Today on our 2013 Chevrolet Equinox we'll be installing the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch, part number 90145. Here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements and helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 4 1/2". From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 14 1/4". Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. Let's begin here by pointing out our mounting locations.
We'll be using 2 existing weld nuts on each side of the vehicle's frame. Here's our existing weld nuts here on the driver's side. There's 1 there and then 1 just above it. Here in the center we'll be using this hole here and this hole here. Before we can put our hitch up into place, we're going to go ahead and clean out those 4 existing weld nuts using a 1/2" nylon tube brush, part number 814092, and a little bit of spray lubricant.
It's a good idea once clean out the existing weld nuts to take 1 of the bolts that we'll be using and make sure it threads in easily. Next we're going to need this center fascia piece. This little door will come off for the install. To do that, we'll go ahead and take a pair of pliers, squeeze the little tab right here, and gently pull downward. Go ahead and repeat the same process over here on the driver's side. Once we have the 2 tabs released, we can go ahead and pull the whole panel out of the way.
We need to get these 2 pieces here the 1/2" carriage bolt and the square hole spacer block into the rear bumper structure and have it pull out here. The kit comes with this fish wire or bolt leader. But we found that they're a little bit short in order to feed them in from the end of the bumper structure. To do this, we're just going to use a round file on our drill and open this hole up right here just a little bit. It'll give us access to insert this bolt as well as this bolt over here. Now it's large enough for our square hole spacer block to fit in as well as to feed our carriage bolts into position.
To do that, we will still use the fish wire or bolt leader to install our hardware. We'll go ahead and start by taking the coiled end going through our hole, pulling it back out the hole we just enlarged, and then slide our square hole spacer block by on followed by our 1/2" carriage bolt. Then feed our spacer block up into position. Then go ahead and pull down, pulling our carriage bolt into position as it pulls through the spacer block and out the hole. Now we'll go ahead and repeat the same process over here for the second hole at the center location. For the existing weld nuts the 2 on each side we'll be using an M12 hex bolt as well as a 1/2" inch conical tooth washer. Going to make sure that the teeth on the washer are facing towards the hitch when installed so it'll slide on the bolt just like that. For the center 2 locations, we've already got our 1/2" carriage bolt and spacer blocks installed, so we'll again be using a conical tooth washer. But this time we'll be using a 1/2" hex nut. It'll go on like this and then followed by the hex nut. It'll be the same for this location as well as this one. Now it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position. When you're raising the hitch up into position, make sure that you don't push the 2 carriage bolts back up into the bumper structure. Once you have the hitch raised up into position, we'll go ahead and install our M12 bolts with our conical tooth washers on the 4 existing weld nuts followed by putting the conical tooth washers and the hex nut on the 2 center mounting locations. Now that we have all of our hardware loosely installed, we'll go ahead and make sure that the hitch is lined up how we want it. Then we'll tighten down the 2 center bolts first. Then we'll move over to the bolts on each side. With all the hardware tightened down, we'll then go ahead and torque it to the manufacturer's specification. As you can see here, this rear fascia cover will not go back into position with the hitch installed. I know that the directions say that you can reinstall this on the Equinox. But as you can clearly see, it will not go back into position. When you pull this piece right here off, you can just set it aside as it will not be reinstalled with this hitch. That'll do it for our installation of the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch, part number 90145, on our 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. .

The hitch did not fit perfectly. I had to hammer the ends of the brackets to fit over the frame rails of the cold. After doing that, the hitch fit fine and bolts went in and hitch was secured. Some of the paint was also chipping off the hitch upon delivery. Overall, the function of the hitch will not be affected. Hidden Hitch is a well respected brand, and when I do tow with this hitch, i expect it to do its job, worry free. 8101

I purchased this hitch receiver for a 2013 GMC Terrain. Installation is very simple but the included thread wire is short. It is 24 inches from the bumper frame opening to the bumper bolt location. There are 2 openings much closer but the hardware is too big to fit through them. Have a piece of bailing wire (some what rigid) handy and this is easily remedied. The fascia cover needs to be removed as with the Equinox but it cannot be replaced after installation. It took me 20 minutes on my back in the cold and looks like a factory installed part. Excellent fit and application, perfect for a do it yourselfer. 67618

Nice hitch and seems easy to put on ('07 Pontiac Torrent). A warning though - those nice holes in the frame w/ welded nuts can get pretty rusted in 3-4 years. I've been working on cleaning them out for over a week now. And the hitch doesn't come with the tube brush that is used in the instructions (not that it would help - I've ruined 4 brushes already). I'd recommend buying the proper bolt and testing out the threads on the frame before purchase. Otherwise, the hitch fits nicely and was received very shortly after purchase. 21460

I purchased the 1 1/4" Hidden Hitch for my daughter's 2012 GMC Terrain. LOVE IT!!! Saved me over 200.00 compared to same part from our local GM Dealer. The e-trailer hitch arrived in 4 days, and was super easy to install!! (Did it myself and saved another 50.00!) Like most of the reviews I read before my purchase, the shipping box was damaged and the "arms" of the hitch bar were protruding from the box. But, no damage to the equipment and everything went together like a charm! 127948

Can't install per directions A nice hitch that fit into place fine, but it is impossible to install per the provided directions and the pull wire provided. The pull wire was too short and too flimsy to even feed the heavy bolt - resulting in the bolt getting lost inside the bumper. This was frustrating to say the least. I was able to complete the job using an electrician's fish tape. The electrical hookup was easy, but the hitch was a real pain! 398

On the 2011 Equinox you do not have to fish any nuts or washers the nuts are all welded on the inside of the frame. if you are working alone get some blocking or a small jack to hold the hitch in place wwhile you thread all the bolts loosley, after they are all in place tighten to the specificationsprovide with the hitch. total install took 20 minutes everything fit perfectly . 31102

Product arrived very quickly and was exactly as advertised. Website video on installation was very helpful. Hitch went on very smoothly - only time consuming thing was cleaning out the existing car frame weld nuts (6 year old car). However having that done to insure the hitch bolts provided would thread into and tighten properly made the actual hitch install very smooth. 63552

Nice looking hitch 2007 Saturn Vue. I could use longer bolts for the 2 center spots where the bolts are fed through the frame. The feed wires should be 12" longer and need two because the first one gets damaged doing the first bolt. Too bad Saturn doesn't have threaded holes in the frame like they do for the ends. Good paint job by Hidden Hitch and would buy it again. 185

The videos were great in helping us to install the hitch. However, the bolts that were sent with the product were too long and had to be replaced to get the hitch put on securely. The box the unit came in was also destroyed in shipping. The product was not damaged but could have been easily. Overall, the hitch looks great and works, I would purchase it again. 20075

The hitch was easy to install (by myself). I just used my floor jack to support the hitch until I could get the bolts started. These guys know what they're doing!! Five Stars!! 142601

This install was a breeze. One hour by myself including installing the T-connection wiring harness (includes time spent fishing a tail light screw out that I dropped). A product that actually fit with easy to follow instructions for a novice! 68790

Great Product; Great Value We've made three 800 mile round trips with this and it's performed exceptionally well. Even when empty it remains pretty quiet on the road. Thank you! 1389
Great product. Install was easy. Bolted right up on my 2012 GMC Terrain. Had to hammer one of the brackets slightly to make it slide in, but not a problem at all. 38754
