Today we're going to a quick look at the Bulldog cast head coupler with wedge latch, part number BD4425000317. Now Bulldog covers this coupler with a limited five year warranty. It has a gross trailer weight capacity of 25,000 pounds and a tongue weight capacity of 4500 pounds. It's high weight capacity makes it ideal for heavy trailer applications like livestock trailers, agriculture trailers, construction or equipment trailers. It's designed to be used with 2-5/16 trailer balls. The mount pattern on the back has four holes that 4-1/2 inches center to center, square, around the face.

Those holes are designed to work with 5/8 inch bolts. Now the coupler is finished in a gray primer coating so that you can change it to whatever you need to match your trailer. Next we're going to go over the latching system. There's a handle with a trigger release below it. You'll need to lift the trigger in order to pull up the handle.

Now the system is spring loaded so the handle will return to home once you let go. There's a hole through the handle system here that you can use with a coupler lock to secure the handle and make sure it doesn't come open while you're trailering down the road. It also serves to protect your trailer against theft while you have it in storage. There are cutouts on the top of our hinge system where you can feed the coupler lock through while you're hooking up or unhooking your trailer and it will hold the handle out of your way and hold the wedge below open. On the other side of the coupler, we can see the socket area for the ball and the wedge here that secures the ball.

As we open the handle, the wedge moves up and back out of the way creating enough room to get the ball inside. We have with us a 2-5/16 ball, so we'll show you how it works. While you hold the handle open the ball can fit into the socket and we'll let the handle go and it lock own into place. The wedge moves forward against the back of the ball and now our ball is captive while allowing smooth travel to make sure the trailer tracking behind the truck is even and steady.
