Today on our 2002 Ford Escape, well be installing a Draw Tite Hitch, part number 75118. This is what our hitch will look like once it is installed. Next well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 5 inches. From the top of the inside of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 14 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier. Now well go ahead with the installation.
First step of our install will be removing the heat shield above the muffler on the passenger side. There are a total of four fasteners thatll need to be removed. Once we remove the four fasteners we can then go ahead and pull the heat shield down and out of the vehicle. Well hang onto the fasteners and the heat shield as it will be reinstalled after we install the hitch. Next well go ahead and point out the attachment points.
There are a total of six attachment points, three on each side. These holes are predrilled into the frame by the manufacturer. Well be using the 7/16th carriage bolt and block, 7/16th conical tooth washer and nut to secure the hitch. Well go ahead and use a pull wire to pull our hardware into position by taking the pull wire going through the attachment point out the end of the frame, well slide on our block feed it into the frame and then thread on the carriage bolt. Well feed the carriage bolt into the frame and then pull them both into position. Once we get our bolt pulled through the frame well go ahead and remove the bolt leader and repeat the same process for the rest of our attachment points. Now with all of our hardware in the frame, were ready to go ahead and install the hitch.
Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. As you put the hitch up into position, be careful not to push your hardware back up into the frame. Once we have the hitch lined up, well go ahead and install the conical tooth washer again with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and the nut to secure it. Well install each one of our fasteners finger tight. Once we have all of our fasteners installed well go ahead and tighten it down. Next well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions.
Now with the hitch tightened and torqued to specifications, we can go ahead and reinstall the heat shield; however well first need to cut out the heat shield to go around the hitch. Following the manufacturers instructions, well use a paint market to indicate the lines and then were going to use a cutoff wheel to cut out the section. Now that we have it cut out, well go ahead and feed it back up over the exhaust around the hitch and into position. Well secure it with three out of the four manufacturers hardware; well use the new bolt and washer provided with the install kit to secure the rear frame attachment point as well need the length of the longer bolt. Now with all of our hardware in place this will complete the install of the Draw Tite Hitch, part number 75118 on our 2002 Ford Escape. .

I ordered the entire installation kit... hitch, receivers and wiring for my 2004 Ford Escape. The hitch installation was a bit on the tricky side only because you have to fish the bolts up through the frame. The Draw-tite hitch mounted perfectly. The installation was very straight forward and took about 45 minutes (one person) and would go faster and be easier with two people....but it can be done solo. It should be noted that bolt leaders are required for installation of the mounting bolts....by them with the kit as it will really save time!! The quality of the hitch is top notch. For the hardware, you may want to screw the nuts onto the bolts once or twice to clean up the threads, as a couple were a little rough for me. Other than that there were no problems or issues. Overall a great Quality item and price...shipping was FAST and FREE...can't get better than that!!!52972

The shipping was very prompt and the product was as described. I also bought the fish wire which saved my life...couldn't have done it without them. Also bought the OEM light kit and that was a breeze to install. One of the bolts/nuts was a bit of a pain, but that will happen. Overall I would recommend this product and etrailer.com45347

This was awesome to install and worked quite well on a 1000mile trip with over 300 pounds of tongue weight on it. I haven't done the light install yet but the trailer hitch went on beautifully, shipping was awesome as well! So quick to get it. I was pleasently surprised.27509
