installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today, on our 2009 Hyundai Sonata, we will be installing the Curt hitch, part number 11325. This is what our hitch will look like once it is installed. Next, we will go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 5-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 10-3/4 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier.
Now, lets go ahead with the installation. The first step of our install is actually going to be removing the plastic underbody trim panel on the drivers side. We will remove this and it will not be reinstalled for this application. Now, with the underbody trim panel out of the way, you can see it exposes the 2 frame fasteners here on the drivers side. Each job we do to these 2 fasteners will get repeated identically on the passenger side.
Before we attempt to install the hardware here in the frame, we are going to want to clean out each one of the weld nuts. To do this, we will use some spray lubricant and a 1/2-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092. After you clean out the weld nut, I recommend you take one of the new 10 mm bolts and go ahead and thread it into the weld nut, just to make sure it will go nice and easily. Now, we have the drivers side done, we will go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Next, we will need to lower the exhaust so that we can remove the heat shield.
Lets go ahead an install a safety strap so that our exhaust does not fall too far, too fast and damage any of the exhaust. To lower the exhaust, we have 1 bolt to remove from a hanger, just forward of the rear axle. The second hanger that will need to be removed is just behind the muffler and to remove this hanger, we will use a little spray lubricant and a pair of pliers to remove the rubber isolator from the muffler. You can see with our exhaust lowered, it will give us much easier access to the heat shield. We have a total of 4 fasteners that will need to be removed.
We can go ahead and set our fasteners and heat shield aside as we will be reinstalling these after the installation of the hitch. Next, we need to go ahead and put our tow hook hardware in place. The tow hood hardware will be our carriage bolt and block, a conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and a nut securing them. If you run into clearance issues when installing your bolt and block into position, I recommend to remove these 4 fasteners and pull the fascia back, allowing you access to drop the bolt and block in place. Then we will go ahead and resecure the fascia back to its proper position. Now, with our tow hook hardware in place, it is a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while you install your fasteners. We will start with the fasteners for our tow hook using the conical tooth washer and nut. Then, we will use our new 10 mm bolt and conical tooth washer for our 4 frame fasteners. Now, with all of our hardware in place, we will go ahead and tighten it down. Once we have our hardware tightened down, we will go back and torque each of our fasteners to specifications as indicated in the instructions and with that done we can go ahead and reinstall the passenger side heat shield. Now, with our heat shield back in place, we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust and remove our safety strap. With that done, this will complete the installation of our Curt hitch, part number 11325 on our 2009 Hyundai Sonata.

... I installed this hitch on a 2007 Sonota (4 cyl.) today. Had to use a jack to 'force' the second side high enough so the last two holes would align. The tow hook seemed to keep it too low from aligning easily. Also had to lower the exhuast (three bolts) and remove the heat shield (four nuts) above it to get enough room to torque the two bolts on that side. Wiring was fairly simple. The photo in the instuctions for trimming the factory underbody panel was helpful and accurate. Looking forward to using it now.1597

Worth the extra $22 Installed on my '06 Sonata (2.4L I4) with single exhaust. Needed to remove 2 exhaust hangers, drop muffler and remove the heat shield to install two bolts on passenger side. On driver side, the plastic cover was removed and required minor trimming (as detailed in the instructions) Hitch required some 'springing' to get the bolts in, but basically everything lined up well. No hitch pin or clip was included, although the description claims it is. I believe this hitch is superior to the H.H. and D.T. because it utilizes all fours holes in the frame for mounting, vs. just two holes for the others.1083

Nice quality hitch. I bought this hitch over the two cheaper ones as in general you get what you pay for. This is the case with Curt Hitches. It installed easily. Everything lined up excellent, all bolts fit and were supplied as was the draw bar. Took about 45 minutes to install due to plastic piece on the car.179

The product was delivered as described. The powder coat finish was excellent. Fit left some to be desired. Instead of the 30-40 minutes installation time advertised it took me 90 minutes to install. The weldment was not square and required a floor jack to get into place in order to install all of the bolts. Overall the function will meet my needs. Mainly it will be used for a bike rack and light towing.59437

I spent way too long trying to make this hitch fit my 2009 Hyundai Sonata. When I first lifted the hitch into place, the space between the mounting brackets and the weld-nuts on the frame rail was about 1/2" - 1". I tried using the supplied bolts but could not get them threaded because they were too short to make the gap. I went to the hardware store and got longer bolts. That helped, but I still had to first thread the passenger side and then use a jack to tweak the driver side into position. I should've paid the extra few bucks for the Hidden Hitch. The design looks a lot better and only uses a single bolt on the bracket so you do not need to move the muffler. 39500

The product itself is of excellent quality, far better then I expected. The gauge steel is superior then most other products I have seen and it fit perfectly on the car. The only negative I found was if you do not have access to a lift it would be almost impossible to install this in a timely manner. 38213

I watched the install video for the hitch and wiring harness, so when I started I know exactly what I was doing. Fit pretty much as explained after a little adjustment to the tow loop (guess it got smacked a little when car was taken of hauler) and had to use a floor jack to get last side of hitch up to frame rail and the attaching points. All in all it took about an hour to install and another 15 minutes for the wiring harnessl hook-ups. I should have ordered the cap to cover the 1 1/4" opening though.29845

I recommend providing a longer 3/8"-16x1 3/4" carriage bolt for this installation. The only way I was able to install the .250 spacer through the tow loop to the trailer hitch was to purchase a 2 1/2" carriage bolt at the local hardware store which allowed greater flexability to install the hex bolts into the frame rail. After hitch installation, I cut off any additional bolt length after the hitch was installed. I would rate this installation easy to moderate.19456
