Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Volvo S60 - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2008 Volvo S60 we're going to be taking a look at and showing how to install the Draw-Tite custom fit class two trailer hitch receiver. This is going to offer the 1-1/4" opening. Its part number is 36297. Now here's what the hitch is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it's pretty straight across, very symmetrical so it's not going to look odd here in the rear of the vehicle. It's a square bar design.

You can see this is going to offer us a 3,500 pound maximum trailer weight rating and a 300 pound tongue weight rating, but you will certainly want to look into the S60's owner manual and see what they rate the vehicle for. You want to go off of whichever of those numbers are going to be the lowest. Our hitch is going to have the 1-1/4" opening that you can see here with the extra collar that goes around. That collar comes in handy for some of the immobilizers and things like that to really sturdy up your equipment. Going to have a standard 1-1/4"-style pinhole here. It's also going to come with the pin and clip so you can slide that through and secure your bike rack, cargo carrier, or whatever else that you'd have in mind.

Now with this being a class two you'll need to 1-1/4"-style accessories. You'll have a full 4-bike capacity as long as you stay within the limits of your hitch and your bike rack. All around a good hitch to have and really come in hand when you need to haul small loads or get some bikes around town, anything like that. Now a couple of important measurements that you'll want to keep in mind. From the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening to the ground we're going to have about 10-1/2" of space. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper we're looking at about 3. Now to begin our installation we're first going to start here on the passenger side on the very back of the frame rail.

There's a little tow bracket right here. This is going to be removed by taking out the bolt that you can see here, and also the one that's tucked right in that little pocket. These are also going to be the mounting holes that we'll use for our hitch. Now we're going to hang onto the hardware and transaction this bracket to the customer in case they want to reinstall it later. Now here on the driver side we're kind of in the same location. It's right here above the exhaust tip.

There's going to be an exhaust hanger there. That's connected using two bolts, one here in the front and one here in the rear. Just like before, we're going to pull these on down and hang onto the hardware. That allows that to come down, as you can see, just enough to where we can get our hitch over top. Now we can raise our hitch into position. We want the ledge or the bracket on our hitch to sit above the exhaust hanger and below the frame. We'll just work that up into place and do the same thing here on the other side. Bring it up to line up our holes and then we can thread our hardware back in. Get three or four good turns on it so it gives you plenty of support. We don't want this thing to come down at us. Here on the driver side we're going to line up our exhaust bracket with the hole that's in our hitch. We'll get that up and start those threads. Now with those started, let's grab our other bolts and we'll start the other two. We're going to have one on each side to do. Now with all four of our fasteners in place we'll come through with our socket and let's just tighten them down to where they make contact with our frame. Now there's no set sequence or anything to tighten your bolts down. Just tighten them down in any fashion you want, but you do want to refer to your instruction manual, and be sure you get them set to the proper talking about specification. With all four fasteners secure, we're ready to hook up and hit the road. That's going to complete today's look at the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver. This is the a class two, part number 36297, on our 2008 Volvo S60. .

The customer services and order follow through were exemplary. I am a frequent "Internet Buyer" and found this to be the highest level of customer service of any of my purchases. The product was as described and the numerous product demo and installation videos that you provide on your site gave me great confidence that I was selecting the product I needed. Thanks again for exceeding my high expectations. 17362

Hitch required some modification for a 2007 Volvo S60 T5 - holes for the bolts were too widely set to bolt directly on. Also, bolts were 15mm, not 17mm as stated in the instructions. My Volvo had a tow point on the passenger side that was not on the diagram. 103771

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Best Way to Carry Bicycles on Rear of a 2004 Volvo XC70 Hitch or Trunk Mount Bike Rack
  • I believe that a hitch mounted bike rack like the Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier, item # TH990XT, and a receiver hitch Like the Draw-Tite Class II Hitch, item # 36297, that you referred to would be the best option for you. This setup will allow access to the rear of the vehicle, the bike rack tilts away from the rear of the vehicle, and will allow for other towing/carrying options in the future if your needs change. I am surprised that you were told that rear mounted...

  • Ground Clearance for Trailer Hitches on a 2001 Volvo V70
  • The brand of hitch has much less to do with the hitch hitting the ground on steep inclines than the vehicle itself. You will be looking at about 11 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver for the Hidden Hitch or Draw-Tite hitches for the 2001 Volvo v70. That would be approximately 9 to 9-1/2 inches from the ground to the bottom of the receiver. I have included a link to a video showing the Draw-Tite Hitch, # 36297, being installed on a 2006 S60. This vehicle and your v70 are...

  • Trunk and Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2002 Volvo V70
  • If you are new to installing trunk mount bike racks it certainly can seem very difficult. It is actually easier on some vehicles than on others. I have a hatch back and use the Thule Raceway # TH9001PRO. Easiest trunk mount rack to install on the planet. With the top hooks, keep the hatch closed. The hooks are coated so they will not damage the vehicle. Sometimes you can insert the hook from the sides rather than just trying to fit them in at their final position. Other times you have...

  • What is the Recommended Ball Mount for Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36297
  • The Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 36297, that you have referenced is a Class II trailer hitch. with a Class II trailer hitch, you will need to use the manufacturer recommended ball mount. According to the installation details linked below, the required ball mount is # 36061, and it should be used in the rise position only. It has a 3-1/8 inch rise and measures 9-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. This ball mount is rated at 3,500 pound gross...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Recommendation for Towing Dirt Bike w/ 2001 Volvo V70 Station Wagon
  • Since you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, I'd recommend you go with the Hidden Hitch Class II hitch, part # 90804. The hitch is identical to the Draw-Tite # 36297, the only difference is that the Hidden Hitch model includes the ball mount and the pin and clip. The hitch does indeed include all necessary installation hardware. In addition to the hitch and ball mount, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like part # 119179KIT and a trailer ball like part # 19257 for a 1-7/8...

  • What is the Distance from the Ground to Top of the Ball on a 2006 Volvo XC70
  • I do have some measurements using Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36297, but not # 90804. However, it will be similar. On a vehicle we installed hitch # 36297 on, the hitch measured 11 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver. Keep in mind this is not the same model vehicle and there are bound to be differences in ride height so these measurements should serve as a general guide. Then, when using the correct ball mount, # 36061, as indicated by the hitch manufacturer in the proper...

  • Trailer Hitch, 4-Bike Rack & Rack Locks for 2007 Volvo V-70 R Wagon
  • Draw-Tite Class II hitch # 36297 is indeed a correct fit for your 2007 Volvo V-70. This and other hitch options for your V-70 wagon can be seen on the linked page. They all fit all models of the V-70. Since you intend to use a hitch-mount bike rack I suggest you instead choose the Curt hitch # C12318 since it has a higher tongue weight (TW) rating of 350-lbs versus the others' 300-lbs. You cannot have too much safety margin. You will need to use a support strap # 18050 to help stabilize...

  • Will a Trailer Hitch for a 1997 Lincoln Town Car Fit a 2005 Volvo XC70
  • I cannot confirm that fit unless I know the manufacturer and model number of the hitch. However it is not looking good because none of the trailer hitches currently available for the 2005 Volvo XC70 also fit any year of the Lincoln Town Car. Also, none of the available trailer hitches for the 1997 Lincoln Town Car fit any year of the Volvo XC70. I have checked Reese, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Curt, and Valley so the rental place must be mistaken. I do not recommend moving forward with...

  • Will Swagman XC Bike Rack Fit Curt 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Volvo V70
  • The Curt trailer hitch # C12318 and Swagman bike rack # S64650 are compatible with each other and your 2005 Volvo V70. But with the Curt hitch, Curt requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for any non-trailer load such as a bike rack. The platform style rack would be difficult to use with the strap. For a hitch that does not require the strap use Draw-Tite hitch # 36297. I have linked a video showing installation on a similar vehicle. The Swagman XC bike rack is a basic...
