Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Cruze - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, we're going to install part number 60299 from Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like once installed on the car. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out with selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 10 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about 3 3/4 inches. Now we'll show you how the hitch is installed. First thing we need to do is locate the mounting holes. We'll point them out to you.

Use the hole in the frame closest to the bumper and then there's two holes going towards the front of the car that are close together. We'll use the hole that's closest to the front. This will be the same on the passenger side. Now we'll show you how the hardware works with the hitch. There will be a plate or a block that will be ran inside the frame along with a carriage bolt.

We'll pull it through the frame and then down through the hitch. Once it's through the hitch, we'll install a conical tooth washer and nut. When you install a conical tooth washer, you always make sure your teeth are always facing towards the hitch. We're going to show one set of hardware and this will be the same all the way around the hitch. Let's go ahead and install it in the frame. We'll take our bolt leader that comes with the kit and run it through the hole closest to the bumper.

Then we'll run it a larger hole going towards the front of the car. We'll use that for our access. Then we'll run our bolt leader through our block and push it into the frame, then thread our bolt on. Then we'll gently pull it through and out the bottom of the frame up towards the front. We'll take off our bolt leader and then repeat the same process for our next hole going toward the front of the car. We're done with our passenger side, we'll repeat the same process for our driver's side.

Once all our hardware is installed, we can put the hitch up. We'll start off by putting the hitch over top the exhaust. That will hold that side for us while we pick up the other side. We'll take our hitch and push it up towards the bolts, make sure you don't push the bolts into the frame. Then we'll install our conical tooth washer and nut. We'll install the hardware just far enough to help hold the hitch up. We're done with our passenger side, we'll do the same thing again on our driver's side. Once all our hardware is loosely installed, we'll take a moment to take the hitch and move it back and forth and center it on the frame. We'll hand tighten the bolts and then torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. With that, our hitch is already installed. With that, that will finish it for Hidden Hitch, part number 60299 on our 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. .

I ordered the hidden hitch and wiring harness for my 2014 Cruz. The hitch was on in less than 30 minutes after opening the box. Easy install, well thought out design didn't even require lowering the muffler. Wiring kit was a bit more work, but that's to be expected when you must take apart trim and run wires from front of car all the way to the back. Not technically difficult, just a PITA. Excellent fast customer service and good pricing. I am a repeat customer for good reason. Thanks guys! 161146

Ted, we have a 2014 diesel chevy cruz and the def tank seems to be in the way of mounting the hitch. Did you have that problem? If so, how did you mount it?

comment by: David P - 07/07/2014

Ted indicated that the installation was hassle free. None of the installation instructions from our hitch manufacturers mention needing to move the DEF tank to install the hitch on a 2014 Cruze. We have not had any other customers indicate that they have had any issues with the installation, and at this time we have not had the opportunity to install a trailer hitch on a Diesel Cruze.

It took me about fourty minutes and the biggest problem was getting my torque wrench betweem the exahust pipe and the nut to get the torque set correctly. I did the install in my garage without a jack and it worked out very well. The hardware that came with the hitch worked very well and fit as it should. 115161

I was very impressed how easy it was to install. I did it on the ground underneath a diesel chevy cruze. it took approximately 28 minutes I did almost all the work by myself, my girlfriend assisted me with installing the first nut, due to her not being able to crawl under the car beside me. 132327

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Warranty Implications of Installing Receiver Hitch on 2011 Chevy Cruze
  • Installing a hitch on your 2011 Cruze will not have any warranty implications if the hitch is installed as outlined in the instructions and used within the weight bearing capabilities of the vehicle. Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually...

  • How Does the Hidden Hitch # 60299 Mount to a 2011 Chevy Cruze
  • This Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, part # 60299, will bolt to the rear portion of the frame on your 2011 Chevy Cruze. I attached installation instructions for you to check out. If you plan on doing some light towing I would recommend the following products to complete your towing setup: Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118508 (installation instructions attached) Hitch Ball with 2 inch Diameter and Short Shank, part # 19258 Hitch Ball with 1-7/8 inch Diameter and Short...

  • Will Hidden Hitch Class I Hitch # 60299 Fit 2011 Chevy Cruze Without Drilling or Modifications
  • The Hidden Hitch Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 60299, will fit your 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The installation of the hitch will not require any drilling or modification of the vehicles undercarriage. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Hidden Hitch. Since you will be using the hitch for only a hitch bike rack and not for towing, I would recommend to look at the Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24882. This is the same hitch as the # 60299 Hidden Hitch,...

  • Recommendation for Carrying Three 60 lb. Downhill Bikes with a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze
  • I checked with our hitch suppliers and each one says that their hitch will fit all models of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze including the RS model. All of the hitches for the Cruze are Class I hitches and are limited to carrying two bikes only. The reason for this limitation is that the extra torque created by hanging a third bike that far away from the back of the vehicle can cause damage to the bike rack and bikes, hitch or vehicle frame. We do have a solution though. I would recommend...

  • Trailer Hitch and Trailer Wiring for a 2011 Chevy Cruze to Tow a Jet Ski
  • The Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 60299, will bolt to the bottom of your 2011 Chevy Cruze using factory holes in the frame rails. While there is no drilling needed, you might need to enlarge an existing access hole in order to fish the hardware through to bolt on the hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the hitch for you to view. The hitch comes with a ball mount,, pin and clip, so you will just need a ball and trailer wiring to complete the towing set up....

  • Fit of Hidden Hitch Class I Receiver on 2013 Buick Verano
  • According to the folks at Hidden Hitch, when installed on a 2013 Buick Verano, the crossbar of the # 60299 will be almost totally concealed behind the bumper fascia. You can see how the hitch sits in relation to the bumper by taking a look at the cross-section drawing from the installation instructions. The instructions state that the heat shield needs to be lowered or a small hole (approximately 1 inch in diameter) cut into it to allow access to the access hole in the frame member....

  • Recommendations for Carrying a Pride Mobility Scooter with a 2011 Chevy Cruze
  • All of the trailer hitches for the 2011 Chevy Cruze are Class I hitches with a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. The first concern is making sure that the combined weight of a compatible carrier and the mobility scooter does not exceed the 200 pound limit. A 20 inch wide carrier like # 6500 is going to be your best bet. This is the largest carrier that will fit a Class I trailer hitch. The platform is 20 inches wide so you should have just enough clearance. One issue to think about...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 Buick Verano Turbo
  • There is a hitch available for your 2013 Buick Verano Turbo, check out the Curt Hitch part # C11282. I attached an install video for you to check out. With this hitch you can install a Class I rated hitch mounted bike rack, but you will also need to use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050. I attached a review video for you to check out for this product. The most popular hitch bike rack with other Verano owners is the Thule Doubletrack Bike Rack part # TH990XT. I attached a review...

  • Options for Carrying 4 Bikes on a 2014 Chevy Cruze
  • The difference in the shipping weight for the Hidden Hitch part # 60299 and the Curt Hitch part # C11282 that is also a confirmed fit for your 2014 Chevy Cruze is due to the different side bracket plate designs. The Curt hitch has much larger brackets attached to the cross tubes with more material and that is why it weighs about 10 lbs more. All the hitches available for your vehicle are Class I hitches. These hitches are limited to only carrying 2 bikes due to the limited weight capacity...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Chevy Cruze that Provides Smallest Distance from Hitch To Bumper
  • For a hitch that would have the hitch opening as far back towards the rear of your 2014 Chevy Cruze as possible you would want the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24882 as it is confirmed to fit your vehicle and only had a distance of 3-3/4 inches from the hitch pin hole to the rear of the bumper. See install video that I attached. The most popular bike rack we offer that we had a chance to demo on a Cruze just like yours is the Swagman XTC-2 Bike rack part # S64670. See attached video.
