The square drawbars, or front arms, on the XL series base plate kit are simple to mount and remove, easily securing with hitch pins. Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit Installation - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Video Transcript for Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit Installation - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today on this 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee we are going to install part number 1425-1 from Roadmaster. This is the Roadmaster XL series base plate. To begin we are going to remove the grill and the bumper. Removing the bumper is optional, but we are going to remove it so it is easier to see what is going on. First off, we will start by removing the grill. There are two bolts on top to remove. To remove the grill there is a little catch underneath here. You can pull that up, and it makes it a little easier to move around. There is a clip in the middle that is a little hard to get to, so you have to take a screw driver and pop it up, and that will bring it loose. :41

There are four latches on the bottom too. It helps to break these loose a little bit by pressing down on the bottom of the bumper cover. Next we will go ahead and remove these 4 plastic rivets here. There are two rivets on the side here, and there is a bolt up here as well. No we will disconnect the fog lights. There are three plastic rivets on the bottom here that we have to remove as well. At this point we have to remove the bumper cover. Now we can start installing the hardware on the vehicle. 1:31

We are going to use this 2 by 3 inch block and this 2 inch long carriage bolt. We are going to put it into the inside of this bumper structure right here, above this hole. There is an opening behind the bumper structure that you can thread everything through. We are going to use a bolt leader to do that, which is part number 80101-1. Install our block, let the wire guide it and push it into the frame. Then we will thread on the bolt. We will pull everything back through, and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now we can install the cross brace. We are going to install it by using this bolt going into the round hole here and the square hole is going to get the shorter carriage bolt. We are going to go ahead and those in now. Then the rubber bushing goes in between the cross brace and the bolt and then we will do a lock nut and washer. We will do that on both sides. We will leave everything loose for now. Next we are going to remove our two bolts for our sway control arm here. What is going to happen is the base plate will fit between the frame and the sway control bar. When you are done with the driver side, you will repeat the same process on the passenger side. 2:42

With all four bolts loosened, we can go ahead and lower it down, it will actually move on its own. Now we can start installing the base plate. Lets go ahead and slide it in. There is one carriage bolt on the outside, we will attach to that with a lock washer and nut. In this back hole here, I am going to install this 10millimeter bolt. Thread that in place. Depending on the vehicle, you may have to clean out these threads. We will work on this bolt here, right behind the receiver opening. Now we can put our sway bar back up into position using the factory bolts. Once you have everything started, go ahead and repeat the same process back on the other side. With all the hardware in place, lets snug down all the bolts and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. We have all the body components installed, so lets go ahead and install the safety cables. The D-ring comes with the kit. Now we will install the brackets for the tow bar, they just slide right in. Use the hitch pin, and we are set for the passenger side. Now the driver side. That will finish it for our install of part number 1425-1 from Roadmaster.
