Today were going to take a quick look at the ProSeries adjustable channel coupler with low latch part #: PSA256S0303. ProSeries covers this coupler with a limited one year warranty. It has a gross trailer weight capacity of 14,000lbs. Its designed to work with trailer balls that measure 2 5/16 inches. Now this is a bolt on coupler head thats designed to work with a channel bracket thats probably already installed on your trailer. The channel bracket will look something like this.

The coupler will fit into the channel and be secured with the bolts and nylon lock nuts. Now we do want to measure the outside width here to determine what channel is needed or what channel it will fit and we get about 2 7/8 inches, so you want to check the channel on your trailer first to make sure that this is compatible. Now we want to go over the latching system. To open the coupler well lift the latch up and pull it back towards the trailer. What this does is move the wedge that sits on the back of the trailer ball backing out of the way so you can get the ball in or out.

To close it simply push the latch forward. Now theres a hole here in the top of our latch where you can use a coupler lock to secure the latch. This will prevent not only the coupler from coming open when youre pulling your trailer down the road, but it will also help protect against theft if you store your trailer. Now well flip it over so you can see the mechanism from below. There is a wedge here that fits against the back of the ball when its in the socket.

If we lift our latch and slide the mechanism back the wedge moves back and out of the way allowing enough room to get the ball in or out. Now weve got a 2 5/16 ball with us, so well show you how it works with an actual trailer ball. Fit into the socket and then we can push our latch forward. The wedge comes forward, secures our ball in the socket, but allows enough travel that the trailer will track smoothly behind the vehicle. To get the ball out well simply reverse the process.

Lift the latch, pull the mechanism back. The wedge moves out of the way and the ball is freed. And thats it for our quick look at the ProSeries adjustable channel coupler with low latch part #: PSA256S0303.
