Today were going to take a quick look at the Bulldog collar lock coupler with pin part #: BD028390. Now Bulldog covers this coupler with a limited five year warranty. It has gross trailer weight capacity of 7,000lbs and its designed to work with 2 inch trailer balls. This style of coupler comes with a pair of bolts that youll use to mount this coupler to a channel bracket. A channel bracket will look something similar to this. Were going to go ahead and measure the outside width here and we get 2 7/8 inches.

So you want to make sure that it will fit the bracket that you already have on your trailer. The overall length of coupler measures about 9 inches. Now I want to show you how this coupler system works. Theres a collar here that needs to slide back in order to release this hinge jaw on the couplers head. In order to do that well need to remove this pin so the collar could move back far enough.

Now the pin is secured to our coupler with a chain lanyard. That way you dont lose the pin. To open our coupler well just slide the collar back. The hinged jaw will pop open as its spring loaded. This will create a large enough opening to get your trailer ball in and out.

To close it pull the collar back, hold the jaw closed and let the collar slide back into position over the jaw. Now weve got a 2 inch trailer ball with us so well show you how it works in conjunction with the ball. Again, well slide the collar back, the jaw pops open and provides a shoulder for the collar to rest on while youre hooking or unhooking your trailer. Well fit the ball into place, hold the jaw closed and again let the collar slide forward. Now our ball is completely captive, but it has enough movement that the trailer should track nicely behind our vehicle.
