Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Chrysler Town and Country - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2005 Chrysler Town and Country well be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87719. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Now, we can go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 3 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12-1/4 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier.

Now lets go ahead with the installation. First step to installing our hitch, well actually be removing some manufacturers hardware. Well be removing a 12-mm bolt just forward of the rear spring shackle. Well also be removing the outer two bolts of the rear spring shackle. There are a total of three bolts in this position.

Well only be removing the outer two. Well repeat the same process on the passengers side. Now with all our fasteners removed, well hang on to those fasteners as well be using them to install the hitch. Now is a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while you install the fasteners. When installing the hitch, well first take the drivers side feed it up over the new spring and push it towards the back of the axle.

This will allow us to take the passengers side and feed it up there into position. Then well bring both sides back towards the fastening points then use our hardware to secure the hitch. Now with our fasteners installed well go ahead and tighten them down. With all our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. All right, with all our fasteners torqued to specifications that will complete the install of our Hidden Hitch part number 87719 on our 2005 Chrysler Town and Country..

2005 Chrysler Town & Country

The Hidden Hitch Installs Great! I have a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country with Stow N Go Seating. I chose the class III 2" Hidden Hitch brand so the rear of the van would have a hitch that looked nice and was not bulky. The installation instructions that came with it was very easy to understand. I installed the hitch by myself while laying on the ground without jacking up the van. The bolt holes lined up easily and were all cut to fit perfectly. I was very surprised by how easy it was to install. I would highly recommend the Hidden Hitch product for this application. The hitch really looks great on the back of the van. (If you are installing it by yourself, no need to even jack the van up. Installing from the ground works fine.) 3701

The "hidden hitch" fit just right. With the help of my son, it took just about an hour to install. All the parts were there and the instructions were easy to follow. The wiring harness worked fine. I would recommend your equipment to others. Thank You!! 160468

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan with 3.8 Liter V6 Engine
  • According to the owners manual I viewed online for the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan, if you have the 3.8 liter engine the gross trailer weight capacity at most is 1,800 pounds and 180 pounds tongue weight. This is with 2 people in the van and luggage. With 3 to 5 people and luggage the capacity goes down to 1,350 pounds and 135 pounds tongue weight. And with 6 to 7 people and luggage it goes down to 1,000 pounds gross trailer and 100 pounds tongue weight. I recommend verifying by checking your...

  • Trailer Towing Capacity of 2005 Chrysler Town & Country Touring Edition
  • I have done some research, and have found that the tow capacity of your 2005 Chrysler Town & Country is 3700 lbs. You will want to check in your owners manual to confirm the towing capacity. Also, it is important to remember that your towing capacity is limited by the lowest rated component in the towing system, including: vehicle, hitch, ball mount, hitch ball or the capacity of your trailer. To complete your towing system, you might be interested in the following: Trailer wiring...

  • What Trailer Hitch Will Fit On A 2007 Grand Caravan With Stow-N-GO Seating
  • You will need the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 87719, which will work on the 2007 Dodge Caravan with Stow-N-GO seating. It is a Class III hitch and has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. with a tongue weight of 350 lbs. On the 2007 Dodge Caravan with Stow-N-GO seating the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 87717, that you have referenced will not work. Also needed is a Draw-Tite Ball Mount, # 2923, a Pin and Clip, # PC3, and a hitch ball. The hitch ball you need will depends on the size...

  • Difference Between Hidden Hitch # 87719 and Curt # 13389 Class III Hitch on 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • The differences between the Hidden Hitch Class III Hitch, # 87719, and the Curt Class III Hitch, # 13389, are very minimal. The Hidden Hitch, # 87719, is going to sit approximately 11-3/4 inches from the top of the receiver to the ground. The Curt Hitch, # 13389, is going to sit approximately 12-1/4 inches from the top of the receiver to the ground. The benefit to this hitch is that it installs in about half of the time as the other. If you are in need of a 4 bike rack, I recommend...

  • Lets start with the hitch. If you would only be using the hitch as an attachment point for a bike rack, and cannot foresee ever towing a trailer or needing a hitch mounted accessory like a cargo tray like part # 63153, a trunk or hatch mounted rack would be an excellent choice. Since a trunk mount rack is typically not left in place when not being used, you will want to choose the rack that is easiest to install and remove. • What is the Difference Between the Draw-Tite 75305 and Hidden Hitch 87719 for a 2007 Grand Caravan
  • Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch are sister companies. They share a lot of their designs, so really, there is not much difference between the Draw-Tite # 75305 and the Hidden Hitch 87719. On some hitch models, sometimes the Draw-Tite finish is a bit glossier, but these two should be about the same.

Stow-N-Go was not available until 2005. There are 6 models of hitches for the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan with Stow-N-Go seating (see link). The rear bumper will not need to be removed for installation. Drilling is also not required. The hitch is installed using existing bolts and weld nuts on the vehicle. • Necessity of Using Lift or Jack Stands to Install Receiver Hitch on 2005 Dodge Caravan
  • Using a lift is certainly the most convenient way to go, but is not absolutely necessary. When I installed the hitch on my van, I did not need to raise the vehicle at all. Since the Hidden Hitch part # 87719 needs to be manipulated around the leaf springs as shown in the animation on the installation video, having the vehicle on jack stands or ramps would make your installation easier. The hitch I would recommend is the Hidden Hitch Class III 2-Inch Hitch, part # 87719. This hitch has a gross towing weight capacity of 3,500 lbs. First you need to consider the towing capacity of the vehicle itself or the gross trailer weight capacity listed for the vehicle. Additionally, Chrysler has a frontal area maximum that the trailer can have. They say that the front of the trailer cannot exceed 40 square feet.
