Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Chevrolet Camaro - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2010 Chevrolet Camero, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the draw tite sportsframe trailer hitch receiver. This is a custom fit, class one hitch, offering an inch and a quarter by an inch and a quarter opening. Part number is 24850. Here's our hitch when installed. As you can see we're going to have our receiver tube opening and it's going to come out here, but aesthetically that's really all we're adding to the rear of the vehicle. Our cross tube's going to remain hidden. It goes up to already existing attachment points just like up there in the front, so no drilling or anything like that's going to be required. This is a class one hitch, so this gives us an inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter opening.

This hitch is really designed for small two bike racks, small cargo carriers, or small trailers. We've got our safety chain connection point here. This is a rolled steel style material. Then we're going to have a half inch diameter pin hole. That's what we'll use to secure all of our accessories with.

We want to be sure that we use a class one rated accessory, but as you can see here, it looks like we're going to have plenty of room to use just about any type of locking hitch pin, regular hitch pin, or anti-roll device that we might choose. When it comes to towing or hauling bike racks and things like that, we're limited to a two hundred pound tongue weight rating, so that's the maximum downward force that we'll be able to put here at the receiver tube opening. The hitch gives us a two thousand pound gross trailer weight rating. It's going to be the total weight of our trailer and anything that we might load up on it. Now, we do need to consult the owner's manual of the Camero. We need to see what it's rated for and then we want to stay with which ever of those numbers are the lowest. There are a couple of measurements that are going to be helpful in selecting your bike rack or hitch cargo carrier.

Will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening. We're going to have about ten inches. Then from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about eight and a quarter. We're going to take a quick look at our attachment points before we get the hitch put up in position. Basically what we're going to do is go directly up from the rear of the, kind of, the tail pipe assembly here on each side. Right up here we're going to have a stud that comes through a weld nut.

Now, as we put our hitch into position, we want it to fit over that weld nut. Now that attachment point's going to be in the exact same spot on each side. You can see here on the passenger's side as well. Then there's going to be an arm that comes off the hitch, and it's going to come right down here to where this transaxle in the rear meets this mount. There's a little oblong hole right there, and we've got our three-eights bolt that will go through our hitch bracket into that, and we'll tighten that down. Now, as we raise our hitch up into position, we want to get it started on one side, and then rotate it around. We'll have to pull down on that fascia just a little bit to get it to slide past. Just like that. Now, while one person holds it in position, the other person will get the hardware started. You'll see right here where that weld nut comes through the hitch, we want to be sure that it sits all the way through that larger hole. We don't want it to be where the plate of the hitch is actually resting on that nut. We want it to be in that larger hole. Then we're going to place on the smaller diameter flat washer and also thread on one of our flange lock nuts. All right, now it's time for us to snug our nut down just enough so it holds our hitch in position over that weld nut. We'll do that on both sides. Here's our forward attachment point, or the attachment point closer to the front of the vehicle. We've got the oblong hole in the hitch and then that small oblong hole here in the bracket which we discussed. You can see we've got three different link bolts here. We want to use the shortest of these that we can to pass through our hitch and then also through that bracket. Then we've got a conical tooth washer that needs to be in place. You'll see just like that. Let's pass this through and see. Close you can see. That spacing looks like it will be okay once we start tightening it down, it's going to move in a little bit, but we've got a little wiggle room. That's the shortest bolt. It happens to be the one I'm using, but your application may be a little different. Now we want to grab some of the larger washers here, and we want to try to take up that space. That's a little bit loose. Now, you may use some, you may use all of the washers. Getting some of the spacer washers put on. Then we want to thread on the larger of the lock nuts, it will be a three-eights lock nut. As you can see our bolt there long enough to pass through the end of the nut, but we still got a gap there before it meets that transaxle. That should be exactly what we're looking for. Now we can look in the instructions, you want to find your torque specifications there, and it's time to go through, and torque all of our fasteners down appropriately. Now with all of our hardware torqued down to specification, that's going to complete our installation of the draw tite sportsframe class one trailer hitch receiver. Part number 24850 on our 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

I realize you put the trailer hitch on even though you had the Ground Effects Package. I also have the Ground Effects Package and I was wondering if you had any problems installing the hitch? It looks like the hitch is pushing up on the bottom piece of the ground effects on the back, is this true?

You are correct it is pushing up on the ground effects. It is barely noticeable when you are behind the car. I plan to paint the lower portion of the ground effects black this winter so the trailer hitch disappears.

Got everything installed over the weekend. Install was straightforward, I had done one previously on my Chrysler 300 before I got my Camaro. Having the wiring kit makes all the difference in the world on these. No shots of it in use yet, haven't got that far, but I did get pics of the car after installation. No problems at all and everything was completed successfully. Appreciate everything that you all did to get it out to me quickly and correctly. 144681

I was very happy with how easy the product installed, and how well made their products are. It took 30 minutes to install the hitch.I was able to watch the installation video before I received my order,so I was prepaired and ready when they arrived.I ordered on the 9th of DEC. and to my surprise I received them on the 11th of DEC. Good job "etrailer" for your excellent customer satisfaction. I will certainly recommend you to others. Thank you and have a great holiday and new year. 233609

Had A friend with a lift and watched the video and the installation was a breeze. WE had it done in 20 mins. I have a Swagman XTC-2 type rack and my mountain bike fits great. The pedal is close to the rear bumper but I don't think it will hit. I just remove my pedals for transport. You cant even tell you have a hitch on the car unless you look very close. E trailer had my order shipped in a few days. Great company. 35721

The hitch went on as advertised, the video was very helpful. Though it took a bit longer, it was installed with the car on the ground. The hardware kit arrived intact, but with no 3/8 nut for the main frame bolt. I called customer support at etrailer, who contacted Drawtite and another hardware kit was shipped to me. Very good customer service from etrailer and drawtite. 212773

Hitch fitted fine only gripe I have is the kit had no nuts to fit the studs on the car. So I had to find nuts and use washers that I had to make it fit. Not really a big deal my shop is full of nuts and bolts 21504

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
  • There are better options available for carrying bikes on your 2011 Camaro. Trunk mount bike racks have been around for a while and are a good, inexpensive option to carry bikes, but like you, many people are weary of using a trunk mount rack because the weight of the bike rack and the bikes is sitting on the trunk and bumper. Bike rack manufacturers test these bike racks and as long as the weight capacity of the bike rack is not exceeded and the bike rack is installed properly, you should...

  • If your 2013 Camaro is not equipped with the factory ground effects package, there are hitches available. For the coupe, the Draw-Tite # 24850 or the Curt # C11122 are available. For the convertible model, Curt offers the # C11222. On the # C11122 Curt specifically states in the instructions that the # 18050 stabilizing strap MUST be used to retain warranty coverage. For the # C11222 hitch, Curt strongly recommends using the strap. In order to avoid needing the strap, I'd recommend...

Check out the install video and instructions I attached to see for yourself. I would consider ordering the hitch from us and just installing it yourself. • factory Bolts on 2011 Chevy Camaro are Too Short to Install Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
  • It sounds like on your 2011 Chevy Camaro you will have to enlarge the high hole diameter using a round file so that the hitch fits over and around the vehicle weldnuts. This is mentioned in the instructions for trailer hitch # 24850 which I have linked for reference. Once the holes are enlarged the hitch should fit better. You can use some spray paint on the hitch after filing the holes larger to help prevent corrosion.

For a rack, it must be compatible with a Class I trailer hitch and with a Class I you are limited to carrying a maximum of 2 bikes. I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. I checked with our wiring manufacturer, Tow Ready and they have verified that the # 118486 trailer wiring will not work on the 2012 Camaro because the connectors were changed by the vehicle manufacturer. If...

  • Hanging Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2011 Chevy Camaro
  • I have a great solution for you, but the 1-1/4 inch hitch you would have on your 2011 Chevy Camaro would be a Class I hitch like the part # 24850 which the Ridgeback is not compatible with. It fits Class II and up. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Roadway 2 part # TH912XTR. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks and this one showed up in nearly everyone's top three. Check out the...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Chevy Camaro SS
  • For your 2014 Chevy Camaro SS the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24850 that you referenced will work. You do not have the ground effects package on your vehicle so you would not need to worry about that. For trailer wiring you would want the part # 56146KIT if you have LED taillights or part # C56197 if you have non-LEDs. For a ball mount you would want the part # 3594, 1-7/8 inch ball # 19256, and/or 2 inch ball # 19258. I attached an install video for the hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Can a Trailer Hitch Installed on a 2010 Chevy Camaro be Used to Tow a SeaDoo
  • The Draw-Tite Class I trailer hitch # 24850 for your 2010 Chevy Camaro has a capacity of 2,000 pound gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight. Provided that the gross trailer and tongue weight of your SeaDoo trailer, loaded and ready to tow, is under those capacities then yes, you can pull the Seadoo with this hitch. Please note the hitch does not fit models with ground effects package. Check the Camaro owners manual to determine if it lists a capacity for the vehicle and go...

  • Hitch and Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2010 Chevy Camaro
  • The ground clearance for the Curt and the Hidden Hitch/Draw Tite hitches are going to be about the same. Both styles of hitch install right below the bumper so they will both have about 10 inches of ground clearance. Hitch accessories will need to have 12 inches from the hitch pin hole to the nearest portion of the rack to be able to clear the bumper though. The Thule T2 part # TH917XTR would be your best option. This rack is very similar to the Kuat and will have enough clearance...

  • Hitch Recommendations for a 2015 Chevy Camaro RS
  • As long as you don't have ground effects we have a hitch that would work well for you. For a coupe 2015 Chevy Camaro you would want the Draw Tite hitch part # 24850. If you have a convertible you would instead want the part # C11222.

  • Does the Draw Tite Hitch 24850 Have Capacity to Tow Jet Ski Trailer
  • The Draw Tite hitch part # 24850 that you referenced has the towing capacities of 2,000 lbs total trailer and 200 lbs tongue weight. Most Jet Ski trailers weigh less than that so as long as the vehicle you plan to install this on has the needed capacity as well you would be good to go. Check the owners manual of the vehicle to determine the towing capacities.

  • Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Chevrolet Camaro with Draw-Tite Hitch # 24850
  • In order to determine which hitch mounted bike rack will work with the Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver, # 24850, on your 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, you will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of your bumper. I have attached an article which demonstrates this process. The Rola TX-102 2-Bike Rack, # 59400, measures 10-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar. In order for this rack to fit on your Camaro, the...

  • Carrying Bikes on a 2010 Chevy Camaro SS with Ground Effects
  • I do have a way that you can carry bikes with your 2010 Chevy Camaro SS with ground effects but there are no trailer hitches that will fit the vehicle. What you can do is use a trunk mount bike carrier such as the Hollywood Racks Expedition # HRF6-2 for 2 bikes or # HRF6-3 for 3 bikes. The bottom straps will probably have to connect somewhere on the frame of the vehicle though. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical...

  • 2015 Camaro SS Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation
  • For your 2015 Chevy Camaro SS we have hitches like the part # 24850 which are confirmed as fits, but none of them have 2 inch openings. 2 inch hitches are only used on larger vehicles that would have higher capacities like trucks and SUVs. You would need to go with a bike rack that is compatible with Class I hitches. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack part # S64670. This rack has a ton of positive reviews from...
