Today were going to review part number fhdpb340301. This is the Fulton Fold Away Coupler hinge kit for three inch by four inch trailer tongue. This is a bolt-on kit. This hinge kit will let you create up to a 48 inch fold away tongue for your trailer. It is designed to be used with actuators or standard couplers. This is a bolt-on installation.
It is of sturdy steel construction. As you can see it has a shiny, corrosion resistant, zemat 600 zinc finish. The mounting hardware, the pivot bolt and the pivot pin and clip are included. Now this hinge kit is not for use on aluminum trailer frames. It is made in the USA.
The application is to fit on three inch by four inch trailer tongue. That would be three inches wide by four inches tall. It does come with a five year limited warranty. Basically you would just pull the clip and pull the pin out. That would allow the fold away section, which would just be this part here, actually fold away.
It can be mounted the other way also to where it would fold this way. Now Fulton does recommend that the male casting, which is this casting right here, that has the casting on the middle here. This male casting should be mounted to the stationer part of the trailer tongue. Then this female casting part would be mounted to the fold away section of the tongue. Basically when youre going to tow with it you just put your pin in.
Put the clip on and you would be ready to go. Then if you pull it in the garage and you need to fold the tongue for storage just remove the pin and clip. This section which is the fold away part would just fold back towards the trailer. Now the capacity on this is up to 7,500 pounds. What you would want to do is look at the product page for this part number. It will list the table and show that depending on the length of the fold away section of your tongue, that length its called the maximum pivot length will determine the weight capacity. Basically what you would do is to determine the pivot length. This part is attached to the fold away tongue. You would measure from the center line of the coupler ball to the furthest pivot hole which is this one back here. If that fold away part is 48 inches then your weight capacity would be 4,000 pounds. Now if it is a shorter pivot length like 27 inches then it would give you the maximum of 7,500 pounds. Depending on what the pivot length is will determine the capacity of this hinge kit. Again I do recommend to go to the product page of this part number. Itll list the table and show you the different lengths. Then what your capacity rating would be. This hinge was exactly what I was looking for. My boat would not fit in the garage straight in or even at a shallow enough angle to park a car next to it. After a couple of hours of labor(FUN). The boat fits nicely on its side of the garage. I like projects that are rewarding once completed. The hinge is beautiful, and looks like it belongs on the trailer. The quality of materials was remarkable, and the fit was perfect. I have no concerns with this product failing whatsoever. Be careful not to cut your trailer wiring when sawing through the tongue. I needed a new plug on that end anyways, so no heartache here. I have read another review that stated this hinge was not sturdy and rattled. The only explanation I could see with the reason for that is not installing the rubber stoppers on the hinge per the instructions. The fit after installing the rubber was snug. It takes a little effort to close the hinge with the rubber stoppers installed and results in a tight connection. The picture of the product on this website shows the nuts on the top and bottom (outside) of the hinge, in the instructions it has you install them the other way, which leads to a cleaner looking end product. I will tell everyone I know that owns a boat about this product. 20770

Well made and thought out. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. My only complaint is that I wish the instructions would have addressed what to do with brake lines in more detail. Total installation was 3 hours including bleeding the brake lines. There were two of us which makes it much easier, especially for bleeding the brake lines.44764

This is a great product in concept, but not in execution. My friend installed one, which I liked. I needed to shorten my trailer by a few inches so I bought the kit too. I was able to shorten the trailer by 24 inches instead of only a few inches. When all was installed I tested it out, and the darn thing has so much wobble in it that I can easily get 1/2"-1" of up and down wobble at the coupler only 24 inches away. The casting and pins aren't a tight fit, and therefore the rating of the product is poor. I'm very disappointed and now I have a connection that scares me when I tow it. Not worth the convenience.19298

Perfect product I really needed to free up space in the garage so my wife could keep her car out of the weather. I ordered the fold away coupler and it has solved all our garage problems. Installation was easy and comes with everything you will need to install. I really don't know how you can improve the product at all. I will suggest this to anyone who needs to fold the tongue on there boat to make it fit in the garage straight. 4187
