Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Today we will review part AM30000. This is the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire mounted on an 8" Dexstar White Spoke Wheel. First we'll do the rim dimensions. This is an 8" diameter wheel, so if we measure inside-to-inside it would be 8" and is 3-3/4" wide wheel. The bolt pattern on this wheel is a 4-lug, 4" bolt pattern and the best way to measure that bolt pattern is from the center of the lug hole to the center of the lug hole directly opposite. So if we measure center-to-center, would be 4".

The weight capacity on this wheel is 910 pounds. This wheel uses a bolt size of 1/2"-20. Another critical measurement, is the pilot hole diameter which is the hole at the center of the wheel, that is what will fit over the hub on your trailer. If we measure the diameter on that would be 2.5". This wheel has a white powder coat finish.

Now move on to the tire. The tire is a Loadstar, size 4.80/4.00-8". This is a load range: B tire which is a 4-ply rated tire. Has a maximum load carrying capacity of 590 pounds at 60 psi. This tire is a bias construction which should mean the belts inside the tire will run the length of the tire.

Another measurement we're going to do is the overall diameter which if we measure across would 16". This tire wheel combo comes with a limited 2-year warranty. That should do it for product number AM30000.
