Today we are going to install part number 13408 from Curt, and we are going to install this on a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. What is going to happen is we are going to install where this bolt is. It will reuse this existing hole that comes with a new fastener, and also this existing hole here in the frame. Also, to give us a little bit extra working room, we are going to disconnect the exhaust at these two bolts right here, just to give us a little more flexibility so we have a little bit more room to work. All right, next we will install our hardware for this hole here. Sometimes, if this hole is not big enough, there is a bigger access hole further up in the frame and you can pull it through. But in this case we actually have enough room to just do everything in one spot. Put it in the hole we are going to use, push it up in there, put our block in there, and pull it back through.
And at this point, we have got your hardware installed, we can go ahead and lift your hitch into position, and hang it by those bolts we just installed. And you want to leave your hardware loose so you can move the hitch around as needed to thread into your bolts right here. The Jeep itself, depending on the year, will actually have different bolts that are used, so the hardware that comes with this has different bolts. And the best way to match up the bolt to make sure you have the right one is by the size of the bolt itself. And b, the more accurate way is if you put the threads together and they mesh evenly, then you know you have the right bolt. Now we have got all our bolts started, we can go ahead and snug them down. Now we can go ahead and torque the bolts down to their specified settings in the instructions. Our next step after torquing the bolts is to go ahead and reinstall the exhaust hanger. All right, and with those bolts torqued down, that finishes our install of part number 13408 from Curt.

This is a very nice receiver. The problem I had is that the carriage bolts supplied do not fit through the access hole on the side of the frame. I had to grind a flat edge on one side of the carriage bolt to get it to slip into the access hole on the side of the frame on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. Fortunately, I have an air grinder so I was able to do it fairly quickly. It could take a while if you had to file it by hand. Other than that, no problems with the installation.26626
same issue here, but i just did a reverse feed through the actual hole where it goes. put it on the fishwire, then put on the space... put both up through the large opening on the bottom of frame.. pull bolt back down through.

Installing this by yourself is possible! Yes, it was extremely easy to install, but took longer than the 30 minutes, because I had no help available at the time. Excellent product for the money; GREAT PRICE and speedy delivery!!! Only issue I have is that it was not a 30 minute install. I realize that hitches are made to standards to fit most vehicles without any problems. However, the tolerances were so close on this hitch that the gas tank shielding on the jeep was in the way on the driver side. With some persistence and slight prying I finally managed to get all the bolt holes lined up. The hitch did not install as simply as illustrated in the how to video.10512

Jeep Wrangler - '04- hitch installation Product arrived promptly, complete and undamaged. The 20 minute install time is not realistic for a first timer without an air ratchet. More like 45-60 minutes but still fast and fairly simple. The carriage bolts do not fit through the access hole noted. After trying to grind the head smaller I decided to try the hole where it will attach instead. With the fish wire it was easy to insert and retrieve through the same hole so I would suggest that. Hitch looks great and glad to see the "Made in America" sticker on it. Thanks. 4865

The Curt receiver hitch fit perfectly on my '98 Wrangler TJ. It was an easy job that I accomplished by myself with the help of a floor jack to hold the receiver up while I fastened it in place. The wiring harness was as easy as plugging in the two inline connectors. I priced having the hitch installed locally, and I saved about $150 doing it myself. Excellent product for a good price. One small flaw though. The front bolt bracket angle was off just a bit so the bracket did not sit flush on the frame by about an 1/8" in the back. Probably no big deal as I able to torque to specifications anyways. Otherwise looks great on the vehicle and will no doubt do the job.52716

Vehicle: 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport This is a two part review. The first is etrailer and their service. This was my first experience with them and I am IMPRESSED. I placed the order Tuesday night at 8:30 and it was delivered at 12:30 Thursday afternoon. Their communication is excellent. Their website is fantastic for tracking the shipment. I found myself checking it more often than I should have just to watch the progress on the map. Part two: the receiver. Everything was right, nothing was damaged, everything fit, everything worked the first time. The packaging was good. The Curt receiver is solid with good welds and good paint. The holes lined up. The instructions were good enough. Oh yeah my only complaint is the carriage bolt heads were a little to big to fit through the hole in the frame. I had to cut maybe 1/8" off one side. Other than that you need to have a little patience in fishing the wire down through the frame. The first one took me at least 20-30 minutes and some serious words. The second one went though the first try and took 2 minutes. This receiver is bigger than is needed for my Jeep but it keeps the hitch the same size as our truck and as long as I don't try to pull 4000LBS with it, oversize won't hurt. It was only $20 more for the 2". All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and with etrailer.52440

I received the hitch in about 3 days, and it came with all hardware and instructions. It advertised 30 minute installation, so I was somewhat skeptical. However, mine was for a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, and it fit perfect. The installation took me about 20 minutes. It looks and functions great. I am well pleased. The holes on the hitch did not line up with the holes in the frame, not sure if his is because I have an extended bed on the vehicle or not. Was easy to drill four holes and finish the mount. This was an easy install and the time that it took was less than that estimated, even with drill new holes. I would suggest to everyone to watch the install videos first, as they give some great pointers.42937

I had quite a problem getting off the bolt holding on the tow hook, the one farthest forward held on with a nut with a tab on it ...which bent around the nut and kept turning, I had to use a hacksaw to cut the bolt head off. Other than that, the hitch bolted on with no other problems. Your map showing where the hitch was during delivery is great....the best I have ever seen. Great hitch ...fast delivery. 2002 X21448
