Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Do not say KENDRA anywhere on them, Brand LOADSTAR?

I contacted Americana which manufactures the Kenda Loadstar brand. The bias trailer tires will say Loadstar or a code number with a K in front of it for Kenda.

they are the worst tires i ever had. they are ballooned out in the center.they only ride on the center of the tire, no flat surface, looks like a donut. i am afraid to go to far with these tires.

by:

These tires are awful. They were trouble as soon as they arrived at my shop. Tires come compressed about completely flat and boxed up; I have ordered hundreds of tires over the years and have never seen tires shipped this way. This made it extremely difficult to get the tires mounted and beaded up on the rims. Upon airing up the tires they have a shape similar to a motorcycle tire which gives it a pretty small contact patch, even when fully loaded. On the first trip out, I noticed a vibration from the trailer; took off all four wheels and noticed one of the tires had a broken belt. They replaced that tire under warranty, which actually wasn’t a bad process. The trailer still doesn’t feel quite right with these tires, I had asked several times through the manufacturer that I wanted a different set of tires as I don’t trust these, they won’t do anything about it and told me everything I experienced was “normal”. It’s funny because I’m the past I purchased cheap trailer tires from Amazon and had really good luck with them, but was ordering a bunch of items from eTrailer to do maintenance on my trailer and decided to get these. These were more expensive than the Amazon tires and have been a total disaster. I get to buy another set of tires now just so I can get this nightmare out of my life.

by:

Perfect match for an old 1960's era Montgomery-Ward utility trailer I found buried in a junk pile and restored for use on the farm behind ATV and golf cart.

by:

I purchased these to replace the tires on my boat trailer. They fit the rim but seemed slightly smaller than the tires I took off. The only other thing I noticed is that the tires were made a few months apart and had slightly different lettering. The font or design was different between the two. Since I only had one on each side, it didn’t really matter. Nobody will ever notice it. The tire was as described and should fit the need perfectly. I have already pulled it a few times but nothing heavy, just a couple hundred pounds max including the trailer.

by:

I purchased one of these tires for my wheelbarrow last Spring. I live in the land of goatheads, prickly pear cactus, and other thorns; previous tires just didn't last. Very frustrating when you go to get the wheelbarrow and the darn tire is flat! This one has survived the Spring and all Summer without a hitch, flat or one single problem. I would highly recommend this option to anyone with a similar problem!
Can you tell which tire I like?

by:

This is the first time I have ordered trailer tires from Etrailer and I did not know what to expect with regard to service and product quality. The last pair of tires I had on my pontoon boat trailer were 185/80R13 Marathon tires but according to the specifications, the Etrailer 185/80R13 tires had a better load rating and higher safe speed rating than my old Marathon tires. My Etraier tires also have a 2/2018 date of manufacturing which was also a plus.

by:

The tires are great, nothing out of the ordinary, but they arrived quickly and met my needs exactly.

What I am more impressed with is etrailer's service. I've ordered a few things over the past few years, and in a world where the customer often comes last, etrailer has been top notch with service and communication. I even cancelled an order once because I changed plans. They took care of that immediately, reimbursing my card, no questions asked.

I'm doing this review because I received an email asking me to -- one year after ordering the product. That's smart! Most places want you to review before you've even had a chance to use it. Thanks!

  • Do Higher Trailer Load Ranges Allow for Higher Speed Ratings
Load Range for trailer tires has to do with the weight capacity. The higher the Load Range the higher the weight capacity and usually the higher the PSI recommendation for the tire. Going with a higher Load Range will not give you the ability to travel at higher speeds. 65 miles per hour is typically the standard max speed for trailer tires. Exceeding that figure will cause excessive heat to build up and increase the risk of tire failure regardless of Load Range. Cracking on the sidewall...

  • What Would Cause Trailer Tires to Wear on The Insides
A tire that is wearing more on the inside of the tread usually means that the trailer is either overloaded or the tire is toed out at the bottom which could be the result of something being bent, like the spindle, or out of alignment. You could take your trailer to an alignment shop that does work on trailers and have them inspect the trailer to see if they can pinpoint the issue if your trailer isn't overloaded. Otherwise the Kenda Tire part # AM10064 would basically wear the same way...

  • Replacement Tire Size for 4 Winns 190 Horizon Boat Trailer
I don't have any reference material that would tell me what the tire size of your boat trailer is. Unlike passenger vehicles, this information isn't easily researchable. The tires that are currently on the trailer should have the tire size listed on the tire sidewalls as shown in the diagram I've provided. If you could provide the tire size and load rating, I'd be happy to recommend some replacement tires for you. I'll also link you to an FAQ article about trailer tires.

  • How To Determine What Bearings Are Needed On Travel Trailer
When replacing bearings on a trailer, you will need to know what size bearings will fit the spindle on your trailer axle. The best way is to remove the old bearings and check for the numbers on the bearing. That way you get an exact match. If you are unable to find the numbers on the bearing, you will need to measure the spindle surface as shown in the attached drawing to make sure you get the right size. Because the load range can vary on tires that are 5.30-12 it would be difficult to...

  • Recommended PSI for Size 5.30-12 Tires
The psi should be listed on the sidewall of the tire. It is recommended that tires always be inflated to the max psi. The max psi of the tire will depend on the tire's load range, not the weight of the trailer. For instance, we carry 5.30-12 tires in load ranges B, C, and D. The maximum psi is 55 for one of our load range B tires, 80 for a load range C, and 105 for a load range D. However, different tire manufacturers may have different psi ratings even for the same tire size and load...

  • Replacing 5.30-12 Wheels and Tires With Smaller 5.7-8 Wheels and Tires
You can switch to a smaller size wheel and tire as long as you do not have brakes that will interfere with the smaller wheel or a trailer with to much weight for the smaller tires. The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30153 has a wheel with the 4 on 4" lug pattern. It is a Load Range D tire with a 910lb capacity. It is 5.8" wide and has an outer diameter of 18" which is roughly 1/4" narrower and 4" smaller than your current 5.30-12 # AM10064.

  • ST Tire Pressure for Kenda Brand Trailer Tires
Yes. Kenda recommends running their tires at the max psi when inflated cold no matter the weight on the trailer. The good news is a tire with load range B is going to be softer than a higher ply/load rated tire. Goodyear is the only manufacturer we carry that gives a sliding PSI rating based on the weight actually on the tires at any given time. Not inflating to the required PSI can cause tires to overheat and wear too quickly or even blowout. For example the # AM10060 should be...

  • Comparing a 5.30x12 and 5.70x8 Trailer Tire
A 5.30x12 tire such as part # AM10064 is around 21.7" diameter x 5.3" wide whereas a 5.70x8 tire such as part # AM10013 is around 18.1" diameter x 5.7" wide. Therefore, the new tire will be 3.6" taller x .5" narrower than the one you have now. You only need to account for half of each measurement for clearance.
