Today on our 2001 Dodge Ram pickup we're going to review and install the Curt Class 5 extra duty 2 inch receiver tube hitch, part #C15300. Here's what it looks like once it's installed. As you can see we've got our heavy duty, square, cross-tube design into a fully welded construction. The entire hitch has a nice black powder coated finish. Blends in nicely with the under body of the vehicle. On either side of the receiver tube is our chain hold down. All the way through the receiver tube is the pre-drilled 5/8 pinhole.
The receiver tube itself is a 2 inch by 2 inch. It's a class 5 which means it's capable up to 2,400 pounds of tongue weight and a 16,000 pound tow capacity. Next, we'll give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. Such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 3-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube down to the ground is 16-3/4 inches. We'll now go ahead show you the minimum tools required for installing the hitch.
We've got our 3/4 inch socket, 7/8 inch socket, extension and ratchet. Our 9/16 drill bit and drill. Along with our torque wrench. Now, let's go ahead and show you how to install the hitch. To begin our install we're going to go ahead and point out the attachment points. We're going to have a total of 6 attachment points.
3 on each side. See each process we do here to one side will get repeated identically on the opposite side. Starting at the end of the frame rail we're going to use the 1/2 inch pre-drilled holes. However, the rear attachment point needs to be enlarged to a 9/16 hole. So, using a 9/16 drill bit we're going to go ahead and drill it out. Next, we can put our hardware in place.
We're going to have a 9/16 carriage bolt and spacer block. We'll engage the carriage bolt with the spacer block and then drop it down through the frame. Once the hitch is up to the frame we can use the 9/16 flange nut to secure it. For our center and forward attachment points we're going to use the 1/2 inch carriage bolt and spacer block. Engage the carriage bolt to spacer block and then drop it down through the frame. To secure the hitch we'll use the 1/2 inch flange nut for the center and forward attachment points. Now with my hardware in place here on the passenger side we will repeat the same process on the driver side. We're now ready to go ahead and put our hitch in place. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your fastener. Now for our center attachment point we're going to add a spacer block between our flange nut and the hitch. Now with all our fasteners in place we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Once we have it tightened down we can go ahead and torque to specifications, as indicated in the instructions. Now with everything installed, tightened down, and torqued to specifications we're ready to hit the road. That will do it for our review and install of the Curt Class 5 extra duty 2 inch receiver tube hitch, part #C15300, on our 2001 Dodge Ram pickup.
Average Customer Rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars (85 Customer Reviews)Specially designed for heavy-duty towing, this fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.
One extremely tough hitch. I have a 1996 Ford F250, the body shop thought it wouldn't work. I got it home and with a lot of grunting and drilling (use a new cobalt bit), I was able to bolt it, one side at a time. When drilling, use some cutting oil that's used for black iron pipe (Oatey, found in plumbing will work). To make sure your carriage bolt plate will seat flat, make sure to drill as close inward toward the center of your vehicle as you can, allowing yourself enough metal as is reasonable. Thanks etrailer for the expedited shipping and great phone help. I've attached some pics for those who want to see what it looks like installed. 66904

The hitchon my farm pickup tore loose from pulling heavy loads. I had a very heavy load to pull when my hitch failed so I started calling around for a class V hitch. Of course nobody in town stocks them so I ended up omline and found one at E-trailer. The sales woman was friendly and helpful in getting me set up with the hitch I needed. I ordered it 2nd day delivery and received it two days after I ordered it. I was concerned about the mounting as I have before ordered hitches from other places that did not line up with the factory holes. Everything fit well, I had to drill out 2 of the mounting holes for the heavier 9/16 rear bolts but that was a quick and easy fix. The hitch holes lined up well with the truck holes perfectly and it mounted up quickly to my truck. We put a bit of weld on it also to assure the strength we needed. Had to move a very heavy load and the hitch worked well. 158734

Fits perfect, easy to install, everything needed is included. It took less than 1/2 hr to drop the old, enlarge two holes and bolt up the new. Only difference would have liked it to have a trailer plug bracket attached. 227832

My application: 1989 F-250HD 7.3L IDI Extended Cab with a stock-style bumper. This thing is EXTRA beefy. The steel is twice as thick as the Reese class IV hitch it replaced. The mountung holes are bored out a little over-sized so you have wiggle room to install it straight and square. It sits a little tighter to the truck and bumper than my Reese did, but it's perfect and looks great. The coating seems durable, obviously only time will tell on that. You will have to drill into the frame. For most people 4 holes have to be drilled. Use lubricant! (I had the stock holes, and in addition had to drill 2 holes for the Reese hitch and I still had to drill 4 holes for this hitch. The mounting pattern is much more compact than most class III and IV hitches I've seen.) 184595

Ordered this hitch for a 78 F150 to pull my camper on the local trips, within 200 miles. This is a stout hitch and is really overkill for the weight I intend to tow, camper is 6000 pounds empty, but for the couple dollars more than the class 3, it just made sense. Install is easy if the rear gas tank is out, otherwise the fish wire will need to be used. All 6 bolt holes need to be drilled. With that said, it only took about 45 minutes to drill the holes and install as my gas tank was already on the floor for repairs. You can't go wrong for the price on this hitch, plus I got free shipping with my order, ordered on Thursday and it was delivered on Monday. This was not my first order from Etrailer and won't be the last as their service is always top notch. 277944
Was easy to install-looks great on my truck. Great experience shopping on your sight! 158070

I was looking for a receiver hitch for my 1987 F-250 that wouldn't interfere with my spare. I had to replace my bumper which was a ugly 10 in drop. (This won't fit the 10 in drop unless you make a cutout for the receiver) I picked up a stock, better looking bumper for 30 bucks. There where no holes in my frame so I removed the rivets, opened those hole and had to drill 4 more holes for the install. The hitch is the heaviest hitch I have seen and well worth the money. Free shipping and it was at my door in less than a week. 81631

First time ordering from eTrailer but it I'm sure it will not be the last time. The search process for a hitch for my 1995 F150 on the website was very quick, there were several options, and the information was straight forward and easy to understand. The hitch arrived in only about four days and I installed the hitch without any problems thanks to the clear instructions and the video that was on the website. Thanks for all the help. 121469

installeation wont take place foe a week from now. the product is heavy duty and exactly what i needed for my application. the one that i removed from the truck wash cracked and a brand not common. im very glade i looked at it before hauling my travel trailer through the mountain with my family of four. Thank you very much for providing pictures of your products, speedy delivery and great employee knowledge of the products you sell. 141787

The Receiver arrived 3 days earlier than expected, which was awesome considering we are signing on our house the next day after receiving the hitch, allowing us to haul our enclosed trailer better and move in. Everything was perfect, ordering was easy, shipping was super prompt, and installation was a breeze with my Mag Drill. The 96 F350 DRW has 54k miles on it and a factory tow package and controller, extremely rare. 215565

This is a really heavy duty hitch. I put it on my '78 F-150 (I know its a rated to tow way more then my truck will ever pull). It was a hair to big lining up the end bolt hole with the leaf spring bracket. I used my die grinder and smoothed out the egde ever so slightly and it went right into place. Theres a little bit bigger gap between my bumper and hitch then my previous one, but nothing that I can't get use too! 225554
I will only buy a CURT hitch. The reason being is that the ends are caped off with the mounting plates so no road salt can lay inside the main tube and rust it out causing a catastrophic failure. When UPS dropped it off we weren't home. the box was tore open where the mounting brackets had come through from throwing it around the loading docks, I hope the mounting hardware is still in the box..... 147020

I purchased item c15300 trailer hitch to replace a reese hitch that had rusted off of my 1997 dodge ram 1500. It was easy installed and I like the extra large loop holes for the safety chains. I use the hitch about 3 or 4 times a week. I have 3 different trailers and different applications for each trailer. I'm well pleased with the hitch and would recommend to anyone needing a trailer hitch. Thanks, 260560

Super fast shipping! I chose the 3-5 day shipping and it arrived 2 days later! Excellent communication as far as receiving emails about order updates and shipping information. Great product and super easy to install. Proper drill bits and drill are needed of course but after the holes were drilled it only took about 15 minutes to connect the hitch to the frame. 95216
although I just got it on and have not used it, I am more confident that it will work better then the bumper hitch! (sorry I put the wrong picture in first) 103852

I can't believe I got this hitch for the price. It took less than an hour to install on my '96 F250, I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks! 322155
These guys are top notch in every way. The service delivered by the staff at etrailer.com is the best out there, and their ability to source the best products combined with a great library of support documentation makes them the superior choice when shopping for trailer related goods. Thank you for the great deal! 220806
This is a very well made hitch with excellent weld quality and paint finish. Fast shipping. Installed on '95 F250. 271411
I would give this receiver a full five stars, but the carriage bolts sent with the offset washers didn't fit in them and you can't just make the square hole bigger. Luckily I was replacing a factory one and just used the original bolts. The receiver is quite beefier than the original and has some good quality to it. 223094

The hitch was shipped next day and recd it a few days later..instructions were spot on and total time for removal of my class 3and install of the class 5 was less than 45 minutes... Just need a "sharp" bit for the two holes I need to drill in my ram, but am very happy with the quality and install/fit 101761
Quality product that fit well on my 1994 Ford F250. Install was very simple. I would recommend this hitch over all the other brands more commonly known since it truly is a class 5 hitch where others I looked for were not for my make and model vehicle. This is exactly what I wanted and was looking for. 138650

Product is of high quality. Only issue was to install takes much longer than was reported in the instructions. Says 2 hours but reality is more like 5 hours. One hole drilled to 9/16 and four others had to be made to 1/2 through the frame. Fit very well, good finish, high quality welds. 227067

Great customer service, The first hitch I ordered would not fit due to the frame dimension which was wider than the hitch. Called back and figured out which hitch would fit and they paid freight to send the first one back. Good quality product and easy installation. Thank you 82645

Way better than ever expected. Ordering the product was ao easy and you can't beat the prices and delivery rate. The hitch i have now has given nothing but problems and with this new hitch all my fears of failing trailer hitches are gone. I will be ordering again from etrailer. 234086

Well made product that fit perfect with great instructions. Was super easy to install. Etrailer provided great customer service. They kept you updated every step of the way. Super fast shipping. I had it in 2 days. I definitely recommend buying from them. 118545
The hitch is good and heavy duty. I am not impressed on the mounting. At first no holes lined up had to bore them out , then only 2/out of 6 holes lined up. I was furious , had to drill and torch and bore on the frame of my 97 Ford f250 not to happy. 259518
Very nice product. Easy to install. I understand now why it is rated to tow much more than the original equipment hitch as it is made from much heavier gauge steel. Also, Lexus G. was a pleasure to work with. Thanks for an excellent experience. 172321

Perfect fit , looks good, box was badly beat lots of extra tape (looks like UPS had their work cut out moving this around) but the hitch survived, a bit scraped up but no biggie, quick delivery thanks etrailer/George. 229024

This hitch is heavy duty. a little more than what i need for my camper, but better too strong than too weak. The price was 100 dollars less than local retail, and free shipping. Hard to beat. Thanks alot E.T.! 172268

Installation on a 1991 F250 for pulling 32ft R.V. using weight distribution hitch. Did require drilling but other than that a great hitch. Great customer service, fast shipping. 116140
Heavy duty, beefy hitch with strong attach points for safety chain, worth the money for pulling heavy loads or peace of mind. Nice fit, would buy it again. Highly recommend. 263273
