Video Transcript for Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit Installation- 2009 Buick Enclave

Today on this 2009 Buick Enclave we will be installing part number 523149-1 from Roadmaster. The first thing we need to do is get underneath the hood of the vehicle and remove some fasteners so we can remove the front fascia. There are 12 fasteners that need to be removed. To remove the rivet there is a dent inside here that you pop the screwdriver in and kind of pick up the middle part. Then you can use your rivet tool and just pull it out. These sunken rivets are a pain, just take your screwdriver and work your way around it. Then remove the engine cover. Now there is a Phillips screw, one on each side that we need to remove. :56

Next we are going to remove the 5 fasteners that are up here along the inside of our fender well. Those are Phillips screws. The next thing we are going to do is remove some fasteners on the bottom. We have this one bolt right here and these two Phillips head screws that need to be removed. It will be the same on both sides. To pull this fender trim off it is a bit of a pain, because you can not see these tabs here. So from the inside, you need to reach from underneath, while this is pushed in and reach around and push on here, on this tab, and then you can pull out the fender trim. With the trim piece removed you can peel back the fender liner and undo the last screw right here that needs to be removed. 1:56

The next thing we are going to do is disconnect the fog lights from the bumper fascia, there is one connection point that needs to be removed. Push down this button right here and it comes apart. Now we can removed the front fascia, there are some snaps here that are pretty tight, you have to get behind them and pull out this way, as I said, they are pretty tight so you have to work it loose. To remove the ambient temperature sensor, there is a rivet right here you need to pull out. We will reinstall the sensor at a later time. There are two bolts sunk in right here, remove these two bolts and our bracket will bolt up at that point. Our bracket is going to fit in like so , and this flat part is going to sit behind the bumper structure itself. When you install the frame bracket, make sure this part of the frame bracket is on this side of this bumper support structure right here. Run your 10 millimeter bolts with your flat washers and lock washers and run that back in the original spot where the bolts were. Now we need to position our bracket flat against the backside of the bumper structure, and as square as possible up against it. We are going to use a clamp to hold everything into place. Now we need to make a mark to drill our hole because we need a hole drilled through the front of the bumper structure, and out the back. We are going to measure 3-1/2 inches over from this edge here and about 1 inch down. 3:24

First we will go ahead and start off with a 1/4 inch bit for a pilot hole and we will follow with a 1/2 inch hole. take our bolt, and large black flat washer, push it on through, and install the flat washer, lock washer and nut. We are going to drill out two holes out in the bottom here. There are two layers of steel to drill through, there is about an inch in between. The hardware we are going to attach is this block here that has been threaded, slide that over the top inside the bumper, and thread our bolt into it. The bolt is just going to have a lock washer. Next we need to drill a hole through our support right here. It is kind of hard to drill because this bracket for our oil cooler is in the way so we have to loosen up the brackets, there is one on each side. We are going to push it up and out of the way. We are going to pick it up, and push it to one side so it sits on top of this stud here. This will give us a little more room to drill out. We are going to take a 1/2 inch bolt, there is a little left over so you need to thread this one through, add the block on the inside, and then lock washer and nut. Now that this side is done, now lets repeat this same process back over on the passenger side. When you have both brackets installed, we can go ahead and but the oil cooler back into place. When you do this, look over on the passenger side and make sure the lines on the cooler are not touching the bracket here. If they are, you can lift the whole thing back up, give yourself some clearance, and tighten them down. We can reinstall our temperature sensor here. Our bracket can cover the place where it used to go, you can zip tie it to the bumper structure itself, but I think what you can do is drill a quarter inch hole, and use the same factory rivet to hold everything in place. Besides the trim, these two pieces sit flush. 5:22

There is our mark, now lets go ahead and drill it out. At this point everything is loosely installed so we are going to snug all the bolts down, and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. Next we need to cut out some access holes for our brackets so we can install it when we are using it. We just took chalk and marked out on the plastic we are going to remove as directed in the instructions. After you are satisfied with the way everything fits, we will go ahead and snap everything back together and reinstall the rest of the components. Lets go ahead and install the brackets now. Its pretty simple to install. Push in with the bracket going up, and flip it over to 45 degrees where it is nice and flat and it is installed. Next we will install our safety cables, that will go on the inside right here. Secure our cables on and repeat that on the other side. With that, that will conclude our installation of part number 523149-1 from Roadmaster.
