Today on our 2012 Honda CR-V, were going to be installing the Curt Hitch, part number 11555. This is what out hitch will look like once its installed. Here are a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 6 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 11-1/2 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier.
Now, lets go ahead with the installation. Before we can install the hitch, well first need to remove the underbody trim panel. There are multiple fasteners that will have to be removed. Next, were going to lower the exhaust. To do this, well remove the two rubber isolators at the rear of the muffler.
To remove the isolators, first well spray each one with some spray lubricant and you can take your pry bar, pliers, or exhaust hanger removal tool to remove the isolators. A quick tech tip to give yourself additional working room, we need to remove the isolator at the exhaust pipe also. And if that doesnt give you enough working room, you can also remove the two spring bolts that hold the muffler in place. Now, with the muffler out of the way, you can see it will give us complete access to the frame and our attachment points, which will be this hole here. Next, well need to enlarge that hole so that we can fit the 1-inch x 2-1/2-inch spacer into the frame.
Well simply drill through our hole on both sides, just large enough so we can get our block in place. First, I'm going to use a small bit and make a pilot hole. Each process we do here on the passengers side will get repeated identically on the drivers side as far as installing the hardware and the hitch. Alright, now with the holes drilled, you can see we can fit our block up into the frame. Next, we need to go ahead and put our hardware into the frame.
To do this, well be using the pull wire provided with our install kit and were going to be using a reverse pull method where we put the block onto the pull wire and then go ahead and thread on our bolt. Well take the bolt up into the frame and then our block. Pull our bolt back into position through the access hole we just used to put our hardware into the frame. Now, well go ahead and remove my bolt leader and repeat the same process on the drivers side. Next, we need to mark and then cut out a hole in our underbody trim panel. From the cutout from the tow hook, were going to measure over 13-1/2 inches. It should be right at the rib of one of the trim panels. Next, well measure up 4 inches to mark our front corner. The total depth will be 3 inches. Now, we can measure over 3 inches to get our width. Now, we can go ahead and connect the dots and cut it out. You can use a rotary tool or, in this case, a sharp utility knife that should get to the panel. Next, well go ahead and cut out the insulation on the underbody trim panel. Now, we can go ahead and reinstall the underbody trim panel. Now, with our trim panel up and so fastener is secure in position, well go ahead and put our hitch in place. Well use our 7/16 flange nuts to secure the hitch to the frame first. Be careful not to push your hardware back up in the frame while you install your flange nut. Well loosely install these as well have a third attachment point at the tow hook. Well start by putting one of the spacers on our carriage bolt. Well then going to install two spacers between the tow hook and the hitch bracket, and securing it with the 1/2-inch flange nut. Now, we can go ahead and tighten our hardware down. Now, with all our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now, with all our fasteners torqued to specification, we can go ahead and finish reinstalling the underbody trim panel. Now, with the underbody trim panel completely installed, well go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. Now, with everything installed, that will complete the installation of our Curt Hitch, part number 11555, on our 2012 Honda CR-V.

The product delivery and finish was very good. I ordered it for a 2012 CR-V and it came with instructions dated in 2010, nothing for the 2012. It was much more difficult to install than the 30 minutes stated in the instructions, more like 2 hours. Most of the extra time was due to the plastic cover panel on the 2012. I ground just a little off the edges of the spacers (then painted them) to get them through the holes as others have done. I also didn't lower the muffler, it isn't real easy to install, but can be done. The templet 3" X 3" hole in the plastic cover, shown below, is way larger than needed. I would go to the right from the tow hook slot 13 1/4" and make the hole 1 1/2" wide. I would also go up from the tow hook slot 3 3/4" and make the hole only 2" high. It would be a much better fit. I cut mine out 1/2" smaller all the way around, 2"x2" and trimmed as necessary and it still ended up bigger than I would have liked.32583

11555+S63360. Honda 2009 CRV + bike rack. Delive packaging. Hitch had punched 3 holes in the cardboard box. Thankfully the bolt kit was well secured to the hitch center, else it would have fallen out and got lost. The bike rack packaging was excellent. Fitting the hitch. Thanks for providing the fish wire, very easy to use per the instructions. Why are you asking the customer to damage their vehicles by filing? I ground chamfer edges on the 1" bar 'bolt washers' and they fitted thru the vehicle holes snugly. Fitting the bike rack to the hitch. Straight forward fitting but note that a 3/4" wrench is required to tighten the retaining bolt and undo it when you want to access to the trunk. My wife keeps a dedicated socket wrench in the car so this aspect of the rack is now a theft deterrent. 16732

Installs in about 2 hrs, most of time is associated with removing, trimming and replacing underpanel which is cumbersome and complicates torquing bolts, etc. Agree it is important to shift suggested trim location back toward bumper about 1/2" plus you can reduce overall size a little. Really pay attention to orientation of the underpanel behind the rear wheelwell when removing, it will save you time getting it back together since this was the fussiest area for me.37943

The instructions for slicing the vinyl cover are a little misleading. I had to hunt around and make exploratory cuts but did end up opening the cover up enough to mount the hitch safely. I didn't want to mess with replacing clips so I didn't take the vinyl shroud off altogether and made a bit of a mess (thank goodness for duct tape), still, the hitch installed easily enough with grinding down the rectangle washers and the fish wire..you only need to take a few millimeters off the edges of the washers to slip them into the frame opening. Lowering the muffler was simple, just use Dawn dish soap on the rubber bushings and it will slide off and then on with ease. The end result of using a 2" adapter left me with an unreasonable amount of sway in the hitch with a bike rack mounted. I'm going to look into having the 2" receiver welded in place on the hitch. I only use the hitch for a bike rack. I wouldn't dream of trying to tow something with a 4 cyl CRV.35877

Seems to work well with our Hitch Bike Rack. This is a light duty Class I hitch; we'll see how this Hitch performs pulling a trailer load of spring mulch.33054

Hitch is of good quality and mounts easily. On a 2012 CRV the rear underneath air valance is difficult to trim and reinstall. Took 2 and a half hours to complete job.32460

Hitch arrived early and one end of the hitch was protuding thru box. Hardware was securley taped to hitch. Best to download the latest installation instructions to get the panel cutting template. 1 1/2 hour job for the 2012 CRV. Waiting for the T light connector to be made. No trouble supporting hitch or working with exhaust. Thanks Curt31347

I purchased 2012 Honda CR-V in December 2011. O.E. trailer hitch is $363 + $200 installation. At this time Curt trailer hitch #11555 is the only afetrmarket one to fit my car. Instructions & installation: Instead of enlarging the frame holes I filed down the 1x3 blocks to fit the holes. Under body panel trim diagram is not for a redesigned 2012 CR-V. It took moor then two hours of tinkering lying on my back, but the result is very satisfactory. Sales people at "etrailer" have been very helpful in finding out which hitch fits my CR-V Thanks30785

Overall, product is as represented. Purchased to mount Thule 4 bike hitch mounted bike rack. Installation was a little more cumbersome than I expected. I needed a helper to hold the hitch in place so that the mounting bolts and rectangular washer were not pushed up into the mounting holes in the frame. The muffler had to be lowered from it's mounting blocks for the installation, and was a little difficult to get back in place because of the one arm of the hitch. Finally, a spacer block for the towing loop was missing, and had to be replaced by a 1/4" pc of aluminum stock that I had. On the plus side, I like the center support afforded by the tow loop bolt, more stability right near the load. The hitch looks great, doesn't protrude a lot from the bumper and has a neat appearance. I would appreciate stainless steel fasteners, using the hitch in the northeast U.S. there's lots of snow and salt in the winter. I would recommend this manufacturer to a friend.23510

Installation instructions were clear and straight forward as was the actual installation. My only comment is the 1x3 blocks that fit the chassis rails do not require the cassis holes to be cut with a cold chisel. Rather as pointed out by another user, the blocks can be slightly modified by camphering the edges with a file or stone. This saves the chassis rust protection which is important for users in states that uses salt in the winter. 21538

The hitch installaion and wiring installation went without a hitch (no pun intended) thanks in part to the excellent demonstration videos provided on your website. My only negative comment is that I wish your carrier was a little more attentive to handling the product in shipping. I have ordered before and each time the hitches have arrived protruding from the shipping container. I suspect that there is a lot throwing around during the handling process.12429
