This fully welded, corrosion-resistant vehicle trailer hitch receiver is perfect for your light-duty towing needs. Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. Drawbar sold separately.
Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Today on our 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, we'll be be installing a Draw Tite hitch, part number 24866. Now, here's what our hitch looks like installed on a vehicle. Now, we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch such as a bicycle rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pan hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 4 inches, and from the ground to the top of the opening in the receiver is approximately 10-3/4 inches. Now, let's go ahead and install our hitch and we've already gone ahead and removed all the contents of the trunk, the trunk covering, as well as the spare tire cover, as well as the spare tire itself. Now, we're going to go ahead and go underneath the vehicle as we'll need to remove a piece of plastic fascia from underneath the passenger side of the vehicle. To do this, we'll go ahead and remove two torques head screws, as well as two plastic hex nuts.
We will not be reputting this piece of plastic fascia back up. You may, however, want to keep these, as well as that hardware, in case if you ever decide to remove your hitch, you'll need to put this back up. Now, we'll need to go ahead and lower the exhaust down out of the way. Before we begin, we'll need to go ahead and put a safety strap on the exhaust to make sure it's supported once we remove the rubber isolator as well as two bolts that hold the rear bracket near the muffler. Now that our safety strap is in place, we'll go ahead and remove two bolts at the rear bracket just above the muffler. Now we'll go ahead and move up just in front of the rear axle area and we need to remove a rubber isolator here. To do this we use a little spray lubricant and, in this case, we use an exhaust removal tool, but a large pry bar will work just as well. Now that we've got the exhaust bracket down, we need to bend these two tabs straight.
Now, because this particular vehicle has a fuel vapor canister on the passenger side, we'll need to take the three bolts out and hold it in place and let it lower down out of the way until we put the hitch up. Once the hitch is up we will reinstall these, so don't lose any of the hardware. Next, let's go ahead and point out the hardware that will be used on the hitch and on the location on the hitch that the hardware will be used. On the long bar that will actually go through a hole in the trunk pan, we'll be using a carriage bolt, a spacer block, a conical tooth washer, as well as a hex nut. Now, for the two rear holes on the driver's side of the hitch, we'll be using an M8 hex bolt as well as a 3/8 conical tooth washer on each one. For the passenger side, there are two locations that hitch them onto the vehicle.
The rearmost location which will actually come out side of the frame rail will have a carriage bolt as well as a spacer block that is fish wired into the frame and there will also be a spacer block that is slid on over the top of this bolt, followed by a conical tooth washer and hex nut. Now for the forward-most mounting location on the passenger side, we will be using an M12 handle nut as well as an M12 hex bolt and 1/2 inch conical tooth washer. Now, let's go ahead and point out the locations on the vehicle where this hardware will be installed. For the trunk mounting location on the driver's side, we'll actually need to go ahead and cut out the grommet that is already in place here. To do this we'll just use a razor knife. With this removed, we need to go ahead and make sure before we put the hitch up we install some of the Loctite silicone gasket sealer.
This sealer is available at E-Trailer, part number LT37467. You want to make sure that you put some of this gasket sealer on both the inside and outside of the trunk pan to make sure you seal off any water or exhaust gases that may enter the trunk area. Now for the passenger side, we'll go ahead and use the fish wire, and we'll fish wire the 7/16 carriage bolt as well as the spacer block into place. Make sure you leave the fish wire on for now. Next, we'll go head and tape the external spacer block into place. This will just help keep it in place for now until we put the hitch up. Now, for the final location, we'll need to measure out on the handle nut where we need to bend the tab at. To do this we'll hold the handle nut up to the mounting location, which is the center hole in this case, to where our access slot is. Where the access slot hole is, is where we need to put a 90 degree bend in the handle nut. Now with some of the mounting hardware in place, we're ready to go ahead and put our hitch up and put the rest of the hardware on. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you do this. We begin by feeding the fish wire through the side hole on the passenger side of the hitch and as we're raising it up, we also need to go ahead and put up where the exhaust rear bracket is, we'll need to twist that around so that the hitch goes against the frame and the exhaust bracket goes over the top of the hitch. As you raise up the passenger side as well as the driver's side, you'll need to pull the fish wire through so it pulls the carriage bolt out of the frame, through the spacer block that's taped to the outside of the frame and through the hitch. With this in place, we'll go ahead and go over to the driver's side where we'll install two M8 hex bolts with the 3/8 conical tooth washers making sure that the teeth face the hitch. You may need to move the hitch around a little bit to get these two holes to line up. Also, make sure that you put the exhaust bracket back up in line so that you go through the exhaust bracket, through the hitch, and into the weld nuts that are part of the frame. You are using the same weld nuts that you took the brackets down from earlier. Now we can go back over to the passenger side, we'll go ahead and put the bolt as well as the conical tooth washer that goes into the handle nut. With this in, we can go ahead and take the fish wire off and put the conical tooth washer and the hex nut on this bolt as well. Now we're ready to go ahead and take the carriage bolt and the spacer block, after the silicone gasket sealer is on, and drop it down through the trunk pan, through the hitch, followed by putting a conical tooth washer as well as a hex nut on from the underside. Now that all the hardware is in place we'll go ahead and tighten things down and then torque them to the manufacturers specification. With all the hardware torqued, now we can go ahead and put the fuel vapor canister back up in place with the three bolts we removed earlier. Finally we can go ahead and put the rubber isolator on the exhaust that we removed and then go ahead and take the safety strap off, and with that that will conclude our installation of our Draw Tite hitch, part number 24866 on our 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. .

This is the second hitch I've bought from eTrailer, one for my wife's CRV and this one for my Jetta Sportwagon. No surprises, just a quality hitch delivered promptly by eTrailer. Installation process went just like the video explained. Thanks for the great service. 77750

Finish Quality: The finish of the part that shows was very good. The parts that you only see if you install this hitch yourself were not so good. There were chips on some of the corners where bare metal was showing. I was disappointed, but didn't want to hassle with sending it back, so I ended up repainting most of the hitch. Design Quality: I had a lot of trouble getting the 2 bolts on the muffler side started. I had started the bolts on the other side because fishing the bolts through seemed the harder task. Even with that side loosely bolted, it took a while to get enough alignment to start the bolts on the other side. I wonder if the dimensions were off just enough. Also it looks a tad crooked compared to the bottom of the bumper. Not awful, but enough that you notice if you look closely. Direction Quality: With the exception of suggesting starting the muffler side bolts first, the instructions were fine. 24248

So far so good, although the hitch arrived poking through the box and with some small scratches on the ball mount. Not etrailer's fault. Installation took longer than advertised, some of it my fault because I fed the block into the frame the wrong way...the block apparently has to go in oval hole first. The bolt would not protrude straight from the frame with the block inserted the other way. I had to back the bolt and block out of the hole in the frame (which must have taken 20 minutes) and re-insert. The video does show the correct orientation. After that, it went pretty smoothly, and the hitch looks great! The installation video was VERY helpful, way more information than the single-sheet installation instructions. We will mainly use this to mount a bike rack. 139538

The Drawtite hitch mounted up fairly easy and I'm a mechanical engineer/ mechanic. Paper instructions were almost worthless, had to refer to the video. Raised the car high on the rear axel and lowered the car onto 5 gal pails to position the hitch to bolt in place. I would be easier with a helper to hold the hitch in position. After the installation I felt that the hitch could have been designed better to be under the car more and exposed less. The hitch was loose and breaking through the box when I received it. Some paint was chipped off in a few places. Finally, the hitch serves its purpose. It is a rock solid design and it is mounted rock solid it will pull my motorcycle trailer and support my 4 bike rack easily with my Tdi VW. 86115
I received my hitch from ETrailer in very good time. Their order support and shipping was great. They have a great selection, pictures and even installation instructions. Some of the hitches even have good videos showing how to install. The Drawtite hitch I bought had really marginal instructions. One page, small font and poor diagrams. I looked at the other hitch brand instructions and figured I could still do the job. I had a friend and we worked for five hours to complete the job. The first issue was getting the bolts on the pull string to line up inside the frame. Then getting the bolts to line up in the muffler hanger holes was a huge hassle. I have not tried it out yet, but am looking forward to it soon. 41764

Once mounted, this seems to be a very solid unit. It is well built out of heavy stock. The time estimate of 1 hour for install was quite a bit less than what it took for me to get the hitch mounted up. Watching the install video helped although it is for a slightly different model and the instruction sheet was not all that clear on the first few readings (it made sense once I was done). My hitch took close to 3 hours for the complete installation. The two bolt holes on exhaust hanger bracket needed to be enlarged in order to align with existing mount on the car and longer bolts were needed to initially draw that side up to a point where the bolts included with the hitch would thread into existing holes. 39225

Installation was pretty much like the video on the web site. I did it alone, and if you can it would help to have an extra set of hand as the video states. The splash panel on the passenger side that was removed and not replaced in the video, I did replace after trimming a bit off the back. It is plastic so it was quite easy to cut, I think it is worth replacing. Now, I hope there is an instruction video for the wiring as good... 168905

The part went on with out a hitch.... Oops it was a hitch. Anyway I did not have any major problems. The two bolt holes for the mount at the exhaust hanger were a bit off, a little larger hole would have helped. I couldn't figure why it was recommended to leave off that plastic panel on the bottom right rear after the hitch was installed. The other brand of hitches suggested cutting out a chunk to fit around the hitch. I ended up cutting a slot about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long and it slipped right back in position and to me looks a lot better than the empty hole. The hitch works nice with my Thule Bike Rack. 85625

Received hitch and wiring kit in a timely fashion. Could not find a video on 2013Jetta to assist. Used another year and got way off track. Finally used enclosed paperwork and got the hitch installed. Now I've done it and got it figured out with very little help from instructive video or paperwork I'm sure a second unit would be easier. The wiring went somewhat okay. There was no method to secure the black lighting module and was asked to go to Wal Mart and try to find some two sided fabric when I called your Co. Which they didn't have. I ended up using some very thin two sided tape and trippling up on it. 71969
This is a review on the installation only. Have yet to drive test with a bike rack. As far as installation went - smoothly. I used a YouTube video to install which was much better than the instructions. Seeing is much easier than reading. As can be seen by my included photo - the hitch is very hidden and blends in well with my car. 36007

The written instructions were garbage. Simply put, too much information on an 8x11 sheet of paper with a crappy diagram to follow. After watching the video about a dozen times, it started to make sense. Package arrived with a huge hole in the box. About half way through the installation, I realized I was missing a nut (didn't come with original hardware). After all of that, the hitch works great. Carries a 4 bike rack with no problems. Tows my small utility trailer with ease. 153394

Package was received very quickly. Installation on vehicle was done today, Wednesday. There were 3 issues with the product: 1) The package had one instruction sheet Spanish only (I went back to your website to print out the English one) 2) Wrong sized nut (too small) provided for 7/16. Had to purchase the correct size. 3) Welding slag remnant in receiver preventing use of the hitch. The slag had to be removed. Other than that, installation went smoothly. 168981

Main purpose of hitch is for a bike rack, and does this well. I Also have a 4'X6' utility trailer which has been towed by many small cars. Fortunately, my trailer needs are over, because VW forbids towing with the Jetta TDI having automatic transmission. Jetta TDI owners should be made aware of this when ordering a hitch. Owner-installation was not difficult, but directions need to be more specific about location of bolts on passenger side . 68446

The product was very good and fit with just a bit of coaxing. I found the instructions quite lacking however and the Youtube video I watched was not accurate for my car. I would have watched the video provided on this site but it wouldn't load on my computer. This made the installation somewhat more difficult than it should have been. Clearer instructions with better photos would have made this product excellent and not just very good. 51910

Great product! Not sure just how to install in 1 hour unless you have access to a hoist! The directions were a little shaky - but the install video from etrailer saved the day. The only real question was the positioning of the spacer on the frame side of the hitch. Wiring harness no issue - again, watch the video a few times to familiarize yourself with the procedure. Thanks, etrailer.com! 100179

Here's a picture of my new trailer hitch from etrailer.com on my VW Jetta, it was awful to install , but after 3 1/2 hours my cousin and I figured out what the instructions were attempting to mean 27516

Installed this on 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. Installation was well documented (read the instructions). I did the prep of the parts and setup for the install (matching parts, fishing bolt, detaching exhaust) in about 45 minutes. Actual install, with a helper, took about 20 minutes. Unit seems well built and expect it to perform well. Reduces rear clearence about as little as possible. 16311

The printed directions were horrible. Come on Draw-Tite, spend an extra nickle and get better print quality. BUT! etrailer more than compensated for the lack of directions with their great video. Communications about my order, etc. was beyond perfect. They initially said 7 days and it got here in 2. Perfect score from this first time customer. I'll be back! 64748

I felt the directions and the pictures used for representation were insufficient. My call for service was useless. The person I talked to couldn't help me and was told a technician would contact me. I worked it out myself and the tech called me an hour after I finished the job. I've installed two trailer hitches from etrailer previously and have had no problems. 22353

Happy with the end result, but install was a bit more difficult than the video makes it out to be (the bolt/spacer that needs to be fed thru the frame). 97722

Be sure to watch video of Jetta installation, before and during your installation. Directions alone are confusing. I bought longer bolts to snug in the hitch where the exhaust bracket is just to get it close enough to use the supplied bolts. Wiring from battery back also time consuming because most of Jetta SW underneath is covered. 15631

My hitch fit perfectly right out of the box. Instructions could have been a bit more clear, but it still went well and was finished in about an hour and a half max. It looks good and functions excellent. I am a repeat customer. This is a good company and I feel satisfied with this purchase. Ill be back again too. 263027
The product itself seems excellent. However, I'm unable to install one of the 5 bolts. The original bolts securing the muffler was tapered to help align it. These two replacement bolts(necessarily longer) are not tapered. I guess I'll need to visit a mechanic for this last operation. 67033

Amazing! I thought it was gonna be kinda difficult but actually very easy. I found an install video on YouTube and that help out so much because the directions seemed very vague. After watching the video it explained it all! Great product. Make sure you order the wiring harness. 25489
Works fantastic. Installation did not took longer than expected. Like other have said WATCH THE VIDEO FIRST! But installation is very simple and etrailer sends you everything you need except sealant. Overall, very pleased and would order again if I ever needed another hitch. 26427

Fairly easy install. With the video tutorial provided on this page, it wasn't to bad. Install took 1.5 hours, I'm sure it could have been faster, but just played the video step by step to do it right the first time. Would totally recommend this hitch for Jetta operators. 217750
This is the second hitch I've purchased from etrailer among a couple other purchases (harnesses, balls, etc.) I don't even shop around any more...I'm confident they've got the best price, best service and quickest shipping out there. Look no further...buy it here. 64038
The install was not as simple as described I was glad I went to a professional to get it installed Etrailer was great to deal with the hitch arrived on time with great emails from etrailer Wonderful buying experience 21985
Product arrived in great time. Free shipping. Box arrived with slight damaged. No damaged to product. Part of hitch was outside box. Hopefully I can install it without a hitch! Get it?! Thanks. 65951

Great service, fast delivery! We are very happy with the hitch receiver!Took us some time to mount it though. The video was very, very helpful and we would have been lost without it! Great product!! 94647
The trailer hitch met all my requirements. Dealership told me that there wasn't a hitch option for my Jetta Sportwagen... So I went to etrailer. Install wasn't too bad either. Maybe a few hours. 240449

I have ordered 5 trailer hitches from Etrailer.com and been pleased with there process and merchandise, I haven't opened the one I received today for my Jetta 27269
Watch the video. It makes installation so much easier than looking at the directions. Otherwise the installation is fairly simple. 49666
