- I have not heard of any problems when installing a brake controller on a 2007 Suzuki XL7. The issue you heard about may have been due to hooking the red stoplight switch wire from the brake controller up to a wire dedicated to the cruise control system. I have heard of problems with the cruise control wiring on the XL7. A brake controller only draws a small amount of current from the stoplight circuit for activation of the brake controller. - There are a few things that could be causing the problem you are having with your trailer brakes. First, you will want to check the adjustment to your brake assemblies. When turning the trailer wheel, you should be able to hear the brakes barely brushing all around as the wheel spins. - You are correct, the BTMT15 is only designed to measure up to 10A which will not allow you to measure for 4 or 6 brake magnets on a trailer. In this case I would recommend using a multimeter with a higher amperage rating or testing the magnets separately. At this time we do not carry a multimeter capable of testing more than 10A.
