Product works exactly as described, best price I could find on the internet (as of 2-7-12). Shipping was crazy fast, I ordered it on a Tuesday and received it on Friday. For internet orders thats great for me. Came with all mounting hardware, the "U" bolts for mounting it to the jack are really CHEAP but they do work. I had a hard time getting the nuts to start on the bolts, they work for mounting the box but I wouldn't trust them with something heavy. Everything else doesn't feel or look cheap like the "U" bolts. Also I added the charging wire from the tow vehicle hot line to the battery on my own with no effort. I would buy again.31272

poor design. The cover is held on with 4 screws--ok. But the unit is mounted to the trailer with 4 bolts that go thru the cover. You cannot access the battery without removing the unit from the trailer and then removing the screws that hold the cover on. I had planned to remove the battery and put it on a trickle charger. That will now require a lot more work.11078

Received the Break-Away Kit very quickly. Installed it in short order and per design had my brakes locking up as soon as the break away pin was pulled. Very nice!8031

  • Trailer Break Away System Battery Charging Options for Hopkins Brake Master Break-Away Kit
  • You have two choices for charging that battery. You can certainly remove the battery and use CTEK MULTI US 3300 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger w/ Pulse Maintenance, # CTEK56158. These chargers are preferred over trickle chargers because the CTEK charger will not overcharge the battery and it will actually recondition the battery helping it to last longer. I have included a link to a video review and a link to the installation details for reference. Another option would be to use the Hopki

  • Function of the Auxiliary Battery in a Trailer Break Away Kit
  • You may not need to use the separate auxiliary battery that comes with Hopkins Brake Master Break-Away Kit part # HM20002. The battery in your trailer can be used if its capable of maintaining a charge that will hold the trailer brakes on the trailer for the required amount of time that is determined by the state and local laws for the states you will be towing in. Its usually 15 minutes. I attached directions and an instructional video for more information on how the whole system works t

  • Battery Monitor and Charger Recommendations for a Trailer Break Away Battery
  • There are numerous aftermarket battery indicators you can use to check the charge on your battery. You could connect a CTEK Battery-Health Indicator Cable, # CTEK56384, to monitor the battery. A green light means the battery is fine for use. A yellow light means the battery will need charging soon. A red light indicates the battery will have to be charged before it can be used. A drip or trickle type of battery charger can over charge a battery. Instead, I recommend the CTEK 12-Volt Battery C

  • Solar Panel Charging Option for a 12V5AH Breakaway Battery
  • There are solar options for charging a 12V5AH breakaway battery. You could use the CTEK D250S Universal Battery Charger, # CTEKD250S. This charger includes an input for connecting a solar panel without the need of a regulator. I have attached a photo that shows how to connect a solar panel and how to connect the charger to the battery. The connector on the top left is for the solar panel in and the top right connector is for the solar panel ground. The bottom right connector will connect to t

  • How to Wire in a Breakaway Kit on a Trailer
  • Considering that some of the wiring was damaged and that the camper was older to begin with I would recommend re-wiring the entire trailer with a new harness like # H20046. This is a 7-Way connector and I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation. The wiring color codes can be found on the product page. A typical breakaway system is wired as follows: The brake output wire from the 7-Way that goes to the trailer brakes will also connect to one of the wires on the bre

  • Breakaway Kit Recommendation for a Triple Axle Trailer with 6 Brakes
  • We do have a breakaway kit available for your triple axle trailer with 6 brakes, but the Hopkins Breakaway Kit, # HM20002, is only designed for single or tandem axle trailers. For your trailer, I would recommend the Tekonsha Breakaway Kit, # 20020. This kit will work with 1, 2, 3 or 4 axle trailers. Like the Hopkins kit, this kit includes a sealed, rechargeable 12 volt battery and it also includes a battery charger.

  • Explanation of How Trailer Breakaway Kit Works
  • The Hopkins Brake Master Break-Away Kit works by applying 12 volts of power to the trailer brakes when the plastic key is pulled out of the switch box allowing the circuit to be completed and power applied from the breakaway battery. If the trailer coupler should come off of the trailer ball, the safety cable pulls the key out and the connection is made to stop the trailer. The included rechargeable battery is charged by the auxiliary power wire from the tow vehicle which must be connected t
