Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Acura MDX - Draw-Tite

All right, today on this 2012 Acura MDX were going to install part #: 75614 from Draw-Tite. All right, this is what the hitch looks like once its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements thatll help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be 16 and a quarter inches and from the center of the hitch pinhole to the edge of the bumper will be three and three quarter inches. Now Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First thing that we need to do is go ahead and lower the spare tire and get it out of our way.

Then next well go ahead and lower the exhaust by removing the two rearmost rubber hangers. Well spray them down with some lubricant making them a little easier to remove. Now were done with the rubber hangers on the driver side. Now well move over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. Then well go ahead and unbolt the heat shields.

Were finished removing the heat shield on the driver side, now were going to repeat the same process over on the passenger side. Before we put our hitch up well take a moment to clean up the threads. Now since this is a brand new vehicle it shouldnt be much of a problem, but well spray it down with some lubricant and then use a toothbrush to help clean up the threads. Well be using part #: 814092. Now the older the vehicle more time thisll take.

Well clean up the threads and then put the hitch bolt in to make sure it threads in okay. Now, the older a vehicle gets the more dirt and debris gets contained in there and you may have to use a thread tap over time. All right, next we can go ahead and raise the hitch in position. Now, its a good idea to have an extra set of hands to help you do this while you install the hardware. Once all the bolts are installed we can go ahead and tighten them down evenly on both sides and then torque the bolts as specified in the instructions.

Then we can install the heat shields and then the exhaust. Then the spare tire can be reinstalled. And with that, thatll finish it for our install of part #: 75614 from Draw-Tite on our 2012 Acura MDX.

2009 Acura MDX

Draw-Tite Hitch on 2009 MDX I installed this hitch on my wife's 2009 MDX and am very pleased with the resulting look and also the ease of installation. I also used the "Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for the 2009 Acura MDX (eTrailer part number 118424)", and the "Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat (part # 18144)". The installation videos that are on the eTrailer site were immensely helpful; both for installation of the hitch itself, and also the wiring kit. Having a friend to give me a hand holding the hitch up as recommended in the video made a big difference, it would have been a massive pain to try to hold it up and start the bolts by myself. The video showed the installation with MDX up on a car lift. I don't have access to one of those, so I jacked up both sides of the vehicle and put it on jack stands which gave us a lot more room to work underneath. I also altered the installation of the wiring kit from what the video recommended. The video recommended leaving the wiring in the jack storage compartment when not in use, and hanging it out the rear door when needed. I wanted a little more "professional" look than that, so I ran the wires through a rubber grommet (as is shown in the installation video for the 2010 Acura MDX), and permanently mounted them outside and attached it to the hitch using the flat 4 mounting bracket. The draw-tite hitch is designed with an attachment specifically for this bracket, and makes for a very nice look when installed. Am very happy with the result. 3527

2008 Acura MDX

Extremely happy with the product. It looks really clean and neat. I had a friend help and it was really good to have extra pair of hands. I didn't have to raise the car. Did not have any problem during the installation on my 2008 MDX. It really helped to have a wrench with extension set and rotating adapter to maneuver around the space. I only lowered one side of the exhaust and everything worked out. Just followed the video. There are two rubber hooks to remove per exhaust (inside, outside). 43582

Acura

Excellent service. Shipped and arrived as promised. All parts included. Installed in no time. Great value considering Acura wanted nearly 3 times what this cost. I would add that the product had a few scratches and nicks, but not a big deal as it will likely get many more and they are certainly not visible. 135016

Very happy with the draw-tite hitch, the shipping, etrailer website, and the customer service. Here are some (hopefully) helpful tidbits: There are 2 exhaust hangers per side. One on each side is tucked under the bumper near the exhaust tips. I initially missed those. I also found it helpful to remove the hangers that are midway from the engine to the back and set the exhaust on the spare tire. (Don't worry. They are very easy to put back.) Only 1 heat shield needs to be removed. (Either one.) there are 3 bolts. They are 10mm. I found a 3" socket extension worked best. I propped the receiver up with my pelvis while starting a bolt on each side. (A sight I'm sure the neighbors just loved.) The piece fits fine with 1/8" gap on each side. no mallet necessary. The bolts are 17mm. I found a 6" extension worked best. Initially I was disappointed with what looked like poor fitment (front tighter than back.) Rest assured, this corrects itself upon incremental tightening, and the fit turns out to be great. Torque the bolts to 90 ft-lbs. After reinstalling everything, guide the spare tire up above the receiver bars first so it goes all the way up. Guide with one hand while turning with the other. Probably took me 90 mins or so, which I'm very happy with. (I'm slow.) Overall, very happy with the whole process. Went off without a hitch. Ba-dum. Tsssss. 87634

The installation went well and took about 1.5 hours. I did this with help from neighbor and I watched the video. I also had the correct tools, wrenches, extensions, etc. which helped immensely. I would highly recommend your website and products. 16614

Hitch is well made, easy to install, and comes with all hardware. It is not compatible with factory hitch wiring harness. The 7 pin connector bracket is positioned 3" too close to the receiver, and there is not enough whip in the 7 pin connector to reach the mounting bracket. Had to fabricate a spacer to span the gap. 125833

Comments

The welded bracket on the hitch was designed to be used with aftermarket wiring setups and as you found may not work with OEM wiring packages.

video was perfect as far as description. I needed to remove the passenger heat shield and only loosen the drivers heat shield to bolt up the hitch. there's one bolt on each side that's very difficult to reach and tighten. this is my 2nd hitch and my 2nd time purchasing from eTrailer. very happy overall. 258976

The hitch is working as advertised for my '08 MDX. Installation would have been faster if I would have cleaned all the bolt holes prior to trying to screw in the bolts. The bolt holes had rusted so it took quite a bit of effort to secure the bolts. Once I cleaned bolt holes with WD40 they went right in! 42346

Fairly easy installation; had to negotiate getting the spare back in place; however was pleased with the instructions. Took a little longer than expected; however I have a 2010 vehicle, so took a little bit to clean out the holes for the bolts. Bike rack is next! 182949

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Trailer Hitch, Ball Mount, Ball, and Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2007 Acura MDX
  • You are correct that the trailer hitches for a 2007 Acura MDX are all very similar. All of them have a 400 pound tongue weight capacity and 4,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity. All can be used with weight distribution to bring the capacity of the hitch up to 500/5,000 pounds. And all of them install in much the same way with an estimated installation time of 30 minutes. Really, all of the companies make their hitches to meet or exceed the standards of the department of transportation....

  • Fit of Carpod # M2200-01-02 Cargo Carrier on 2012 Acura MDX
  • To determine if the Carpod # M2200-01-02 Cargo Carrier will fit in your 2012 Acura MDX, you'll need to measure the distance between the hitch pin hole and the receiver and the rear-most portion of the back bumper. If this distance is less than 4 inches, the Carpod carrier would work great. When we installed hitches on a 2012 MDX, we found that the Curt # 13354 had 3-1/2 inches of clearance, while the Hidden Hitch # 87474 and the Draw-Tite # 75614 had 3-3/4 inches of clearance. Personally,...

  • Why is the Trailer Hitch from Acura Rated Higher than the Draw-Tite Hitch for a 2008 Acura MDX
  • The Acura hitch may be a higher rated trailer hitch than the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75614. The difference is a result of how the hitch is made, the gauge steel used, and where it attaches on the vehicle. Many times, we rate hitches based on how much the vehicle can tow, but this is not always the case. Based on how we define hitches here, both the Draw-Tite hitch and the Acura hitch would be considered Class III hitches (rated up to 6,000/600 pounds). I have included a link to an FAQ...

  • Recommended Swinging Bike Rack and Class III Hitch for 2013 Acura MDX
  • We do indeed sell trailer hitches! I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III receiver, part # 75614. The hitch is compatible with your MDX, but ONLY if your MDX has the compact-sized spare tire. There is not a hitch available for models equipped with the full-sized spare. If your MDX has the full sized spare, you might want to check with the dealer about the availability of a compact spare. Either the Thule Vertex, part # TH9031XT or the Yakima SwingDaddy # Y02464 would work very well...

  • Will the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75614 Fit on a 2007 Acura MDX with Full Size Spare Tire
  • You are correct, I spoke with my contacts at both Draw-Tite and Curt Manufacturing and the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, item # 75614, and the Curt Trailer Hitch, item # 13354, we have available for the 2007 Acura MDX (see link) will work with your full size spare tire. You will want to lower the spare tire for ease of hitch installation and once the installation is complete the spare will be stowed back in the original position. • Trailer Hitch for 2009 Acura MDX Thats Compatible with Full Sized Spare Tire
  • Of the three hitches we offer for your 2009 Acura MDX, only the Curt # 13354 would be compatible with a full-sized spare tire. The Draw-Tite # 75614 and the Hidden HItch # 87474 and the Reese 44594 that we don't offer are identical hitches, manufactured by the same company. These hitches are compatible with the compact, but not the full sized spare. Because of the unique way the hitch attaches to the inside of the frame members, the hitch can be a tight fit. • The Virginia Chrome Logo Emblem 2 inch Hitch Cover, part # AMG100703 is designed to fit a 2 inch receiver like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, part # 75614 you have on your 2012 Acura MDX. I took a measurement of the hitch cover for you and have attached a photo with the measurement noted. The center of the hitch pin hole on the cover is 2-1/2 inches from the back of the cover. • Yes, the Thule Vertex bike rack # TH9028XT will fit your 2011 Acura MDX. This rack will fit either 1-1/4 or 2 inch trailer hitches. If you need a hitch I recommend # 75614 which is a 2 inch hitch. I have linked videos on the hitch and bike rack for you.
