Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Today we're going to review part no. AM32664. This is the Kenda Karrier Tire ST225/75R15 radial trailer tire mounted on a 15-inch Dextar white spoke wheel. This wheel is a white powder-coated finish wheel on the front of the wheel and on the back of the wheel. The powder coating give it superior corrosion resistance. On this wheel we'll do a few dimensions on, the diameter of the wheel is 15 inches, so if we measure the inside of the inside it will be 15 inches.

The width of this wheel is 6 inches wide. This wheel has a bolt pattern of 6 on 5 inches and on a wheel that has an even number of lug holes, the way to measure the bolt pattern is you measure from the center of one lug hole to the center of the hole directly opposite from it. So in this case, if we measure from center to center it would be 5 and inches. So thatll be a 6 on 5 -inch wheel. This wheel has a load carrying capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi.

It does use a wheel bolt size of a -inch by 20. Another critical measurement is the large hole in the center of the wheel which is called the pilot hole. We're going to measure the diameter of that. This is the hole that will go over the hub on your trailer. So if we measure the diameter it would 4 and inches.

Now we move on to the tire. The tire is Kenda Loadstar carrier tire and the size is ST225/75R15. ST is for special trailer. The R will signify that it is a radial designed tire. This tire is a Load Range D which is 8-ply rated tire.

It has a maximum load capacity of 2,540 pounds at 65 psi and this tire is a radial constructed tire and what we mean by that is the belts on the inside or the cords will run from bead seat to bead seat across the tire which is the radius as oppose to a bias which will run the length of the tire. A nice feature of the radial design tire is because the way it is constructed it has a lot more flex and it will allow more ground contact which will give you better traction better, a tread wear and also as long as your trailer is not overloaded, it will run cooler which will help in the tread wear. This tire/wheel combo does come with a limited 2-year warranty and that should do it for part no AM32664.
