Swivel Function

Tow bars are notoriously difficult to connect and disconnect, especially on uneven surfaces. Rigid tow bars have arms that are essentially locked in place so you have to drive your towed vehicle into the exact position necessary for hookup. But with the Alpha, you can connect from the approximate towing position, even on unlevel terrain. The unique swivel design allows the tow bar arms to turn and pivot just enough to compensate for a slight height difference so you no longer have to worry about being on completely level ground.

Self-Aligning Design

The convenient, self-centering arms help to make hookup a snap as well. Once you have connected the tow bar to the base plates on your towed vehicle, simply drive your RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend and lock in place.

Non-Binding Release Latch

Non-Binding Tow Bar

Blue Ox has defeated the age-old problem of binding by creating a tow bar that is just as easy to release as it is to hook up. Simply press down the locking handles on the tow bar arms until the internal latch disengages. By releasing some of the static pressure from your tow bar you can flex its arms just enough to make disconnecting from the base plates a snap, even when it's out of level with your RV.

Triple-Lug Bracket

Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox base plates on your vehicle are equipped with two tabs each that connect to the brackets on the ends of the tow bar arms. These brackets are referred to as "lugs." The unique triple-lug design of the Alpha tow bar creates a tighter, more stable connection by surrounding both base plate tabs. The result is a sturdy, reinforced connection that is stronger and more rigid for a safer, more dependable towing experience.

Hooking up the Alpha to your base plates is as simple as it is secure. Just insert the triple-lug end of the tow bar arm into the base plate so that the center lug is positioned between the two tabs of the base plate. Then insert the 1/2" keeper pin through the lugs and tabs and secure it at the end with the included quick pin.

Simple Storage

The Alpha can be easily stored on your RV when it is not in use. After disconnecting the tow bar from your towed vehicle, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. You can then fold them up toward the RV and insert the integrated hold-up bolt into place on the hitch connector. Then pivot the arms down so that they are held firmly in place alongside the RV, parallel to its bumper.

Blue Ox Tow Bar Installation - 2004 Mini Cooper

Video Transcript for Blue Ox Tow Bar Installation - 2004 Mini Cooper

Today on this 2004 Mini Cooper were going to do a test fit of part number bx7365 from Blue Ox. This is their Alpha Tow Bar. Now were going to use a test stand to hold our tow bar up while we do our demonstration. Well go ahead and put it into our hitch and install the pin and clip. Now the tow bar is folded to the side, so well unfold it, well pull it up and over to the other side to release the pin that holds it in place. Once the pin is in the center of the slot, now we can go ahead and fold it down.

Well go ahead and take the arms and spread them apart a little bit and well twist it so you can see where it has its mobility right here. And, you can see on the arms, theres a label on the side to tell you which direction is up as we install it. Take one of the arms and extend it out to our vehicle. Well pull out the safety pin and the clip and well put it onto the tabs and our Cooper and well line it up, insert the pin and then the clip. We have one side done.

Lets go ahead and do the other side the same way. Once again well go ahead and slide the arm out and connect it to our tab. Now well go ahead and install the safety cables. Well disconnect the rubber strap from the end of the hook and attach it to the base plate and then well reinstall the rubber strap. This strap helps keep the hook in place on the base plate.

Well take it and stretch it out, take one loop of it and wrap it around the tow bar and connect it up to our stand. One down. Lets go ahead and do the other side. Well repeat the same process. With the tow bar and safety chain hooked up, well go ahead and pull back on the stand to show you how the arms will stretch out and into their locked position.

And, when you are done using the tow bar, well remove our safety cables and disconnect the arms. Then we can go ahead and fold them back up. And with that, thatll finish it for our test fit of part number bx7365 from Blue Ox, the Alpha Tow Bar, on our 2004 Mini Cooper.

We purchased the Blue Ox Tow Bar to use behind our Class C Motorhome. It was easy to attach to the RV as well as the Honda Fit which we are towing. We haven't had a chance to use it since we received it, however, we have had nothing but glowing remarks about the Blue OX products from all our RV camping buds. ETrailer was very prompt in shipping this to us and even reduced the shipping time at no additional cost. We ordered this on Monday afternoon and it arrived by UPS at our residence on Thursday morning. Thanks ETrailer for your followup and your prompt shipping.98314

The Tow bar appears well made and of highest quality. We replaced the standard pin with anti-rattle locking pin and my wife made a cover on her sewing machine for the stowed position. I like the fact that it stows well out of the way and our rear RV basement door opens without interference. All the controls and joints move easy enough and all that remains is putting some miles on it.80812
