Today we will be installing the Stromberg Carson rigid tire carrier for use with travel trailers and fifth wheels, part number tr-1. This particular model fits on four-inch square bumpers on the rear of travel trailers and fifth wheels to hold the spare tire. Lets begin by laying out the parts. As you will see there are two u-bolts as well as a lock washer and a nut that will be used to hold the spare tire carrier to the rear bumper. You will also notice that there are two bolts as well as two clips that attach to the upper part of the tire carrier that will be used to hold the tire in place. You will first start by pushing one of the bolts through and taking the clips that come with the kit and pushing it on tight.

This actually holds the bolt in place. Youll repeat it again in the top hole. Now we can begin actually installing it to the rear bumper. You will set it up there kind of eyeballing exactly where it would fit best on the rear of your trailer keeping in mind you probably want to avoid putting it right in front of the license plate or any other hatch areas that you may need to get open. While holding up the tire carrier, feed the u-bolt around the square bumper and place a lock washer and then a nut on holding it in place.

Youll repeat this for both sides. Once you get all four nuts and washers on you need to tighten them down. Now that the rack has been tightened to the rear bumper, youll take your spare tire and set it up on the top bolt through one of the lug holes. You will then take one of the lug nuts supplied with the kit and snug down the tire. After you tighten the top lug nut down using one of the lug holes on the wheel, the second bolt will be in the center section of the wheel.

To tighten this section down you will take the black flat plate that comes with the kit, slide it over the bolt and sort of center the tire up and then place the other lug nut on top of that making sure both are tightened down. This completes the installation of the Stomberg Carson rigid tire carrier, part number tr-1.
