Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

At we're committed to the products we sell, and to our customers. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff are available via both phone and email to address your questions and concerns for the lifetime of your hitch. Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Today we will be installing Draw-Tite part number 24756, which also coincides with Hidden Hitch part number 60815. This will be going on a 2008 Chevy HHR. Here are a couple of measurements to think about when considering buying your hitch. From the center pin to the outermost point on the bumper is 5-1/2 inches. And from the top of the receiver to the ground, on this particular vehicle, is 10 inches. This will help you when ing accessories for your new hitch. Next we are going to move on to the installation. 0:43

Our first step is going to be to lower our muffler. We have three hangers that we are going to want to hit with a penetrating oil to loosen them to make them easier to come off. There is one near the axle, you have one on the passenger side or almost the center of the muffler, and then you have one on the driver side that is hidden by the muffler. There are a total of three hangers to remove to the muffler down. Now for removal of the hangers, I like to use a large screw driver or pry bar, or sometimes a pair of channel locks will work also. Our next step is to enlarge this hole with a drill bit and drill to make it large enough to put in our fastener which is a 1/2 inch carriage bolt. We are going to do that for both sides before we begin our installation. Let me check our hole size by simply seeing if our carriage bolt will fit through. So we are good on the driver side. Let us move to the passenger side. We will check our hole. And now that our carriage bolts will fit down through our sub frame, we can mount our hitch. 2:00

Now we are going to go ahead and fish our wire through the channel. Now we are going to go ahead and slide our block through our fish wire, which is going to hold our carriage bolt and be our new fastener. Feed your block up through the hole first and then pull your carriage bolt through. This will install your rear most fastener. Now we are going to go ahead and install our forward most mount. We will do this the same way. Now our forward most mount is installed on the passenger side. We can take our fish off. We will do the same thing for the driver side. Now is the best time to get a friend because we are going to install the hitch. We are going to be installing the hitch with conical washers, the notches will face the bottom of the vehicle, and then fasteners and nuts. You want to slide the muffler side of your hitch in first. And I like to fasten the passenger side first. I like to put a little side pressure on the bolt to help hold it in place while threading on the nut. You can see we are hand tight on the passenger side. We will do the same thing for the driver side. 3:51

Once we have all four of our mounting bolts hand tightened, you are going to go check your instructions and tighten down to the recommended torque specs. We are going to repeat the same process on the driver side. OK, now that we have all four tightened to torque specifications, we can reinstall our muffler. I like to start with the driver side rear first because it is the most difficult. Alright, that covers our driver side. Now we have one towards the axle and we have one in the very rear on the passenger side I am going to do next. Now we get the one near the axle. Now that we have our muffler reinstalled, this completes the installation of Draw-Tite part number 24756, Hidden Hitch part number 60815.

This is one great product. It arrived quickly, looks great ,was built strong and was a snap to install. It took my buddy and I about an hour to do the installation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend E Trailers to anyone. 9240

This product is great! Installed it with in an hour. The video was a great feature, eazy to follow. Can't wait to use it hauling my tent trailer to the beach. I also puchased the wire harness. Now that was a snap to install, took about 15 mintues. 12100

My Draw-Tite hitch was shipped promptly and arrived in good condition. The video instructions were about all I needed to perform this installation on my 2011 HHR. I'm 66 years old and not as nimble or strong as I used to be but I installed the hitch by myself in about 90 minutes. I used a floor jack on the driver's side to raise the body a couple of inches and the HHR's scissor jack to hold the hitch in place while I installed the washers and nuts. I'm very pleased with this purchase! 65586

Product is great! Installation instructions suck! The job that you claim takes 40 minutes took me about three hours. I am an experienced mechanical engineer with many years of machine design under my belt, have worked on cars all my life and own every tool known to man. It still was a difficult project. You might include the ball mount and maybe a ball. Even at additional cost--these items are necessary. 172483

A ball mount is included with the Hidden Hitch and Curt 1-14 inch hitches. We sell the Draw-Tite 1-1/4 inch without a ball mount for those looking to save a few dollars when they will only be using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier. Trailers in this weight range may use a 1-7/8 or a 2 inch ball so bundling a ball may not be useful.

Wow. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I only regret having waited so long to do this. The price was small. The part came inside of three days, fit exactly, and was in place in less than an hour. I did this alone, but here's my advice. Watch the video. Raise your car a bit so you fit under it, and have a friend help if you can because its heavy and awkward. But if you are thinking about it, just do it! 92328

Great product Fantastic shipping time to SC. Two Days. Everything I ordered came in one box in perfect condition. Watched video and read instructions. Did install exactly to the letter of the instructions, and install went perfect. Install time was about 35 minutes. Wiring harness took about maybe 40 minutes. Works perfect, again no problems. Strongly recommend products. 3223

Went on with out a lift using jack stands in about 45 minutes. Fairly easy install. Well constructed and should serve light trailer duties and bike rack usage very well. Note: If you are ordering this it comes with a 1/2" wire feeder so don't order one! etrailer, great job of communicating and very fast shipping!!! Thanks! 17102

Does the hitch come in one pieces or 3 pieces ?

comment by: wolf - 03/17/2014

This hitch, part # 24756
Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4"
, is all one piece. The flanges are already welded to the cross tube. The hardware will be in a bag that is usually wrapped to the hitch.

First thing first i order this late on a friday night and it was at my door in like three day after thats just great. I also liked the fact of how very easy it was to install on my 2008 HHR had it done in 30 min. I would like to thank you for the update emails and look forward to buying more things soon. As advertised. I just installed the Draw Tite hitch on my Chevy HHR by myself while it sat on the garage floor. Took two hours, and that includes gathering tools and trips to the basement to get stuff. Installation of the hitch and wire harness went, well, without a hitch. Appreciate the installation videos too. Highly recommend etrailer. 3445

by: Bob M.05/07/2011

installed in less than an hour, half the price of any competitor in our area (wi). I did this alone no assistance from wife or kids. Only suggestion that is not listed in the instruction is to remove all the exhaust hangers not just the 3 and ream out both back holes, not just the one. GREAT PRODUCT! 13039

by: Stephen S.01/03/2012

This hitch seems well built and fit with no problems. Just needed to raise the drivers side of the HHR to get a good angle to slip the hitch in above the muffler (muffler supports removed as instructed). Note that I installed it with no help. A lift and a friend would have made the install a breeze. 29039

This is a well constructed hitch. Because of the 40 plus lbs weight of the hitch it is best installed by two people. The installation couldn't be any easier. The only way is to have a hitch professionally installed at over twice the price. installation time was under a half hour. I couldn't be happier. 12174

Everything was great ! The hitch arrived earlier than I had expected it would and it installed much easier than I was anticipating ... The only downside being that I way over budgeted the beer I was going to need for the job ... fortunately the TV and March madness saved the day ;) 75034

Easy to install but not hidden This product is easy to install and requires minimal time and tools. Did need to buy a 1/2 inch drill bit to finish drilling out holes but installation took less than 1 hour. Non factory threaded pin worked well with no noisy rattling and a snug fit. 1161

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Differences Between Trailer Hitch Receivers for a 2008 Chevrolet HHR LT1
  • We currently offer 3 different Class I hitches available for your 2008 Chevy HHR LT1. There are a few differences among them. The Hidden Hitch, part # 60815, includes a draw bar, pin and clip, and therefore would be a better choice for towing. The Draw-Tite hitch, part # 24756 does not include a draw bar, and would be a better choice for an attachment point for a bike rack. The hitches themselves are pretty much identical, they share the same weight rating and both would install in the...

  • Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2011 Chevy HHR

I have included a link to the available trailer hitches for a 2011 HHR for you. All of the hitches available for a 2011 HHR are Class I hitches that have a 1-1/4 inch receiver. If you are going to use the hitch just for hitch mount accessories like a cargo carrier, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite hitch # 24756. This hitch does not require the use of a...

According to my contacts, as long as it is an SS model, all the hitches that fit the Supercharged models will also fit the Turbo models. • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Ball Mount for a 2009 Chevy HHR
  • The trailer hitch I recommend is the Draw-Tite Class I # 24756 and Draw-Tite ball mount # 3594 because the top of the receiver to the ground is 10-1/4 inches and the ball mount will give you a 4-inch rise. As a result, giving you a 14-1/4 inch ground clearance and stay above the 13-1/2 inches. The weight will bring the clearance down a tad from the 14-1/4 inch clearance which will keep your trailer more level. The wiring for your 2009 Chevy HHR is # 118407 and 1-7/8 hitch ball is # 19256.

  • Does the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for a 2009 Chevy HHR Come with Trailer Wiring
  • The Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 24756, does not come with a wiring harness, ball mount, hitch pin and clip, or ball. All of those items would have to be purchased separately. I recommend going with the Hidden Hitch model, # 60815. This hitch comes with the ball mount, hitch pin and clip. For a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. For trailer wiring, use # 118407. I have included links to the installation instructions for the hitch and wiring for you.

However due to the very limited weight capacity of the Class I receiver, both the hitch and bicycle rack manufacturers all agree that any bike rack used on a Class I receiver should not be used to carry any more than two bikes. You will need to find a bike carrier with a distance that is greater than 5-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to...

  • Which Class I Ball Mount to Use with Draw-Tite Hitch # 24756 for 4-Inch Rise on 2008 Chevrolet HHR
  • Draw-Tite hitch # 24756 is a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch that installs in your 2008 Chevrolet HHR without need to drill any new holes on the car's frame. It requires use of a compatible Class I ball mount # 3594 which offers a 4-inch rise. With this ball mount you can use 1-7/8-inch hitch ball # 19256. If you refer to the linked photo you'll see the mount's dimensions. This 10-inch-long ball mount will provide both enough clearance at your bumper and the required 4-inch height...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2011 Chevrolet HHR
  • I would recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24756 for your 2011 Chevrolet HHR. This trailer hitch is rated Class I and has a max tongue weight of 200 pounds. Draw-Tite's Class I trailer hitch will work well for carrying a bike rack. I have attached an installation video of this hitch on a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The hitch is competitively priced with other Class I trailer hitches for your HHR. One reason I recommend this Draw-Tite trailer hitch over the comparably priced Curt Class...

  • Is there an Adapter to Use Class II Accessories with a Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Chevy HHR
  • The issue is not exactly the depth of the receiver but the stop that is punched into it, see picture. This stop does not allow the use of Class II accessories as a safety precaution to keep users from overloading a Class I trailer hitch. I can sell you an adapter that will work with the Class I hitch, # HTAD, but it will expand the receiver from a 1-1/4 inch to a 2 inch and you still would not be able to use the Class II accessories. Also, the use of an adapter will reduce the tongue...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Chevy HHR
  • Curt and Draw Tite are not the same company. Curt is it's own company whereas Draw Tite is made by Cequent which also makes Reese, Hidden Hitch, and Pro Series hitches. They are all great brands that I would feel comfortable recommending for your 2001 Chevy HHR, but for your vehicle I would go with the Draw Tite part # 24756 since it has the most positive reviews over all of the other hitches available. Plus, if you were to use a non-supported hitch accessory like a bike rack you wouldn't...

  • Will Kuat Bike Rack B202-114 Fit on a 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS Coupe
  • The clearance for bike rack # B202-114 is going to be 10-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar on the bike rack. To determine if this rack would have enough clearance to fit on your 2007 Chevy Cobalt, I recommend measuring from your hitch pin hole to a point past your bumper and any other items that might interfere with the bike rack installation. If this measurement is less than 10-1/2 inches, the Kuat bike rack would work well for your application. If...
