Trailer Coupler 1-7/8" Ball 3" Channel Tongue (2,000 lbs.)

A key element of easy hitching, unhitching and safe trailer towing is a strong and efficiently operating coupler system, properly installed on the tongue of the trailer. D-L couplers offer an exclusive Quick-Lock ball clamp assembly that can be adjusted without wrenches. This feature provides a precise fit on the hitch ball while the trigger action release allows fast locking and unlocking. The lock lever is held securely closed by cam action and the safety latch.

• Zinc TUFFPLATE finish
  • Zinc plated yellow chromate TUFFPLATE finish has three times the corrosion resistance of standard zinc plated trivalent chrome process and 30 percent greater corrosion resistance when compared to powder coated finish. Results of lab test using 5 percent neutral salt spray confirms our TUFFPLATE finish provides in excess of 500 hours against First Red Rust and in excess of 100 hours of First White Corrosion.

• I spoke with my contact at Dutton-Lainson, the manufacturer, about the hardware requirements for Coupler # DL13728. She told me that to mount the coupler, you will need two, 1/2 inch bolts, that are 3-1/2 to 3-3/4 inches long. With this type of hardware installed, the coupler will be installed properly, according to manufacturer recommendations.

• Does Trailer Coupler Need to Sit Flat Against the Top of Trailer Tongue
  
• Ideally, you want the coupler sitting flat in direct contact with the top of the trailer tongue. If the gap between the bottom inside of the coupler and the trailer tongue is pretty minimal, say 1/16 of an inch or less, having it the way it is would most likely not cause a problem, but I would recommend you go ahead and fix it. This can be done in two ways. You can remove the coupler, cut about 1 to 1-1/2 inches off the end of the trailer tongue so you have fresh steel to work with and re-dri
