Today on our 2012 Jeep Compass, were going to install the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75712. Alright, here are a couple of measurements that will assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch such as the drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 5-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 15-3/4 inches. Now, lets go ahead with the installation. Our first step with our install is going to be removing the tow hook here on the drivers side.
The tow hook will be removed with the three fasteners, two in the frame and one in the bumper, and will not be reinstalled as the hitch is going to take it to place. Now, were ready to move on to the center bumper fascia. The fascia will need to be trimmed to allow for the receiver tube of the hitch. As per the instructions, we need to find the center mark of our fascia. Measuring from outside of the pushpin tab to the outside of the pushpin tab is 14 inches.
We can use that to find the middle. Now, the width of our receiver tube and giving ourselves just a little bit of working room, were going to go 2-3/4 inches. Ill mark the outside edges again with my permanent marker. Next, we need to go ahead and measure the height. Its been my experience that a good starting mark for this application is 3-1/2 inches.
If we need any additional height, we can always go back and cut out some more. Be careful not to cut out too much as it cannot be reinstalled. We can go ahead and draw our lines and then Ill use a Rota zip tool to cut out the plastic fascia. For our fasteners, well be installing a 14-mm bolt that will go from the outside of the frame rail towards the end. Until we get the hitch in place, were going to leave it flushed with the inside of the frame rail then we can push it with the rest of the way through the hitch.
On the forward fastener then, well be securing it with a 5/8 conical toothed washer and nut. On the rear fastener, well secure it with a 5/8 lock washer and nut. Each process we do here on the drivers side will be repeated identically on the passengers side. Heres a quick tech tip. It can be a lot easier to get your hitch in place if you go ahead and lower the exhaust first. Weve got two hangers, one on each side of the muffler to be removed. Well, before I do that I'm going to put a safety strap underneath so that the exhaust cant bolt too far. Alright, now is a good time to get an extra set of hands to help you put the hitch in place. Well go ahead and install the 5/8 nuts on the all four of our frame bolts and now we can go ahead and tighten them down. Now, with all our fasteners tightened down, well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Okay, with all our bolts torqued to specification, we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. And that will complete the install of our Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75712, on our 2012 Jeep Compass.

Received the hitch quickly and the install was easy. I did reinstall in the factory tow hook. The install was easy with the tip of lowering the exhaust. Reinstalling the tow hook was easy after drilling a larger hole for the bolts to fit. People have stated that it looks like it came from the factory after the install.70763

The delivery was on time and the product was delivered in good condition. The instructions on how high to trim the body faschia was confusing to my husband and he didn't trim it up far enough. This caused 30 mins to end up being 3 hrs. I finally convinced him to trim higher and like magic it was installed. End result was excellent! I like the product and would recommend it to others.56131

I had a little trouble installing it in the beginning with manuevering it around the exhaust etc, but once I watched the video on this website on how to install it I saw the technique they used and it was a sinch to get into position on my own. The one thing the instructions fail to say is that if you have the optional tow hook already installed on the Patriot and are looking to reinstall it, you will need to drill the holes on the tow hook larger for the 14mm bolt to fit through.53477

The hitch fit very well - it was a little difficult to install by myself laying in my driveway but I got it in about an hour and 15 minutes instead of the 30 minutes as advertised. However, the quality was excellant and the shipping was also excellant. Everything was as promissed and I would reccomend to a friend. I have not installed the wiring harness yet so I can't comment about that yet, but the hitch was a very good value.26630

Received my new hitch and installed it on my 2011 Jeep Patriot over the weekend. The product itself is great. Solid construction and it appears that it will last forever (or at least as I own the vehicle). The only issue is that the installation instructions omit one very important step. If you have a 2011 with the extended facia, then it is impossible to install the hitch without lowering the exhaust and removing the heat shield. This was not an easy task and the 30 min install took more like 1 hour and 30 min. Once the exhaust and heat shield were out of the way the hitch installed like the directions stated. Very simple and the results turned out great. Sorry - no pics to share.51482
