Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87451 on a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country. OK, we are underneath the vehicle and we are looking at the passengers side frame rail. As you can see, the exhaust is in the way of right where we are going to need to get the hitch up into position, so the first thing we are going to need to do is go ahead and lower it down. To do that, we are going to take it off of its main hanger, which is right here. And now, with the exhaust down, I can kind of pull it out of the way. You can see here above the exhaust here we have got one, two existing bolts. We are going to remove those and actually reuse those for the installation. Looking at the drivers side, we are actually going to be using three attaching points. And again, the bolts for those are already in the frame: here, here and here.
Now that we have got all the bolts removed, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. Over here on the passengers side, you want to make sure when you put the hitch up that you avoid the AC line here. It might be necessary to slide the hitch a little bit behind the AC line here. You want to make sure that definitely do not have the AC line in between the hitch and the frame. Now that we have got the bolts up into position, we can go ahead and torque them down. You want to check with your directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. With all the bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure we go ahead and put our exhaust back up on its hanger, and our installation will be complete. And that will conclude the installation of hitch part number 87451 on a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country.

Fairly easy to install and looks nice...works great. NOTE: Before re-installing the exhaust bolts, make sure there's some room between the muffler and the hitch, otherwise it will make a horrid sound when you start the engine as the muffler vibrates against the newly installed hitch, and then you'll have to shut off the engine, look around underneath the rear of the vehicle, and then realize that you need to loosen the exhaust bolts and hold the muffler off to the side a little while re-tightening them. :)10203

We ordered this for a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and I highly recommend it. From the time I ordered this product, I received great communication from etrailer. I ordered my items on on Monday and needed it for a trip the following weekend. I received an email that the items would ship within 7 days which worried me as I was shipping it ground and would need time to install it. Very well made and relatively easy to install. Couple of the bolts on the car were difficult to remove. The wiring harness was a perfect fit. Running the wire to the battery was a pain when you have to lay under the car.Realy would be better done on a lift. Delivery was fast. Excellent tracking. The hitch arrived in a reasonable amount of time for the standard shipping. I have two negatives, however. I used the factory wiring harness as my vehicle was still under waranty and had the dealer install the hitch. The first negative is that there isn't a place to install the light plug on the hitch so it is not installed very solidly. The second, isn't really about the hitch, it is about the American flag that I purchased to go in the receiver when I am not pulling anything. I will not fit in my vehicle as the receiver is too far back the flag hits before going in. The price was competitive and the dealer didn't hit me too hard for the hitch installation.11445

Great Hitch, Installation OK First of all eTrailer got this hitch to ne within 3 days, that was very impressive!!! Trailer hitch installation was not as fast as they say, it took me about 1 hour or so. I have a 2010 Grand Caravan and 4 out of the 5 bolts where no problem, the last one was a bit tricky. I was a heavy equipment mechanic for 10 years to give you an idea of my skill. The hitch is very well hidden, but to get a ball mount in and out is a bit difficult, but not horrible. Quaility of the hitch is very nice. I had a Hidden Hitch on my 3/4 ton truck for over 10 years w/o any problems, and I towed a 28 foot travel trailer allot with it. Bottom line, great hitch, installation a bit tougher than expected, but not horrible. I would suggest someone who is not mechanically inclined to have someone install it.2781

Very easy to install I haven't towed anything yet, but it seems very Ridgid and I expect it will work just fine. However I am a little concerned with how close to the bumper and paint the 2" opening is I'd guess less than a 1/4" clearance. I will be looking around for some sort of protector to prevent paint chipping and/ or scratches. 79070

I was thrilled to receive the package in a reasonable time with free shipping. I found myself victim of my own poor foresight however. In order to comfortably install the hitch, I used a few jack stands while already parked on an incline. I can only speculate that having the vehicle so uneven caused the frame and the body to shift after removing the bolts. I managed to realign the frame and body by feeding a screwdriver through the hitch, frame and body weld nuts(in that order)while beginning the second of the larger bolts with the other hand. Also, I found it necessary to remove all three exhaust hangers to get enough clearance for this "DIY" procedure. Other than that, my torque wrench only goes to about 85 ft/lb accurately (but I'm confident it will hold.) Thank you etrailer.com for a great product and instructional videos. 63138

Installed on a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country (stow and go). Delivery was fast and everything fitted perfectly. If you are installing it without lifting the vehicle it is kind of difficult because of the muffler. The muffler brace by the passenger rear wheel is easy to get to but the 2nd brace in is impossibile to reach without lifting the vehicle. I took off the first brace and then had to pry the muffler out of my way while I removed the hitch mounting bolt and then again when I installed the hitch. I would highly recommend the product. 60498

I wrote yesterday in my problem that I'm so big I could not get under my van. This morning I took it to the local shop. I told him what I wanted and even told him how to do it. (He was inpressed that I knew). took him from the time I got there till I was leaving was 40min. Took time to pay him. He had no problems with the whole thing. Going in I knew I would have to have someone install it. Because of the weight and size of the hitch, the mech needed a bit of help,to position the hitch and start the bolts, and, due to the need to string the power wire under chassis, it had to be done on a lift. Installation of the hitch went quick. The wiring took a little longer and was not as easy to string between driver and pass sides as the video portrayed. The total job took about 2-1/2 hrs (unpack to out the door) Next time I am sure it would be a bit, but not much, quicker. The packaging was a beat up when the shipment arrived, however everything was OK inside the box.51142

Great product. Fit nicely. As other comments said, the exhaust just needed to be loosened to slide unit into place. Have someone around to help maneuver the unit and put it into place. No Problems except that to torque the right rear big bolt i had to remove the right rear tire. At first I was very concerned, as the package was extremely damaged in shipment by UPS; however, once we opened the box, we found no damage to the hitch or the wiring harness. It's a little harder to install laying on your back under the car, compared to having the car on a lift, but everything lined up perfectly and the instructional video was right on. I didn't realize that Chrysler had gone metric, so it helped to have checked that ahead of time and found out what metric sockets were needed.38747

the hidden hitch was an easy install, no trouble at all. the wiring on the other hand was a little more complicated due to the fact that the green wire from the drivers side to the passenger side was about 10 inches to short (could not get enough wire up to plug the rear tail lights in, passenger side tail lights), I tried everything I knew how to do as far a running the wire from one side to the other and the only thing I could do was to splice the line and add some wire (about 10 inches). after than I ran the black wire to the battery (plenty long enough here) installed the fuse and checked out the system and it works great. the trailer lights worked as they should. all in all it was an easy job but add a little more green wire to the wiring kit. thanks Harold Dudley38526

We recived the Hidden Hitch in the time you stated. My husband and friend installed it, and the wireing. My husband was very happy, it went on just as easy as you showed. The U.P.S. driver that delivered the hitch said thay had ordered things from etrailer before and were always satified. That statement made us feel more at ease. Again thank you. Installation was a breeze, especially withe the online videos. I have but one comment to make, however. I was able to install this by myself with the use of a floor jack and jack stands, but it should be noted that on the 2012 Chrysler Town and Country, you need to remove 3 exhaust hangers to provide the access to the passenger side body bolts. Although the installation did not go as fast as demonstrated in the video, it was a fairly simple one. I did not have a vehicle lift to use so I relied on a floor jack and jack stands. I am very please with the quality of the hitch and look forward to using it many for years. The ball mount seems of good quality and I like that the interchangeable ball and case was included with it. I also bought the American Flag hitch cover but it does not fit my van. The bumper is too close to the receiver and the cover is too large to work. I was especially please with the customer service. I was notified when the order was received, processed, and shipped. I was even notified that it had been delivered. More companies should give this kind of service!!!35994

The video instructions on line and the written instructions provided with the kit were great. Package arrived promptly and in good condition. The only issue of slight concern is with the wiring harness -- the green wire that extends across to the passenger side tail light is BARELY long enough. One to two more feet would be nice to be able to route the wire without having to find the absolute shortest route. There's a bit more tension on the green wire around corners than what I prefer. I could cut and splice it longer I guess.27260

I ordered a Hidden Hitch trailer hitch (fourth one) from these guys late one Saturday morning. The package arrived on Tuesday! Lightening fast service, good video help support on the website, and friendly representatives who email-confirm every step of the ordering/shipping process: what's not to like? My whole family orders from etrailer and all of us strongly recommend it. Regarding the product, the trailer hitch is great...very discrete and well-hidden, but the recommended wire harness was more troublesome installing in a Dodge Caravan '08 than the previous three I installed on other vehicles. Installation tip for '08 Caravan: be sure to have a breaker bar with a 10" socket extention to remove the existing bolts (this hitch uses the bolts already on the car).26853

The Hidden Hitch 87451 was a snap to put in. The product is great. The instructions and video were excellent. Installation took 30 minutes using car ramps. I installed it on a brand new 2011 Town and Country. I highly recommend remove three exhaust hangers instead of two for ease of installation. Making installation even easier. Shipping was fast although packaging is poor. Not made for UPS ground employees throwing it around. Would highly recommend this product and etrailer. Thanks again25599

I recieved my Hidden Hitch, receiver, ball, and wiring package from etrailer.com in days from my order. The enclosed instructions were good, but I did check out the etrailer.com installation videos online. I installed the hitch and wiring, by myself, on a Saturday afternoon. For my Grand Caravan, I had to drop 3 (under rear, at rear axle, near middle of car) exhaust hangers to lower exhaust enough to easily install the hitch. The torque settings for the hitch bolts are included in the enclosed instructions - no guessing, so you can pull your toys with confidence. This is the second hitch I have ordered from etrailer.com (got new car) - both came with great instructions. I had just recently had somebody run into my truck that I was going to use to pull a trailer for our family vacation. It seemed that our vacation was ruined as I called around to rent a truck and it was very expensive to rent 1 with a tow hitch. I went online on a Wednesday night to etrailers.com to try and get a tow hitch package for our van. I then called them just to make sure I would get what I wanted in time. I talked to a ver nice lady in sales named Katie H. She told me that she would try to get the shipment out that evening for delivery on Friday. The video showed exactly how the hitch is installed, and when I did mine there were no suprises. Instructions were great, and it gave me good peace of mind to know that there is a tech support number I could call if I needed it. This is the second trailer hitch that I have put on a vehicle and this is definitely a two man job because of how heavy it was and the fact the muffler was right there. Even with the removal of the two bolts holding the muffler up, one person had to hold the trailer hitch up and the other person had to bolt it up while holding the muffler out of the way. Other than that, it was a simple and easy job.19581
