Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Acura RDX - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2015 Acura RDX we're going to take a look at, then show you how to install the Hidden Hitch custom fit class three trailer hitch receiver. It offers a 2" opening. Its part number is 87642. Here's what the hitch is going to look like on your vehicle. As you can see, really nice, clean, simple, not a lot of bars that hang over. The fascia, it just tucks up just a little bit and it's going to sit on top of the hitch. No trimming required.

We're not going to have to modify the vehicle at all to get this hitch on the car. Really easy bolt-in installation. What you'll see: two bolts in the back, two bolts in the front and you're done. In 20-25 minutes you got your hitch on your car. Now this is a 2" by 2" opening hitch. It's a class three.

This is going to offer us 400 pounds of tongue weight capacity and 4,000 pounds of trailer weight capacity, but you will want to look at the RDX's owner manual. Just make sure it can handle that. If not, go off of whatever of those numbers are the lowest. You can see we've got a double hole setup here. That's not for the larger pin there and the smaller pin here.

We're going to use a standard 5/8 hitch pin and clip for any of the hitch accessories. The second hole that we see here, this is going to be for the j-pin stabilization and locking device that we can put in there. It's something nice that they offer on these hitches to help stabilize and give us an extra hole to do that with. Of course black powder coat finish. We're going to have safety chain connection loops on each side.

Over just a really nice, clean looking hitch. Now a few measurements that will be helpful for you when selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier, will be from the ground to the inside top edge of our receiver tube opening we're looking at about 13". From the center of our hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 3. To begin our installation here in the rear vehicle, there are going to be two holes. They're in the very back of the frame right here, and they're threaded, or there's a weld nut. You're going to use your M12 bolt and that's going to threaded right up inside. Have one here on the driver side and in the same location on the passenger side. Now in front of that there's going to be a smaller hole right here. We're also going to a bolt through that by placing a handle nut right over the top through this larger hole, and then threading it in. Now we're going to raise our hitch up into position. As you can see, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands. What we'll do is just guide it up over our exhaust and rotate it to line up that weld nut with the hole in our hitch. One important note is that your conical tooth washer that we've got on our bolt here, that needs to face up towards our hitch, so keep that in mind. Start one there in the passenger side and then we can come over here to the driver side and we'll get this one started. We'll just allow those to support our hitch and get our other hardware going. Now this is the handle nut that we're going to be using. We're going to position this right inside of that larger hole. Then if we turn it slightly you'll see it right above that hole. We'll then take our bolt, stick it right up in there, and threaded it in. We've got that one started. Let's go over and get our other side started. Now this is our 1/2" hardware that we're using here. Just like with our M12s there, we want to be sure that that conical tooth washer is facing in towards our hitch. inaudible 00:04:17 started, let's take a quick look just to be sure we have our hitch centered. Then we can snug down our fasteners. Now let's take care of the passenger side. Now let's look in our instructions, find the torque specifications, and get them all torqued down. Just like that, we're ready to hook up to our trailer or our bike rack and head on down the road. That will complete today's installation of the Hidden Hitch custom fit class three trailer hitch receiver. Its part number is 87642, on our 2015 Acura RDX. .

First off, service from Etrailer was excellent. The hitch shipped quickly and was delivered in a matter of days. As for the hitch itself, I couldn't be happier with the fit. I have a Curt hitch on another vehicle, and had all sorts of problems with the hole alignment with it. With this Hidden Hitch, the hole alignment was perfect. Also, it fit nice and snug up to the bumper of my 2011 Acura RDX, but without bowing the facia out like I had seen in pics of other hitches. My only complaint is the insanely high torque requirement of the screws, 115 ft-lbs for the ones that go into the pre-mounted threaded holes in the vehicle frame! My torque wrench only goes up to 80 ft-lbs, and even if I had a longer wrench, I don't see how I'm going to get the leverage without loosening the facia and using an extension. I know for a fact the hitch I installed on my other vehicle did not require such high torque. Of course, I blame Acura. They spec'd the threads in the frame. Still, it would have been nice to know in advance, as I don't think most DYI folks have a wrench capable of delivering such high torque. 165857

ACURA RDX 2014 AWD I love this website. They answered all my questions with all the details. Hitch it's really high quality and perfectly fit with the car. Set up pretty straight forward nothing complicated. It took me and my 14 year old daugther about 45 minutes to install it. Looks great on the car. It's doesn't look too extractive and work great with THULE rack. 135646

Really glad I went through E-Trailer to get the hitch. First, I got advice from Nicole who help me decide on the hitch to get. Awesome person. Then I got follow-up e-mails from George letting me know my order's status. Finally, I watched the outstanding video on how to install the hitch and did the install. It was nearly flawless. Only issue is that I didn't have an extra pair of hands, so needed to come up with a non-human helping hand. I ended up using my RV leveling blocks to balance the hitch as close to the bolt holes as possible. Once I got one bolt started, the rest of it went without a hitch (pun intended). This is the 2nd hitch I purchased from E-Trailer. The other is on my 2012 Honda Fit. Again, the YouTube video eased my mind and convinced me that the install was within my capability. Great Company, awesome people, and superb products! You are the "go to" source for hitches! Keep up the great work!! 188363

The product was back-ordered from the manufacturer, but eTrailer kept me appraised of the status. When it did ship, it got here promptly (NoCalif). The Hidden Hitch was a snap to install - good directions and all the hardware that I needed. It took me about an hour, including fumbling with my multimeter to check the wiring. Here's a tip: if your car is less than brand new, any factory-installed threaded openings are probably caked with road grime. Clean them out by spraying the bolt with a lubricant and running it in the hole a ways before you start wrestling with the hitch under the car. This is the second hitch I've bought from eTrailer, so I don't shop anywhere else. 109452

Fitted on an Acura RDX 2010. The trailer hitch fitted perfectly with a little effort raising it to a workable height as i have no ramp. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. I fitted it in around 30 mins after finally wiggling underneath the back of the car. The receiver fitted perfectly, as did the ball. E-Trailers were super helpful on all aspects of my purchase. The shipping was quick and the advice was spot on. A great buying experience overall. A+++ 176357

I have a 2014 Acrua RDX. I installed this hitch by myself in 40minutes. It fit right in with no issues. I cannot be happier. The customer service at etailer is amazing as well. When you call the 800 number you are able to get ahold of someone right away. Fantastic company and I would definitely do business with them again. 139510

Fit perfect, arrived quickly and video made instillation a snap. I use a box under the hitch to help support it during installation. etailer is one of the few companies where people answer the phones and respond quickly with support. This is 3rd hitch I have ordered for 3 different SUVs, all have been awesome. 167961

Trailer Hitch Receiver is good. I wish though there was an option to get a cheap tap with it. My car is 4 years old mostly driven in the northeast, so the threads got rusty/dirty so the bolts wouldn't go in. I had to buy a $25 tap and wait two weeks just to run two holes once. 167459

Ask the Experts about this Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Is Stabilization Strap Required for Hidden Hitch/Draw-Tite Hitches for Bike Rack on 2014 Acura RDX
  • All of the trailer hitches for the 2014 Acura RDX install in basically the same way. For any of them, the estimate installation time is 30 minutes to an hour depending on several factors. Individual results may vary. Having an assistant will help make things easier, especially when raising the hitch into position. The Curt hitches # C13130 and # C12083 require the stabilization strap # 18050 for non-trailer loads such as a bike rack for their warranty requirements. The strap is meant...

But the same question can apply to them. Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch are sister companies. The hitches are for all intents and purposes the same. They even share the same instructions which I have linked for you. These 2 hitches and Curt hitch # C13130 will all look basically the same once installed. They install...

I even verified this with Curt, the manufacturer. I have also linked all of the trailer hitches that fit your RDX to the right. If you go with the Curt Class II trailer hitch, # C12083, then the correct ball mount to use is # C45521. On a Class II hitch you have to use the ball mount indicated by the hitch manufacturer...

  • Some manufacturers are more conservative in their approach to safety and will therefore insist that extra measures are taken when using their products. We do offer a few hitches that are designed to fit your 2014 Acura RDX. I recommend the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, part # 87642. This is a Class lll hitch and has a weight capacity of 400 lbs. They started doing this recently and have said that it has nothing to do with the strength of the hitch. I can attest to the strength of the Curt hitches, they are not any weaker or stronger than other name brands. If you go with a Curt hitch # C13154 you would have...
