This fully welded, corrosion-resistant vehicle trailer hitch receiver is perfect for your light-duty towing needs. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. Drawbar sold separately.
Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Today on our 2014 Ford Focus 5-Door, were going to be installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24872. Now here is what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a cargo carrier or a bicycle rack. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 2 inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 10-3/4 inches. Now lets go ahead and install our hitch. Lets go ahead and begin by pointing out the mounting locations.
Theres a total of six mounting locations, three on each side. Well begin over here on the driver side. Well be using this location here and here, as well as this location right here on the side of the frame. Now over here on the passenger side, it will be a mere image of the driver side. Next were going to need to remove the two bolts from each side that hold the exhaust hanger to the vehicles frame.
We will not be reusing the hardware that secures the exhaust hanger to the frame. Well go ahead and move over to the driver side where well repeat the same process. With our hitch held up into position, well go ahead and mark with a paint marker the area of the heat shield thats covered by the hitch, as were going to need to trim this area out on both sides. Were going to go ahead and cut just a little bit extra on each side to make sure that its not going to touch the hitch. To do that, were just going to use a pair of tin snips. Now that we have our driver side trimmed out, well go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passenger side.
Next lets go over the hardware that were going to use to install our hitch. Now well begin with the hardware used for the hole on each side here on the frame rail. That will be a carriage bolt, square hole spacer block, a conical tooth washer, making sure the teeth faced towards the hitch when installed, and a hex nut. All of these will be up here in the vehicles frame like that. Now to get the carriage bolt and the square hole spacer block into the vehicles frame, well be using this access hole here, as well as the fish wire or a bolt leader to install it. Being that this right here is the access hole, well notice the square hole spacer block fits in there fine, but the carriage bolt doesnt quite fit. Were going to need to take a pile and open up this hole just a little bit to allow the carriage bolt to fit in properly.
To speed things up, were going to be using a round pile on our drill. But just a regular hand pile will work just as well. Well go ahead and repeat that same process over on the other side. Next lets go over the hardware used in each of the two mounting locations on each side that hold the exhaust bracket in place, as well as well secure the hitch to the vehicle. Well be using an 8 millimeter bolt, a 5/16s lock washer, and a 5/16s flat washer. Next were going to go ahead and take the isolator strip. Well go ahead and just cut it in a half. Were going to go ahead and apply it here and here to the hitch. Well peel of the back and then attach it here to our hitch or feet for the other one. Now these strips come with the kit. The reason why you need to put them on here is to help prevent corrosion between the two different types of metals between the exhaust hanger bracket and the hitch itself. Well repeat the same process over on the other side of the hitch. Next were going to go ahead and raise the hitch up into position. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you do this. Well realign each of the exhaust hangers over the holes, and then well install the new hardware into the hole securing the hitch, as well as the exhaust back up into position. Now with the hitch up in place and our four mounting locations installed securing the hitch and the exhaust hangers back up, next were ready to install the hardware into each of the side mounting locations. Next were going to go ahead and take the coil bend of the fish wire or pull wire. Well go through the mounting location here on the side.Itll then come out the access hole. Well then install the square hole spacer block, followed by threading the carriage bolt on. Well then put the spacer block up into the frame, followed by the carriage bolt. Well then pull them up into position. When you remove the pull wire or fish wire, you want to make sure that the bolt does not fall back down into the vehicles frame. With the carriage bolt hold up into position, we can install the conical tooth washer and the hex nut. Well go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passenger side. Now that we have all of our hardware loosely installed, well go ahead and make sure that the hitch looks good, that its centered up in where we want it before we tighten it down. Now with our hitch in position, we can go ahead and tighten down all the hardware. Then well come back and torque it to the manufacturers specification. That will do it for the installation of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24872, on our 2014 Ford Focus 5-Door. .

Shipping container had a hole where hitch receiver broke through, but no mechanical damage to product. Shipping tape residue on hitch, had to remove with lighter fluid. Some paint imperfections, so I touched up the product with black gloss rustoleum since its being installed under the vehicle. Installation instructions were outstanding. All installation materials were provided. The product fit my Ford Focus Hatchback perfectly, all the dimensions were correct. In summary, a great hitch if sloppily packaged. Recommend. 85640

As expected, the hitch is top quality. Installatio is a bit more involved on a 2013 Focus hatchback. First, I did not cut the heat shield away, it would have left it hanging loose. Second, the bolts do not fit through the frame slots without grinding a flat on them. Third, the lighting kit requires 12 volts to work. Routing a wire to the battery is a big pain. There is a rear fuse box which has unused 12 volt fuse positions. A fuse pigtail is the answer and should be provided with the kit. 58026

the hitch is really nice. it came when tracking said it would and works great. i am really happy with it. it's on my 2014 ford focus. no drilling, just a little work with my file and it installed quite easily. thanks! 141528
Just as advertised, installed easily by one person laying on my garage floor. Hand file, 2 sockets, tin snips, no holes to drill. 2nd hitch I've purchased here with no problems and good installation instructions (2014 Focus hatchback). I'd say this installation could be done by any novice, your teenager could put this one on for you, takes maybe 1hr alone. You could say it went on without a hitch...yeah I went there all by myself, don't tell my wife. 193456

Very fast shipment. The hitch was very easy to install. I'm 87 years old and I installed it without any assistance. The picture shows my 2014 Ford Focus with a TRILIFT T1020LT: Ultra- Lite, scooter lift, and a PRIDE Go-Go Ultra X 3-Wheel Scooter Model # SC40X,on the lift.Total weight on the hitch is 149 lbs. 192274

I finally finished my winter project on my Goldwing and completed the hitch install on our Ford Focus. This week I was able to load the Wing onto my new ACE trailer and take it for a small initial run to verify how it holds the bike and road. You'll be glad to hear that it works great. I'm quite happy with my decision to purchase the folding trailer. When I parked at a shopping center during the test run, a guy came over and wanted to know where I got that cool trailer. I gave him your web site and high praise. He said he's been looking for a small trailer to pull his bike. So, I included a photo of my Wing on the trailer connected to the car ready for the test run. 130039

Excellent fit where it attached to the car. I had a shop modify the regular Focus Hatchback hitch for my Focus ST. Customer service and communication from eTrailer is the BEST I have ever seen. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. 103478

Hitch arrived in 3 days, box had 67 cardboard staples in the top, bottom and sides, a bit over done. The hitch was installed on 2014 Ford Focus sedan. It took this 68 year old guy laying on by garage floor about 2 hours, by following your video directions and comments from other buyers. I ground down one edge of the bolts that must be fished through holesin the side of the frame rail. The holes in hitch could have matched better with the holes in the car frame where the bolt must be fished through. I am happy with this hitch, the second I have purchased from etrailer, the bike rack I purchased from you last year fits this hitch very snuggly which is great. Hitch looks good on the car, not real visible, not cutting of the car bumper fasia required. 198889

Very impressed with how the Draw-Tite hitch fit to my Ford Focus. I watched the installation video and installed the hitch in my driveway in about 1 hour. The tolerances in the hitch matched the holes in my frame perfectly. 212035

The hitch bolted up to my 2014 Ford Focus SE sedan with little problems. All the holes lined up as they should. The carriage bolts that attach through the car frame needed to be ground on the side of the head to get the bolt to fit into the elongated hole on the frame...I did not want to modify the car frame for the bolt to fit. I also had a problem with one of the four bolts that hold the exhaust hanger and hitch the car. Upon tightening the hardware to torque specifications, I broke a bolt. I do not feel that the blame should be put on the hitch manufacturer of etrailer. All in all it was a good experience and awesome customer service. I do and will recommend etrailer to others and will be using this website for future purchases. 136415
Product arrived promptly without issues. Local mechanic was able to install the hitch in under an hour, installation costing me $50. Note that, for owners of 2013 Ford Focus SE sedan, some of the mounting holes had to be widened, so it could be a pain for do-it-yourselfers. With the good prices at eTrailer and a reasonable installation from my local mechanic, I got a trailer hitch for about the same price as it would have cost to have UHaul do the whole thing. That said, I am happy that I ordered from etrailer and was able to give the work to a local business. The hitch itself is solid. It's a good product. 185089

Everything fit, fairly easy bolt on install for 2012 Focus hatchback. Like other reviewers, I did have to grind off a portion of two bolt heads to get it into the frame's access hole. Once I did that, fishing it through was way easier than I expected. Hand file or grinder will work. Snug up the bottom four bolts first and then fish through the side bolts. Then go back and torque everything to spec. I didn't cut away the heat shield, b/c I'm lazy. I figure since the muffler mount is bolted on top of it, it wouldn't hurt to bolt the hitch on top of it. Seems pretty solid, but it is just day one. 162533
Normally I do not take the time to write a review on a product, but I was so pleased with the customer service and the direction video that its just the right thing to do. I have a 2013 focus hatchback the installation process took around an hour and a half. The carriage bolt head was too big for the hole so I grounded it down no problem. Other reviews said the same thing so it seemed pretty normal. Other than that the whole process was smooth. Fishing wire was not that bad if you have two people. 100036
This installed relatively easily and works great on my 2012 Ford Focus Titanium. However I encountered a significant issue when it came time to thread the bolt through the car frame; the bolt head was too big to fit through the frame! I can't believe the company made this oversight. I had to borrow a grinder and grind down the edges of the bolts in order to fit it through. It was an easy solution, but not convenient since I don't own a grinder and it shouldn't have been an issue in the first place!! 81981

I don't normally do reviews in general. I however would like to thank etrailer and the staff. I found the product to exactly what was represented. I also found the installation instructions to be right on the money. Great job guys and gals at etrailer. I can't wait to start pulling things with my little ford focus. ie "small boat and 4x8 trailer. p.s. the fitment of the product was perfect including the wiring for the trailer lighting. !!!!! thank you Etrailer.com Dave G. 122179
Great product! I received the hitch and followed the online instructions and completed the installation in less than an hour. Everything fit perfectly. The only very minor problem is that the instructions show the upper bolts being pulled through the end of the frame with the guide wire, but the 2013 Focus has closed end caps on the frame. I had to improvise and pull the bolts through another hole-but it worked. I wish everything you get fit this perfectly! 189269

The trailer hitch for my 2014 Ford Focus, the Draw-Tite Sportframe, came quickly. The product bolted on easily after filing the access hole to fish the bolt through. It took about 30 minutes to install. The instructions and online videos made the entire job easier. Etrailer.com offers great support through online videos and instructions. I couldn't be happier about my purchase. 161164

The hitch installed with no problems on my 2012 Ford Focus. Everything lined up and all of the required parts were included. The customer service from etrailer.com was excellent. 34263
Perfect small car hitch to tow an auxiliary waste water tank to the dump station on campgrounds, eliminating the need to unhook RV each time. This one is on a 2013 Ford Focus SE. 268369

Fits my 2012 Focus SEL Sedan very well. Installed in 30 min. Good part for the $$. Tip worth noting: Be mindful of whatever pin size your bike rack (or whatever you're toting) uses. I don't have exact dimensions on hand, but if a larger-diameter pin is required you may need to drill out the larger slot on the hitch. 208850
I watched the vid on the install of the hitch. Everything you need to install the hitch is there. You should tell what size wrench you need and I had to do some grinding to get the head of the bolts into the frame of my 2012 Ford Focus as the slots were to small. The hitch looks great. Can,t wait to really try it out. 178286
by: LeRoy K.05/04/2014
This install was so darn simple. Instructions give a 40 minute install time and I didn't believe it. But it's true. Pretty much on the 2014 Ford Focus it's a simple bolt on. Quick trim of very light heat shield and a little filing of the oblong hole so the carriage bolt fits through. Highly recommended. 128842
Installed on my son's new 2012 Focus Hatchback. The bolts that install with the fish wire were tough. We ended up loosening the hitch bolts that install with the exhaust hanger to lower the hitch a little - then they slipped into the access hole and lined up. Looks good after that! 21153

Super easy install on my 2012 Ford Focus. Took just one hour. I backed the car up on some ramps to aid the installation. Everything fit right into place just like the video. I highly recommend etrailer.com for the products and the instructional videos and support. 125597

Awesome hitch! Went in without any hassles and took about 40 minutes. great instructions and it looks great on my new Ford Focus. THe only comment i have is I didn't cut away the heat shield and the installation went fine without having to do that. 24741
by: Gary G. Bullion04/03/2015
The Etrailer Hitch, went on and fit very well. Very pleased with the Hitch. Rather then file down the open hole area, on my Ford Focus. We grown down the bolt head down a bit. And that made it slide in much easier. 182897

I bought this hitch for my 2012 Ford focus so I could attach a bicycle carrier. It was pretty easy to install with the help of my brother. After a year it still works great and I use it every weekend. 267748
by: Sean N.08/09/2013
Great service, quick delivery! It was very easy to install having never (ever) looked underneath my car before. The only trick was wiggling the bolts through the hole with the pull wire, and having to borrow a torque wrench. I'm so excited by how good it looks. Vacation with bikes here I come! 94166

!!Warning!! The hitch receiver will not take a Yakima bike rack or anything that is too long for the receiver! My one Glaring gripe with this hitch is the back stop inside the hitch receiver. It will NOT take my Yakima hitch because the male hitch portion is to long and hits the back stop so NOW I have to figure out a way to take the back stop out. I wish I'd seen something on this before purchasing. I would have purchased a different hitch or gotten something else completely. A real disappointment after I got it installed and tried to attach the bike rack to go for a ride. :-( Otherwise Installed relatively easily, watch the install video if you need help it goes over everything. Definitely recommend a second set of hands when lifting into place and setting the bolts into place. I used a Dremel to send off the edge of the to upper mounting bolts so I wasn't sanding off parts of my undercarriage making it more susceptible to rust to get them to fit into the holes worked like a charm. 187957

This trailer hitch was very easy to install, the video on the website was really good. I installed it while it was snowing! :) One thing I would like to mention is the fishing of the bolt and and the nut with a square hole inside the frame can be tricky. The bolt didn't fit through the hole in the frame and I had to pop it through with a screw driver and hammer BEFORE I bolted the hitch on. I also reverse fished a wire through the frame and then attached the wire to the supplied threaded fish wire and pulled the threaded fish wire back back through. - Hope this helps - Great hitch!!!!! 62643

Product was great, installation was a little tricky for one part but was due to my inexperience. It was pretty easy once I figured out how to use the fishing wire properly. Unfortunately I missed the video Fish Wire Demonstration on the bottom which would have helped me tremendously. Definitely watch it! Also, bolt head was a tiny bit big for hole so had to bang on it lightly with a hammer to get it thru beginning hole, no big deal though. Again, I've never done anything like this so didn't know how to use the fishing wire properly and instructions didn't say as they just assume you know. Once I figured that part out it was easy. Hope this info helps someone. Don't be afraid to tackle this on your own - it's not hard. 21923
Followed instructions to the "T" and it was a piece of cake. Video by etrailer was also very helpful. It took me about 1 hour in my garage, including tool search, set up, and bolting everything together. I didn't use a jack nor jack stands. I had my teenage son help me hold it in place. I had to file down a little bit on the large holes on the undercarriage and fish the carriage bolt through. The driver side fished through without any problems. The passenger side was a little more stubborn and it took a couple of tries to fish the bolt through. Installed on Saturday, 05/28/2016, 2013 Ford Focus SE, will be used to haul our bicycle rack. 252713
Order my product, received my product as I was told, product was what I order and worked perfect...Easy install and allows me to pull my small trailer with a riding mower between my properties using my 2015 Ford Focus 263410

Shipping was extremely fast. I debated paying someone to install it for me and then decided to ask a friend to help instead. When the friend was busy the day we were supposed to work on it, I decided to try installing it myself. The video was very helpful. I used a set of jack stands as my "extra hands" to hold the hitch in place while I screwed in the bolts. It took me less than an hour to install. As some of the other reviewers did, I also skipped the trimming of the heat shield. I didn't quite understand why this was needed in the first place. Hopefully I don't regret it down the road. 229312

The hitch came super fast and I installed it today. Install time says about 45 minutes. That's about what it took me. Nice fit but I had to ground off a little of the carriage bolt. No fault of the hitch. The hole in the frame was not large enough. The wiring took my about 3½ hours, start to finish. I ran the wire inside the car and had trouble finding a place to exit the firewall so I exited the floor under the clutch, through a grommet and up the firewall to the battery. Works and tows real nice. When the time comes to get another hitch and wiring, I will get it from e-trailer. 58618
Driver side access hole on hitch did line up with auto hole. Left hitch down about 1/4 inch to install fished bolt. Then tightened all bolts. Passenger side access hole in auto to small for bolt head. Ground down bolt head slightly and went in. Don't know why the instructions say to trim heat shield. Didn't want to cut on my new wheels. Installed with out cutting shield fine. Tip on fish wire, have used them many times. Insert at small hole and pull out large hole then attach hardware. Over all went together in less then an hour and looks good 24134
Product seems well made, but found a few paint scratches on product out of the box. Painted those with cold galvanizing paint to limit rusting. These areas were not in an area that shows. Fits well, seems to be sturdy. Installation was pretty easy. Only one hiccough- carriage bolts would not go thru frame opening without 1/16" being filed off one side of bolt heads. Corrosion concern with ordinary cadmium plated washers against aluminum muffler bracket. (Original bolts and washers were aluminized steel.) Would recommend this product for any DIYer. 107889

Nothing but great as for a review for the team at etrailer. There was a slight problem with the delivery, but it was quickly resolved by their team and I had everything delivered far sooner than I had expected. The installation was a snap and I was impressed with the system they provided to fish the bolts thru the frame. My first thought was "yea, sure" when I saw what was in the package, "this ain't going to work". I was wrong, it worked like a charm. I have designed tooling for the Air force. and this deserves an award for it's simplicity. 239066

For some reason there is a stopper inside the hitch and it prevented me from using the Reese hitch I bought at Lowes because it would not allow the hoes to line up. I had to drill this tab out that was located under the weight rating sticker. I am guessing it was there to make you order their brand hitch that is more shallow but whatever the reason it was not that hard to drill out. Overall it was fairly easy to put on. You have to grind one bolt flat to fit it through the frame but that was easy enough. 177749
by: Len G.10/25/2012
Pretty straight forward install. As others have stated, be sure to grind the carriage bolts on two sides to fit through the feed hole. Otherwise, they won't go. I found it easier to push the carriage bolt "backward" first- away from the intended position, then pull it with the fish wire. Kind of difficult to hold the tow bar up while making the bolts, try to get a helper for this. Very good fit, no drilling or cutting needed. Looks pretty solid to me. Enjoy 58140
This is a great hitch that was delivered quickly with all the parts and good instructions. It's a little tricky fishing the carriage bolts into the frame for one of the connections on each side, but it comes with the fishing wire and just takes a little patience. I probably won't bother to add the electric since I just use the hitch for my bike rack and cargo carrier. So easy enough for non-mechanical homeowner to install without need to lift the car. 103037
I recently installed the Draw-Tite hitch and I am very pleased with this product. First, I was very pleased with etrailer's customer service. I found it very professional and they expedited my shipment without me asking or charging for it. The installation pretty much went as instructed. I did have to use a file on the opening where the carriage bolt goes into in order to pull it through with the fish wire. 70173
Make sure to watch the YouTube video for installation instructions!! The clip makes the process very clear. Using this for a bike rack. Awesome to have a little extra carrying capacity on my hatchback. 264547
by: Jaime ch.07/06/2016
The product is just as described . I have one suggestion though. I installed the unit by myself using jacks . You are going to have to make the whole slightly bigger like instructed but after that I would insert the side bolts first and use them to support the hitch before bolting on the last four bolts which replaced the factory ones. Other then that a great product!!! 268733
by: Glenn L.08/20/2014
Good product, but the video installation make it look easier than the installation really is, and seems be missing some important details. The written instructions seem to be the same, "kinda vague", and not written and diagramed all that well, Although eventually you can figure it out. All in all it appears to be a quality hitch, and should fulfill your needs. 147804
by: Mike S07/25/2014
Delivery was quick and the mechanic who did the install says it installed easily - direct bolt on as described. He was the one who suggested I go online to get the hitch because I could get one for a better price than his supplier. I think I saved about $100. The website was easy to negotiate and get what I was looking for. Good all-around experience. 142840
by: Mike M07/03/2016
Mounting wasn't the easiest. Once on it worked great. 3000 mile trip later and I'm happy. I will also use it to pull my kayak trailer. 267873
Easy install overall. I had to grind the heads of the carriage bolts down to make them pass thru the opening of the frame. Also had to grind (or you can cut with a bandsaw or hacksaw) the piece the carriage bolt passes thru to get it to pass into the frame. Would be nice if these pieces came pre-ground/pre-cut to the right size. 179234
Installation was straight forward with very clear directions, although torque specs for the 4 mounting bolts would have been helpful. Installed sol in approximately 49 minutes in my driveway using hand tools but I would recommend a helper as there are multiple plates to line up as your supporting the exhaust and the hitch 183140
Big thumbs up for etrailer.com. My Draw-Tite 24872 hitch arrived just two days after the order was placed and was packed well. I ran into the typical install difficulties others experienced with this particular hitch, but a little patience and I got it installed just fine. I won’t hesitate to purchase from them again. 125515
