Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Cruze - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2012 Chevy Cruze, well be installing the Hidden Hitch 1-1/4 inch receiver tube hitch, part number 60299. Heres what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next well be going, well go give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 4-1/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 10-1/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier.

Now well go ahead in the installation. Now to begin our install, well first go ahead and point out our attachment points. Well have a total of four attachment points, two on each side. Each attachment point will be bolt into the frame in a pre-drilled hole done by the manufacturer. Now to secure each attachment point, well use a 7/16 carriage bolt and block, along with the 7/16 concrete tooth washer and nut to secure each attachment point. To get our hardware into the frame, well use a 7/16 bolt leader provided with our install kit.

Well take the bolt leader and fit it through the attachment point and out the forward access hole already cut into the frame. Once we have the bolt leader out to the access hole, well slide on the block and thread in our carriage bolt. Well fit the block and bolt into the frame, and then pull them into position. Once in place, well leave the pull wire on, as it will assist with getting our hitch up into position without pushing our hardware back up into the frame. Next well go ahead and repeat the same process for other three attachment points. Now with all the hardware in placed, its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while youre installing your fasteners. As we bring the hitch up into the frame, well take the pull wire and fit it through the attachment points of the hitch, being the hitch up over the exhaust on the driver side.

Once we have the hitch tight to the frame, we can go ahead and remove the bolt leader, install the concrete tooth washer, teeth of the washer facing the hitch, and then the nut. Well go and repeat the same process for the other three attachment points. Now with all our hardware in place, were ready to tight it down. Next well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured, and torque to specifications, were ready to hit the road.

That our complete the install of our Hidden Hitch, part number 60299, on our 2012 Chevy Cruze. .

Ted, we have a 2014 diesel chevy cruz and the def tank seems to be in the way of mounting the hitch. Did you have that problem? If so, how did you mount it?

Ted indicated that the installation was hassle free. None of the installation instructions from our hitch manufacturers mention needing to move the DEF tank to install the hitch on a 2014 Cruze. We have not had any other customers indicate that they have had any issues with the installation, and at this time we have not had the opportunity to install a trailer hitch on a Diesel Cruze.

It took me about fourty minutes and the biggest problem was getting my torque wrench betweem the exahust pipe and the nut to get the torque set correctly. I did the install in my garage without a jack and it worked out very well. The hardware that came with the hitch worked very well and fit as it should. 115161

I was very impressed how easy it was to install. I did it on the ground underneath a diesel chevy cruze. it took approximately 28 minutes I did almost all the work by myself, my girlfriend assisted me with installing the first nut, due to her not being able to crawl under the car beside me. 132327

  • Will Hidden Hitch Class I Hitch # 60299 Fit 2011 Chevy Cruze Without Drilling or Modifications
  • The Hidden Hitch Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 60299, will fit your 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The installation of the hitch will not require any drilling or modification of the vehicles undercarriage. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Hidden Hitch. Since you will be using the hitch for only a hitch bike rack and not for towing, I would recommend to look at the Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24882. This is the same hitch as the # 60299 Hidden Hitch,...

  • Recommendation for Carrying Three 60 lb. Downhill Bikes with a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze
  • I checked with our hitch suppliers and each one says that their hitch will fit all models of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze including the RS model. All of the hitches for the Cruze are Class I hitches and are limited to carrying two bikes only. The reason for this limitation is that the extra torque created by hanging a third bike that far away from the back of the vehicle can cause damage to the bike rack and bikes, hitch or vehicle frame. We do have a solution though. I would recommend...

  • Warranty Implications of Installing Receiver Hitch on 2011 Chevy Cruze
  • Installing a hitch on your 2011 Cruze will not have any warranty implications if the hitch is installed as outlined in the instructions and used within the weight bearing capabilities of the vehicle. Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually...

  • Recommendations for Carrying a Pride Mobility Scooter with a 2011 Chevy Cruze
  • All of the trailer hitches for the 2011 Chevy Cruze are Class I hitches with a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. The first concern is making sure that the combined weight of a compatible carrier and the mobility scooter does not exceed the 200 pound limit. A 20 inch wide carrier like # 6500 is going to be your best bet. This is the largest carrier that will fit a Class I trailer hitch. The platform is 20 inches wide so you should have just enough clearance. One issue to think about...

  • Fit of Hidden Hitch Class I Receiver on 2013 Buick Verano
  • According to the folks at Hidden Hitch, when installed on a 2013 Buick Verano, the crossbar of the # 60299 will be almost totally concealed behind the bumper fascia. You can see how the hitch sits in relation to the bumper by taking a look at the cross-section drawing from the installation instructions. The instructions state that the heat shield needs to be lowered or a small hole (approximately 1 inch in diameter) cut into it to allow access to the access hole in the frame member....

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 Buick Verano Turbo
  • There is a hitch available for your 2013 Buick Verano Turbo, check out the Curt Hitch part # C11282. I attached an install video for you to check out. With this hitch you can install a Class I rated hitch mounted bike rack, but you will also need to use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050. I attached a review video for you to check out for this product. The most popular hitch bike rack with other Verano owners is the Thule Doubletrack Bike Rack part # TH990XT. I attached a review...

  • Options for Carrying 4 Bikes on a 2014 Chevy Cruze
  • The difference in the shipping weight for the Hidden Hitch part # 60299 and the Curt Hitch part # C11282 that is also a confirmed fit for your 2014 Chevy Cruze is due to the different side bracket plate designs. The Curt hitch has much larger brackets attached to the cross tubes with more material and that is why it weighs about 10 lbs more. All the hitches available for your vehicle are Class I hitches. These hitches are limited to only carrying 2 bikes due to the limited weight capacity...
