Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Honda CR-V

Today on this 2009 Honda CR-V we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 24792. This installation will also apply for Hidden Hitch part number 60869. We are underneath the vehicle and before we get started pointing out the mounting holes for the trailer hitch we want to lower the exhaust off the passenger side frame rail. There are two hangers that we need to lower the exhaust off of. They are both here at the rear side of the exhaust system. To remove the exhaust off its hangers we just want to take a spray lubricant and spray down the studs. Then we can take either a set of pliers or a pry bar and pry it off the stud. We can just let the exhaust rest on the cross bar. 00:37

With the exhaust lowered we are actually taking a look at the driver side frame rail first. You can see we have got a large one inch hole at the bottom of the frame. We are going to be using that as our attaching point on both the driver and passenger sides. We are going to be using a carriage bolt and block assembly. We are actually going to do what is called a reverse pull. We are going to feed it up into this actual mounting hole and pull it back straight down. Along with the frame mounted attaching points we do have a center attaching point for the hitch and that is going to be to factory installed tow hook. 01:04

You will notice that on the driver side frame rail, the hole is just a little bit too small to get our block and also our carriage bolt into so we are going to need to enlarge it just a little bit just before we get started. You can do this a couple of different ways. You can either take a rotary tool to work out the side. The instructions illustrate exactly how much you are going to need to take. Or you can take a standard chisel and do it that way as well. We have opened it up just enough to get our block and carriage bolt in there. To now accomplish our reverse pull of our hardware into the frame. Again we are going to using the bolt leader that is provided with our installation kit. What we want to do is first take our block and slide in our bolt leader through it and then take our 7-1/ 16 inch carriage bolt and thread the bolt leader on to the carriage bolt. Then we will take the carriage bolt and feed it up through the hole followed by the block and pull it straight back down into position. Repeat that for the passenger side as well. 02:00

Then we will put the hitch up into position and hang it by the carriage bolts. With the frames bolts loosely installed you can go now to the center attaching point to the tow hook. We are going to be using the 1/ 2 by 2-1/ 2 inch bolt along with the one by two inch spacer. We are going to merge those two together. We are also going to need two of the one by two inch spacers with the round hole in them. Those are going to go in between the hitch and the tow hook. We will be attaching those together using the conical tooth washer and hex nut. With all of the hardware in place we can go through and start torquing our bolts down. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of bolts. With all of our bolts torqued down we just want to make sure we put our exhaust back up on its hangers and our installation will be complete. Now that we have got our hitch installed we are going to give you a couple of dimensions that will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little easier. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening is going to measure 12-7/ 8 inches. From the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 7 inches. This will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 24792 on a 2009 Honda CR-V.

Honda CR-V

This product is worth every penny; quality and workmanship is top notch, the fit was perfect, and the video makes installation a snap. Had it mounted in about 30 minutes. The matching wiring harness is just as good - again, the video was a great help. I also ordered bicycle rack #63120; it is well designed and fit my CRV perfectly. The website makes picking out the right products easy and I got free shipping too ! Etrailer can't be beat. 36599

2009 Honda CR-V

not a 30 minute job for me The installation of this hitch on my 2009 Honda CRV was not a 30 minute job - more like 1.5 hr. It does not require drilling but it does require a rat tail file to open up notch in the frame hole about 1/8 in. I could not file the notch or get the spacer (item 2) into the hole without removing the muffler. It is quite easy to remove the muffler (if the two bolts are not to rusty) and have complete access. 1695

Installing hitch on 2011 honda CR-V The draw-tite hitch is a good product. I have had them on two other vehicles and they worked fine. Instructions for installation are clear. However, I did have a couple of issues during the installation. Whe the carriage bolts are in place and I attempted to place the hitch, the carriage bolts wanted to go back up into the frame rail. Of course, you can't let this happen. Additionally, I do not have "C" clamps to temporarily hold the hitch in place so one person getting the washer and bolt in place can be a problem. I tried to use the floor jack but the uneven weight of the hitch made it more trouble than help. Finally, I was able to torque the driver's side carriage bolt and center bolt without a problem. But, the passenger side with the muffler in the way caused a clearance problem for my torque wrench. The installation is complete and I expect years of use out of the hitch. Overall, the installation was fine. If I had the proper "C" clamps and a smaller torque wrench, the job would have been a lot smoother. 5469

This trailer hitch is really truly excellent!!! I could not be more satisfied with my purchase, but more importantly, I was extremely satisfied with the level of customer support shown when my hitch was not shipped within the time frame that I was given, I got a lot of follow up information. It was really no big deal to wait an extra day or 2 for it to arrive, but I liked the communication provided. The bike rack I have works impeccably with this hitch, it does not rattle, shake or move, and I am very happy. I have not had a chance to use the electrical setup I also purchased, but will get to soon. Sorry I don't have any pictures to share, but I will recommend your website to anyone who has a need to purchase a trailer hitch or other items in the future Thanks so much 88730

I've installed a number Draw-Tite hitches on many different vehicles. They have all installed quickly and easily including this one I purchased for my CRV. I installed it in about 20mins without any issues. One recommedation I would offer is get yourself some rust inhibting spray paint and after making any drill holes, etc in the frame of the vehicle spray the frame prior to installing the hitch to prevent rust. Additionally, I always spray the entire hitch with rust inhibiting spray paint as well to cover scratches made during install and to cover exposed bolts etc. These hitches work great but rust quick! Spraying them prior to use extends the life of the hitch and prevents the eye sore of a rust ridden hitch. 11121

Difficult Installation This is a tedious installation due to the fact that you must "enlarge" (code word for drill or file) an existing hole in the hollow frame rails first. Then you must insert the bolt with a "pull wire" into the rail and pull it back down through the metal plate that is also inserted into the frame rail. You will need a helper for the install (or some other way to hold the hitch perfectly in place when messing with the wired bolts). This is a nice hitch but if I had it to do over, I'd pay the extra money for the Class III hitch that utilizes the existing treaded holes in the vehicle. 1309

I could not have asked for an easier installation. Between the instructions and the video it went smoothly. I took my time, and used a rat-tail file to enlarge the holes in the frame to fit the spacers. I sprayed undercoating on all the surfaces, then bolted up the hitch. I hung the hitch on the tow hook first, then slipped the wire through the hitch and bolded up one side at a time. The installation would have went faster with a helper, but if one takes their time it can be done alone without any trouble. Terrific service from etrailer! 12444

Good lightweight hitch. I purchased mine so that I could use a 1-1/4" hitch mounted bike rack and occasionally tow a light utility trailer. The etrailer installation kit is complete and makes installation easy. The center mounting point using the Honda tow hook and metal spacers is a bit klugey, but it seems to work. However, I've noticed on my hitch that the bolt through the center mount has loosened after use (twice now), so I'd recommend using blue LocTite on that bolt in particular. 252773

The service and delivery was excellent. The hitch was fairly easy to install having an air chisel and compressor. I did modify the rear attachment by addding a larger washer on the bolt head side for a little extra piece of mind and also spray painted the hardware black for asthetics. Great product for the price! 29225

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Fits on 2009 Honda CR-V for Transporting 2 Hybrid Bikes
  • Your 2009 Honda CR-V can be fitted with either a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch like Draw-Tite # 24792 or a heavier-duty 2-inch Class III hitch like # 87440 from Hidden Hitch. The Swagman XTC-2 2-bike platform style rack # S64670 that you referenced will work with either of these two types of hitch. This rack has a 35-lbs-per-bike weight capacity and works with wheelbases up to 66-inches (as measured from the two tires' contact points when resting on the ground). I have linked a...

  • The Right Bike Rack for a Class I Hitch on a 2007 Honda CR-V
  • The difference between classes is how much weight each can carry. A Class II bike rack is rated to hold more weight and you run the risk of overloading a Class I hitch. Also, Class I receivers physically will not except a higher class item. They are not designed to fit together. You could install a Class III hitch such as the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 87440. With this Class III hitch you could use any of our bike carriers. We have many popular bike racks that will fit a class...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Honda CR-V and a Thule Hitching Post Bike Rack
  • There are several hitches available for your 2011 Honda CR-V. The manufacturers we carry have made Class I and Class III hitches for your vehicle, but no Class II hitches. A Class I trailer hitch can accept a 1-1/4 inch accessory, but the Hitching Post rack (985) is for Class II hitches only. Also, since it has a 1-1/4 inch shank, it will not fit in a Class III trailer hitch without an adapter. It seems like the best way to make the 2 compatible would be to install a Class III trailer...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Honda CR-V
  • First, you are going to need a trailer hitch if you do not already have one on your 2009 Honda CR-V. You can use the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24792. This is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. For a Class I compatible bike rack that holds 2 bikes and is easy to install and use I recommend the Kuat Beta, # B202-114. This bike rack is very easy to install since it only weighs 12.6 pounds! It is also made of aluminum so it is corrosion resistant. I have linked a video review of...

  • Trailer Hitch and 5-Way Wiring Harness for Towing a Jon Boat with a 2007 Honda CR-V
  • If all you plan on towing is the boat and trailer then 200 pound tongue weight capacity and 2,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity of the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24792 that you have referenced would be a good choice. Check the owners manual on your CR-V because I believe that the towing capacity of the vehicle is 1,500 pounds and it is important that you stay under that. The correct ball mount for this hitch is # 3592. For a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball use # 19256. And if you ever...
