How to Measure Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number is the diameter of the circle the holes sit on. To determine the diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure center-to-center on bolt holes directly across from each other on the circle (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 would mean 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" center-to-center diameter). When the number of bolt holes is odd, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from it on the circle (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 would mean 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolts).
AND / OR

The distance between the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of the bolt hole right next to it will also help determine the bolt pattern.
- If D = 2-5/8" then the bolt pattern is a 5 on 4-1/2
- If D = 2-3/4" then the bolt pattern is a 5 on 4-3/4
- If D = 3" then the bolt pattern is a 5 on 5
- If D = 3-1/4" then the bolt pattern is a 5 on 5-1/2

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheels?
- What does the D15 Mean in Tire Size ST205/75-D15
- I think you are confusing the tire size numbers with load range. This size tire is available as a ST205/75-D15 or as a ST205/75-R15. The D indicates that the tire is a diagonal bias ply construction and the R indicates that the tire is a radial tire construction.
Beyond the size and type, there are load ranges for tires. Most trailer tires are load range B, C or D. This number indicates how much weight the tire can bear at a certain inflation pressure.

- Can Changing From Bias Ply to Radial Trailer Tires Contribute to Trailer Sway
- There can be many factors that lead to trailer sway. In this case, the new tires have a lower load rating. If they are being overloaded, that could cause some problems. You will also want to make sure they are inflated to their maximum rated psi as indicated on the tire sidewall.
Radial tires trend to track better than bias ply tires so I do not think the different style is leading to the problem. If the tires are a different size than what was on the trailer, that could lead to a difference

- Can I Use a Bias-Ply Tire as a Spare on a Trailer with Radial Tires
- It is not recommended that you use a bias ply tire on a trailer that has radial tires. Due to the different constructions of either tire the ride will be different on each wheel and would most likely cause sway that could be hazardous to you and other motorists.
The main difference between a radial ply and bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords underneath the tire are run in different directions. On a bias tire, the cords run at a 32 degree angle from the direction of travel
