Today we're going to take a quick look at the Bulldog cast head coupler with wedge latch, part number BD4420000317. Now Bulldog covers this coupler with a limited five year warranty. It has a gross trailer weight capacity of 20,000 pounds and a tongue weight capacity of 3,000 pounds. Its capacity makes ideal for use on large weight trailers, like agriculture, livestock, construction or heavy equipment. It's designed to work with 2-5/16 trailer balls. It's got a gray primer coating on it that you can finish according to your needs to match your trailer.

There are four bolt holes here on the back that you can use to attach it directly to the trailer frame or a mounting kit. Now I want to go over the latch system. There's a trigger release underneath the handle. So you'll pull up on the trigger and flip the handle up. Its spring loaded so it will return to home on its own.

There's a hole here that you can use with the coupler lock that will serve to keep the latch from opening while you're trailering down the road, but will also help protect your trailer against theft while in storage. With the handle open the hole on the handle lines up with the hole on the mount here and you can feed the coupler lock through it and it will hold the latch open while you're either hooking or unhooking your trailer. Now I want to show you the wedge underneath. Here's our ball socket and there's wedge here, that moves out of the way when you lift the handle up. It moves up and back to allow enough room to get the ball in and out.

Now, we've got a 2-5/16 ball and we'll show you how it works with the ball. We lift our trigger on the handle, pull it up and then our ball will fit into the socket. We'll release the handle and it will lock down into place. The wedge comes up to the back of the ball and secures it and keeps it captive from coming out, but allows enough smooth movement that the trailer will track nicely behind the tow vehicle.
