Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Today, we'll be taking a look at part number: AM30156 - the Kenda 5.7 X 8 Bias Trailer Tire with an 8" Galvanized Wheel. The Kenda 5.7 X 8 Bias Trailer Tire on 8" Galvanized Wheel. This wheel does have a galvanized finish for superior corrosion-resistance. It does measure 8" in diameter by 3-3/4" wide. It has a 5 on 4-12" bolt pattern. To get these dimensions, we obviously know that it has 5 lug bolt holes, and if you draw a circle through the center of each of the 5 bolt holes, and measure the diameter of that circle, you get 4-1/2".

You can also measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole right next to it, which in this case would be 2-5/8". And using the chart on the product page, you know that that with 5 bolt holes and a 2-5/8" length, you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The wheel has a capacity of 910 lbs. and a wheel bolt hole size by 1/2" X 20". Another important piece of information that you do need to have is the pilot hole diameter.

This is the center hole in the wheel that will fit over axle hub. This wheel has a 2.8" diameter pilot hole. Now, we'll move on to the tire. This is a Loadstar 5.7 X 8" It has an overall diameter of 18". It has a load range D, 8-ply rating tire, which gives it a maximum load of 1,075 lbs at 100 psi.

It is of bias construction, which means the belts within the tire run the length of the tire. This wheel and tire combo comes with a two-year limited warranty. And that should do it for part number: AM30156. .
