Today on our 2015 Acura RDX, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Curt Custom Fit Class III 2-inch Trailer Hitch. Part Number C13130. Here's what the hitch is going to look like once installed. As you can see, like most hitches that work on this vehicle, it's going to be a really nice, clean look. You get your tube that comes out. It's about flush with the magnum upper, maybe inset about an inch to the end so you're not going to have to worry about bumping your leg or anything like that. Now, compared to some of the other hitches, this one does offer a higher tongue weight capacity at 600 pounds. Gross trailer weight capacity is going to remain at 4,000 pounds, but, of course, we need to consult the RDX's owner's manual to make sure those are allowable.
If not, you'll go off of whichever of those numbers are the lowest. We're going to have a 5/8 hitch pin hole that'll allow us to connect any of the anti-rattle devices, standard hitch pins and clips. Whatever we need. Most accessories are going to work there just fine. Safety chain connection points down here at the bottom for firming up a bike rack, securing bikes, or also connecting your trailer safety chains. Now, a couple of measurements that'll help you in selecting your ball mount bike rack or cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receive tube opening. We're looking at about 13 1/4 inches.
From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper is around 3 1/2. To begin our installation here in the rear of the vehicle, there are going to be two holes. There in the very back of the frame right here. They're threaded or there's a weld nut. You're going to use your M12 bolt and that's going to thread right up inside. You have one here in the driver's side and in the same location on the passenger side.
Now, in front of that, there's going to be a smaller hole right here. We're also going to put a bolt through that by placing a handle nut right over the top through this larger hole and then threading it in. Now, we're going to raise our hitch up into position. You'll want to tilt your hitch kind of up and rotate it up into position. You can see the weld nut here at the rear that we're going to use for mounting on the passenger side. You want to be sure that that conical toothed washer is facing in towards our hitch.
We'll run that in there pretty far so it will support this side, then we can head to the other side and take care of it. Now, our rearmost hole, as you can see, that's going to line up with the back hole on the hitch. What we'll do is take one of our handle nuts. Put just a slight bend in it. It's going to go right in the hole. Then, we'll guide it over the two holes that line up here, then we'll use one of the 1/2 inch bolts and thread that right in. All right, that side is started. Let's go get the passenger side done. Now, with everything started, let's take a quick look to be sure we have our hitch centered. That looking good. Let's snug down each of our bolts. Then, we can head to the other side and take care of it. All right, now let's refer to our instructions, find out what our torque specs are and torque each bolt down to specification. That'll complete today's installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, Part Number C13130, on our 2015 Acura RDX. .

Meets or exceeds all of my expectations. Install was even easier than I thought it would be. The dealer wanted $1059 for a hitch (with harness) installed. You have to be kidding me. Since this will only be used for a bike rack I didn't need a harness anyway. First, this hitch wasn't listed on the 2016 page for the RDX but since I didn't think the mid-model refresh really changed anything structurally in the back of the vehicle I ordered it from the the 2015 page. As I hoped, it fit perfectly, just like the 2013-2015. When I ordered the only hitch listed for the 2016 RDX was an 1 1/4" model and I wanted the 2" model. The install went even better than I though it might. I did the work by myself and saw were some others had used zip-ties to hold up one side while working on the other. I found that wasn't necessary for me. I was able to lift the hitch up to the approx. position and hold it there with one hand while I threaded the M12 screw into the factory weld nut with the other. Then I scooted over the other side while still holding up the hitch and threaded the other M12 screw in. From there it was just like the video show. By the way, the videos are absolutely a great way see how to do the install ahead of time. It makes things so much easier to watch somebody do the install while explaining what they are doing instead of having to read through installation instructions. I did put a little loctite on the screws just for a belt and suspenders caution although with the torque specs. for the M12 & 1/2-13 screws there is probably close to a zero chance they would ever come loose. Although I didn't time myself but it couldn't have been more than 20 minutes to install once I had the tools laid out, hitch unpacked and started the install. And I absolutely love the way the hitch looks on the RDX. Super clean with only the receiver showing. It always has bothered me to see vehicles where the supporting tubes are clearly visible viewing from the back. I want to give a shout out to Etrailer also. The hitch was ordered on Sunday and I was hoping it would ship on Monday so I could have it by the weekend and get it installed. Monday came and I had no word of it shipping so I called Etrailer. They said it was in stock and would probably ship on Tuesday. I was a little disappointed since that meant I wouldn't get it until the following Monday. But, when the shipping noticed came from UPS on Tuesday I saw it was being shipped 3 Day Select so I would get it Friday and could install it Saturday as I had hoped. I don't know if my phone call had anything to do with it or if it is standard policy to ship 3 day but it was a very pleasant surprise. I loaded up my new 1UP USA bike rack on the hitch and it works and fits great while being rock solid. In the future if I need any towing products I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Etrailer or Curt. Highly recommended. 212750

I installed the Curt trailer hitch P/N C13130 to my new 2015 Acura RDX AWD. It took about 20 - 30 minutes, I took my time. It looks good. It fits flush with the underneath of the rear bumper of the vehicle (although, I don't know if you can really call it a bumper in this new vehicles) or the frame of the vehicle. Just follow the instructions of the movie clip provided by Etrailer. The wiring connection is no problem either. I used P/N 56008. The trailer connector in the vehicle is located (when looking from the rear) opened tail gate, there is a panel on the left side mid-way of the tail gate. Pop the panel out. There is a blue connector tucked inside approximately 10" from the edge of the opening going forward. (NOTE: Acura recommends that you remove the negative connector end from the battery before doing this, which will reset your navigation system, but you can reset it again after connecting the negative cable back to the battery). Plug the trailer wiring into the blue connector inside the opening . Plug the large fuse (10 Amp) into the red fuse holder in the supplied wiring, make sure it sits all the way in. The black box that came with the wiring harness is the light converter. I placed mine by attaching it to the inside frame with the double adhesive tape that came with it, just make sure you clean the frame of the vehicle with alcohol before applying it. You can feel the frame by sticking your hand inside the opening, towards the back, and as a precaution I tied it with a nylon strap. Route the rest of the wire with the connector at the end for the trailer hook up through the lower, rear foam located in the tire compartment and tuck the pig tail into the tire area. When towing a trailer just open the tail gate, bring the connector outside and close the tail gate. The rubber seal around the tail gate is very flexible and will not pinch the wires. Lastly, inside the engine compartment there is a fuse box with all the fuses. Inside the plastic lid there are additional fuses. I used a 20 Amp fuse and inserted in the 4th slot, then reconnected the battery, and I am done. Please note: I have not towed as yet and can't assert any thing I have done will work. I am planning, not to tow more than 1500 lbs. My writing herein is for information only of my own installation. I DO NOT RECOMMEND OR IMPLY ANY USE OF TRAILER PARTS, ELECTRICAL MATERIALS IN ANY VEHICLE. 186275

Just leased new Acura RDX and wanted to install a hitch and bike rack. E=Trailer's web site and customer service (Christine) were top notch. I loved the personal attention and the You Tube videos on how to install the hitch. It took me about an hour but I was able to get underneath the car and follow the instructions. The handle nuts are the key to holding this hitch in place. It helps to bend them for easier access. Once you do that, it's a snap. 225149
Acura RDX 2013 -hitch self install ~45 minutes 1) Make sure you have the 19mm socket , extender 6" or longer adapter and calibrated torque wrench. The location of the bolts is a bit finicky in the rdx and these tools help a ton if you are doing it by yourself 2) Especially if you are doing it yourself get some zip ties very long ones from home depot to hold the hitch in place temporarily (double the zip ties at each location so it doesn't snap). This thing is quite heavy and suggest you do it carefully and take the time to gently raise the hitch with some support boxes (have to do it at an angle and slide the hitch into place to align with the bolt holes due to the bumper on the way). Some have mentioned to bend the bumper , but I did not do that. raising the hitch carefully at an angle and sliding into place to align with the bolt terminals then zip tie and start to secure with the supplied bolts 3) And oh the washer has a teeths which needs to face towards the hitch .THIS is IMPORTANT Overall looks excellent very clean finish , I am curious to know how corrosion resistant the assembly is over time ... Thanks to folks at etrailer for excellent communication and the website layout is helpful to find recommendations and accessories 139541

I installed this on a 2013 Acura RDX; the fit could not have been any better..perfect fit! Barely noticeable when looking at the back of the car. Easy install if you follow the instructions and clean the threaded openings for the screws. Took me about 30 minutes and I used jack stands to hole the hitch in place while securing the screws. 127050

This hitch far exceded my expectations. Salesgirl was way more than helpful. She actually pointed me in a different direction than the one I was looking at ( less expensive--better quality ). The holes matched up perfectly. Very satisfied with Curt and etrailer.com. 148558

It was easy to put on. Took me ten minutes. Really. One problem. The 3/4 blot and nut would not tighten completly. So i loosened it thinking it was striped. But, it was not and the nut popped out if the sliver holder and was lost in the frame. I got it but it was a pain. 86761

Just finished installing hitch on 2013 Acura RDX. Hitch was easy to install and fits perfect. Looks well built - I'm very happy with it. I read a couple of reviews on this site before starting that were very helpful. First thing I'd pass on is that someone suggested that if installing by yourself, use a heavy zip tie to hold one side in place while starting bolt on opposite side, then cut zip tie and install bolt on that side. That worked perfect, wouldn't have thought of that myself. Other advise is to look at you tube video that etrailer produced showing how to do the install on 2013 RDX. VIdeo is short but was very helpful - wish they made a similar video for wiring harness for 2013 RDX - that was a bit more difficult to figure out. 102693

Hitch is great. Perfect fit. Would normally be very easy to install. One issue during installation: The nut on the "handle nut tab" (see step 3) was welded slightly off center. The nut broke free of the handle while tightening. Luckily my girlfriends dad was able to back off the bolt and fish out the nut with a bent paperclip. Also luckily my girlfriends dad had the welding equipment and know-how to re-weld the nut to the handle. This added substantial time and hassle. Installation would have taken 15-20min without the problem. I'm sure etrailer or curt would have sent another nut tab assembly but this of course would have taken time. 177580

The product arrived quickly. The box had one end of the hitch protruding about 4 inches. Otherwise, all was intact. Instructions were good including videos. However, this hitch is almost impossible to install yourself unless you have ramps to lift the car. I tried to get under the car and do it myself with zip-ties. This was really silly. I had all the necessary tools, including a torque wrench, but there is simply not enough room. I bought a new Acura RDX and the Service Department installed it in about 10 minutes with no charge. Unless you have a lift, get someone else to do it. That being said, it's an excellent product and looks great. 219538
Got it today. Installed it. Perfect. 3rd hitch from this website and not dissapointed. 100801

Heavy-duty solidly built bike hitch. Holes lined up just right to frame of my SUV (2015 RDX). Took me (a senior) about 35 mins to install, I just followed instruction sheet and UTube video. Now I just have to decide on a bike carrier. 172819
Appears to be a solid product after a few days of use. I had it installed by a mechanic due to lack of proper tools, but the installation was as easy as described in the documentation. Well built, does the job and looks nice too. 284045

Thanks Patrick, I installed this past weekend. Took about 30 minutes. Instructions were great! 136713

Perfect fit onto my 2014 Acura RDX. Couple of drawbacks with the item I received. 1. Box came damaged, but the product seemed fine. 2. Missing bolts, which were quickly remedied by etrailer.com 3. Some superficial rust developed at the hitch hole. Possible from paint being scratched off during transportation. A bit of spray paint over it, and all is well. Besides these few of issues, solid build product. Easy to install (took me 25 minutes, by myself, after watching youtube / etrailer instructions. I would buy the product again for my next vehicle and most definitely buy from etrailer. 321782

Perfect fit for my 2015 RDX. Excellent packing and quality product. Installed easily thanks to instructions and video. Only issue was tack weld securing nut to handle was defective. One was not lined up properly to allow bolt to enter and the other just fell off. This required a little MacGyvering with a glue gun and additional lock washer. 186940
I received the item today. The box had part of the hitch sticking out of it. The nuts with the handles are poorly made. One nut was broken off when I opened the screw bag. The other broke loose from the handle with the bolt just starting to thread. Now it just turns, and I can't get the bolt out or the handle back out. Will have to cut bolt head off to get back out. I called customer service and the best they could do was get me new bolts and nuts in 3 days. The hitch itself seems good. Just the installation hardware is poorly made. 220185

I have not been able to tow anything with the newly installed reciever at this time. I'm sure I will be happy with it. The reciever went on very easy and it seems to be of very good quality. I would like for there to be a bracket installed for the trailer lights plug to mount better. I simply "ziptide" the plug to the side of the reciver near the safety chain hooks. That will work ok, but could be a little better for a high end vehicle (2013 Acura). Etrailer did an excellent job shipping (free) fast and easy! Thanks guys! 118123
Good price and quick shipping. I haven't had a chance to use it yet since I haven't received my bike rack yet. Easily installed on my 2013 Acura RDX by one person (me) using a couple tips I found on the acura forum. 1) use a couple heavy zip ties through the non threaded holes furthest from the rear bumper to hold the hitch In place. 2) put an inverted bucket under the receiver. This makes it easy to install the two threaded bolts. Then cut the zip ties off and install the other two bolts. Took about 20 minutes. 79433
Arrived quickly in less than a week. This is the second hitch I have ordered from etrailer. Their prices are great and service and shipping is excellent. They do a great job updating you on the progress of your order. Hitch fits well on my 2015 Acura RDX. No need to move or disconnect anything. Took it to my local gas station and put the car on the lift and easily bolted in the hitch. No need for moving, cutting or disconnecting anything under the car. Very please with etrailer and the Curt hitch looks great! 193287

Received the Curt Trailer Hitch for our Acura RDX. We will be using the hitch for our Bike Rack. Had ordered the exact hitch on another site and even though they showed it was in stock and my credit card was charged, it turned out it was on backorder. After waiting over 3 weeks I called etrailer and I had my hitch in 4 days. Their Customer Service was Fantastic! The hitch shipped the same day I ordered it and shipping was Free. The price was also less than the other site. I highly recommend ETRAILER.COM 103070

Ordering the hitch was easy by phone and questions were answered to my satisfaction. Within 2-3 hrs I received an email stating my order had been filled, was already shipped, and I should receive in 2-3 business days. Hitch was received in 2 days! Including time to set up ramps to back my RDX on (per suggestion of another customer), I'm certain installation was complete within 15-20 minutes, as stated by other satisfied customers. Plan to use the hitch later this week. Very satisfied customer! 103079
So far so good. Very easy to install, although you'll want to make sure you have a good torque wrench with a long handle (it takes some muscle to torque the back two bolts to 110ft/lbs). I will be using this hitch primarily for a bike rack, but could eventually put it to use towing a small sailboat. Also worth reiterating that even though this hitch is rated at 4000lbs the Acura RDX is rated for only 1500lbs - sales person at Acura dealership told me the brakes are the limiting factor. 145693
Great price, solid product, and easy installation. The only installation snafu was my fault for not reading the directions. The bolts that went into the fitted slots on the RDX are slightly different that those used for the non-fitted slots. It was clear in the directions but again I didn't read them before digging in. Once that was resolved it fit my Acura RDX just as expected with no issues at all. Looks nice with only the receiver viewable from the outside. 224471
by: Gary K.08/21/2016
Excellent hitch that is easy to install. I did it by myself in about 20 minutes. Trickiest part is to get the hitch up under the rear cover on the RDX and I used a floor jack to hold in place while I put the bolts in. Bolts and handle nuts make this an exceptionally easy installation. Would highly recommend those who don't mind getting a little dirty to do it themselves, saved us about $150 on installation cost that Acura wanted. Good heavy duty hitch! 286273

Excellent product, installation was easy and the bolts were the amazing part of it! I bought this to put on my new car, so that I could use a cargo carrier for excess "stuff" that I accumulated over a months visit. This way I had the car cargo area for my 3 puppies... Shipping was fantastic! It came quicker than my Christmas cards reached their destinations! I am so glad that i used this company instead of having it installed by a company. 326118

The hitch receiver arrived quickly and on time. In perfect condition. I raised it up into place with a small floor jack and it slid right in and the job was done in just a few minutes. In place, the receiver clears the bumper fascia without bending it and does not look too obvious. This is a heavy-duty part that will handle way more than the 2015 Acura RDX can tow and at the same time does not detract from the vehicle's appearance. 274927

I purchased this hitch for my 2017 Acura RDX. Package had a big hole in it but I am sure this is due to mishandling by the postal service. Hitch itself was not damaged. This is definitely a 2 person job. I maneuvered it into position and then had my wife use my portable jack to hold it up (put it near the middle of the hitch) and then it was very easy to screw in the bolts. All in all it took about 30 minutes. 283804
I was trying to figure out how to travel with two kids in a small SUV that didn't have a lot of storage. Priced a trailer hitch install at almost $500 with electrical hook up which I didn't need. A friend told me about e-trailer. Found a 600 lb/4000 lb receiver. I installed it in about 15 min with two different sized sockets and torque wrenches. Done. What a great alternative to what I almost shelled out. 242291
by: Jim H.05/07/2016
I followed the instructions on the e-trailer web site and installation was straight forward. It's a bit challenging for a single installer because of the weight of the hitch and trying to position and hold while threading the bolts. After a bit of maneuvering I was able to prop the hitch close to the final position using two jack stands. After that, threading and final installation wasn't difficult. 249000

The hitch was easy to install myself (and I am not very handy). It took about 45 minutes, but if I had to do it again only 20 minutes tops. Make sure to have someone there to help you hold it up while putting in the first 2 bolts (though I was able to manage this myself), this was the hardest part. You can barely see the hitch once installed and fits flush with the rear bumper. 276053

Great product and fast shipping. Very simple installation process, completed on my 2013 RDX in about 35 minutes. There were 2 of us which did help with holding it in place as the bolts were tightened. Used it right away with a bike carrier and it seemed quite solid and well built. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and wouldn't hesitate to order from etrailer.com in the future. 270824
The installation was perfect. The only problem I had was that the undercoating on my Accura had gumbed up the threads so I had to buy a tap. This was not a common thread pitch so I had to order the right tap. I could not find it in any of the local hardware stores. This cost me a few days. Once that was done the installation was easy and the hitch fits perfect. 233993
Purchased on Friday evening (6:00 pm). Was delivered on Monday, a day ahead of schedule. I asked a friend to help install, no problem encountered. I have not installed the basket currently, but will do shortly will for coming vacation. If I need either a new hitch or some other similar product, E-Trailer will be first on my list. Thank you! 213707
Hitch was delivered quickly in bullet-proof packaging. I was both surprised and impressed by the heft of the hitch. Much more substantial than the one it replaced. Installation was easy -- instructions included step by step color photos of how to install in my model car. The hitch is super solid and unobtrusive -- just what I was looking for. 162905

The customer service was outstanding. I called one night at 7pm and the lady on the phone told me she would have the hitch shipped out that night. The hitch arrived 3 days later. Took a look at the hitch and it was very well made. Installation took about 30 min. An extremely easy install. Bolt up up without having to readjust anything. 147707
It seems sturdy but I have yet to use it. The only problem was with installation. There are a total of four (4) bolts. Two (2) are metric and two (2) are us std. This slowed me down becase the us std will not fit in the car frame. All the bolts should be the same to idiot proof it. A phone call straightened out my situation. 72203

This is my first time installing a hitch. Great hitch came with all the instructions and was easy to install. The only problem was the weld broke on the handle nut before I got a chance to install it. Customer service had a new one sent in a couple of days so I installed the hitch with 3 bolts until I got the replacement. 231574

Service was excellent and hitch was all it was represented to be. While I elected to have it installed for me, installation was quick, easy and only about $42 through my regular auto repair shop. I am very happy with the whole experience. 159966

Hitch arrived on time and bolted up in 10 minutes on my 2015 Acura RDX. 159692
Very pleased. Heavy, coated product. Excellent installation instructions online as well. Took less than one hour from arrival at lift to departure. I had no challenges installing this on my Acura. Use a torque wrench. One year later - no problems. I use a rubber hitch cover when nothing is installed. 313657

After researching for a hitch to use to hook a bike rack to I came across e-trailer.com. Of all the websites I visited in my opinion e-trailer had plenty of choices with all specs. They most certainly had the lowest prices. Instructional videos were also available. 222030

I received the hitch assembly and wiring harness via UPS at 2:00 p.m., and had both installed by 3:15 p.m. Would have been faster if I had read the instructions for Acura a little closer before I began. Seems like a perfect fit and cost-effective solution. 292687

I had a friend help me install the hitch. We used wheel ramps to get a little extra room under the RDX and an inverted five gallon paint bucket to rest the hitch on while we started the bolts. Start to finish less than 20 minutes. Just as advertised. 97909
Trailer hitch receiver for my Acura was delivered quickly, had great instructions and was a breeze to install. I can now load my bike rack myself and meet friends for biking without having to arrange a ride. Would definitely use etrailer again. 291459
Great product! Extremely easy to install it only took about 20 minutes and the best part is that it looks as if it was factory installed. The customer service rep was excellent! The rep took her time to answer all questions in great detail. 222281
This hitch was very easy to install on a 2013 Acura RDX. I was able to install it by myself, although it would have helped to have a second person. I am very happy with this hitch. It looks good, and is barely noticeable on the vehicle. 207277
by: Roger B08/09/2015
excellent. only problem i ran into was the car itself... the nut welded to the frame was off just a smidge so i had to drill out that hole so the bolt would thread into the nut.. once that was complete, it all went together perfectly. 217952
After discussing our needs with Patrick from etrailer, we ended up ordering a Curt Class III hitch. The hitch arrived quickly -- 2 days after the order was placed. It was installed the next day, and everything works well. 66848
Was worried about the installation so read the instructions and watched a video prior to attempting. 15 minutes after taking out of box, installation was complete. Fits perfectly, looks good. Easy for novices. 246286
