Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Hyundai Tucson - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2015 Hyundai Tucson we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Draw-Tite custom fit class three trailer hitch receiver. This offers the 2" by 2" opening. Its part number is 75717. Here's what our hitch is going to look like when we get it installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it's pretty clean looking. Really the only thing you see sticking down is going to be the backside of that receiver tube opening and the receiver tube itself.

You're going to have a small flange right here with three pre-drilled holes. Got one, two, and three. If you want to mount wiring or if you want to mount a 4-pole to it, should have a good tab there that's been welded on to do that with. Our main pinhole is going to be the 5/8 pinhole here a little bit further in. That's going to be for securing our ball mount, bike racks, cargo carriers, whatever it is we plan on using. The one just in front of that is a little smaller diameter.

That's for use in conjunction with the j-pin stabilization system. We've got a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening. That works great with any of the class three bike racks, cargo carriers, things like that that we'd want to put in. As you can see, we've got good room on each side, especially if you don't mount any wiring over here. If we're doing one of the anti-rattle devices or locking hitch pins, we shouldn't have any issue getting that in place. Now as far as towing goes, we're going to have good safety chain connection points on each side to get those secured.

We're going to have a 525 pound tongue weight rating. That's going to be the maximum downward force we can put here at our receiver tube opening. We're going to have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's going to be the total of our trailer and then everything else that we've got loaded up on it. If we go into a weight distribution setup our tongue weight's going to stay the same at 525.

We're going to have a 5,250 pound trailer weight rating at that point. Of course we do want to look into the owners manual of the Tucson to make sure it can handle those loads. If not, we're just going to use whichever of those numbers are the lowest. Now a couple of measurements that you're going to find helpful in selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside top edge of our receiver tube opening we've got about 13-1/4". Then from the center of our hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 4. Now the first thing we're going to do for our installation is just take a safety strap here, just a regular cam buckle strap. We're going to go around the underside of the exhaust. Then we'll cinch that down. Then we'll remove an exhaust hanger located on each side of the muffler here in the middle. We've got one here on the driver side and another one right here on our passenger side. We can use a little bit of spray lubricant just to allow us to slide that off a little bit easier. A lot of times you can just grab it behind it and pull towards you, get it to pop off. Sometimes you'll have to use a little screwdriver or pry bar or something. You can see that's loosened up. We'll just let a little bit of slack onto in our strap, allow that to come down a little bit. Just make it easier to get to our access holes. We're going to have two on each side, one located here and one just behind it. Then we'll have them in the exact same spot over there on the driver side. What we're going to do is spray a little lubricant in there. Then we'll use our nylon tube brush, part number 814092, just to clean those out. We're trying to clear our threads of any undercoating or any dirt that might have been thrown up in there while it's been heading down the road. Do that on both sides. We'll just check to be sure we can thread our bolt up in each of them and then we'll grab our hitch and get it raised into position. Now we can raise our hitch up over our exhaust here. Let's start one of our bolts on each side. Now when doing this, it's a good idea to have an extra set of hands to help you hold up the other side of your hitch. Get that one started about three or four turns. Then we can come to the other side and do this one. Once where those started we'll allow it to rest there when we get our others started. Now we'll just take a quick look to be sure we have our hitch centered. Then we'll snug down our fasteners. Then we can torque them to the specifications we can find in our instructions. Now we can raise our exhaust back into position. We're just going to use a little more spray lubricant. You'll see it will slide in pretty easy. Now we can just pull down our strap. Now with everything back in place and resecured, that's going to complete today's installation of the Draw-Tite custom fit class three trailer hitch receiver, part number 75717, on our 2015 Hyundai Tucson.

2015 Hyundai Tucson SE

The draw tite trailer hitch fit perfectly on my 2015 Hyundai Tucson SE AWD. I had more troubles getting the exhaust lowered than I did putting the hitch in place. Installation took about 40 minutes doing it by myself, but I was also on crutches so moving around wasn't easy. 231243

Hyundai Tucson

"etrailer" Trailer Receiver was perfect fit for Hyundai Tucson. Quick to install. Note: When disconnecting rubber muffler hanger, use a little lubricant on the bracket and the rubber hanger will slide off easily, and back on too. Customer service from "etrailer" was the best and answered all my questions. Hitch receiver looks and works great. "etrailer" has the best products, fastest delivery and great customer support. 267026

This is my second time ordering from etrailer.com and this second time was just like the first. Fast shipping and great customer service. This company goes above and beyond to help their customers. I just got the trailer hitch installed this weekend. Took about 30 minutes as detailed in the directions and the install was very straight forward. I did need a second set of hands to help lift the hitch into place. Once installed and everything put back in place, the clearance was perfect, should not hear any rattling. Will definitely come back for other hitches or lighting kits when they are needed. 272913

Ordered my part by phone and was treated very professionally. The part I ordered was exactly what I needed. It was not too difficult to install but would recommend two people to hold the hitch in place to get it started. (that was the only difficult thing for me as I did it myself) Hooking up the electrical was a little bit more of a challenge due to tight spacing in the light housing area, but was doable. The hitch came 2 days earlier then promised and in great shape. 271220

Easy to install. Second receiver I've purchased from etrailer and if I need another in the future, this is where I will buy it. Packaged perfectly and instructions were in the box. I watched the online install video one last time before I installed it. 133656

Super easy installation. Wobbles around a bit, but that's to be expected. Lost the security pin when I sold my car and now I need a replacement. Hope I can find one. It's almost spring. 238997

Hitch went on quick and easy. No need to drop exhaust. Wiring directions were confusing. Luckily I found a 12-minute video that was great. It saved a lot of time. 267664

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Kia Sportage SX
  • I do have a hitch solution for you, but I checked Draw-Tite and they do not recommend the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch # 75717 as a fit for the 2011 Kia Sportage SX Turbo. For your vehicle you would want a Curt Trailer Hitch # C13120. This hitch is confirmed to fit on the SX Kia Sportage models and should work very well for you. I attached installation instructions for you to check out also. To complete your towing setup you may be interested in the following products: Curt...

  • Parts Needed to Complete a Tow Package on a 2013 Kia Sportage
  • All of the trailer hitches available for your 2013 Kia Sportage will have the same visibility at the rear of the vehicle. You will only see the receiver under the bumper fascia, so visibility will not be an issue. I own a 2013 Kia Sportage and I had the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, part # C13120, installed. I have attached a photo of the Curt hitch installed on my Sportage for you to check out. The hitch has served well and would be an excellent option for your vehicle. The main difference...

  • Is Small Bracket On Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch For Mounting an Electrical Connector, 2011 Kia Sportage
  • Yes, the tab is intended to mount the electrical trailer connector. Your electric trailer connector will mount up to the bracket just as it did on the factory hitch of your 2011 Kia Sportage. There is also another hole that will allow for mounting a smaller sized bracket, the spacing measured 1-3/4 inches on center. • Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2016 Kia Sportage
  • For a Thule bike rack for your 2016 Kia Sportage you have a few options. For a trunk mounted rack the best rack available is the Raceway part # TH9001PRO. What makes this rack far superior to the others is the attachment system. It uses 4 retractable coated steel cables to attach to the vehicle rather than 6 nylon straps like other racks. This makes installation quick and easy and the cables also last longer. The cables store inside the rack so there are no loose straps ends to flap...

  • Will the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 75717 Fit on a 2011 Kia Sportage
  • The Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75717, will fit all models of the 2011 Kia Sportage, except the SX models. As long as you have a Base model, EX or LX model, you will have no problems installing this hitch on your Sportage. If you do have an SX model, you would want to use the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # C13120. I added links to the installation instructions for each of these hitches for you to review prior to purchase. If you will be towing with your Kia Sportage,...

  • How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2010 Hyundai Tucson that has a Class I Trailer Hitch
  • The problem is not just the weight but the distance the weight is from the trailer hitch receiver. Having 4 bikes on the rack would put enough weight far enough away from the hitch to produce excessive torque that the trailer hitch is not designed to handle. This force will damage the hitch and the vehicle. You have a couple of options. You can install a larger capacity hitch like # 75717 and use a 4 bike rack. This will be the more economical choice. I have included a link to the installation...
