How to Install the XG12 Pro Snow Chain

  1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.
  2. Connect the plastic-covered, yellow and blue cable on the back side of the tire.
  3. Pull the chain over the top and around the tire. Connect the red hook to the red loop.
  4. Make the last connection by running the red loop through the buckle and then to the red hook attached to the tensioning cable.
  5. Simply drive forward to activate the patented self-centering, auto-tensioning system to ensure a perfect fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches

Thule XG12 Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains Review

Video Transcript for Thule XG12 Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule XG-12 Pro self-tensioning snow tire chains. These have the diamond pattern and offer the D-ring. Available in a wide range of sizes, for many different applications. Thule uses a self-tensioning device, here, as you can see. As we go down the road, the patented technology is going to help center our snow chain onto our tire and keep it nice and tarp, so we know how to deal with any kind of adjusters. As you can see, they give us color coded connections. So it's really easy to figure out where we need to connect our chains.

We got one here and the front side. We've got our blue cable that come together here in the rear and we also have a red and gray down here, as you can see. Red and gray, red and gray, and then red and gray. All color coded so you know how they go together. They designed the chains with a double-sided D-shaped ring, which gives us great traction.

That, paired up with double steel plates at each of our diamond, is going to help give us the traction we really need to get going and also get stopped. We've created these using our high quality manganese alloy. It's going to give us years of good use and very good corrosion resistance. The tensioning device itself, has a plastic coating on it. It's going to prevent it from sticking to our fingers like the standard steel likes to do. These chains are nice and the fact that they're compatible with all of your ABS and ESC controls on your vehicle.

Another nice feature that they've added, these nice nylon stops. Depending your rim size, the chain may actually, or your hooks here may actually want to rest up against your rim. You just take one of these, place it in the slots all the way around, and it's just a pressure fit cap that goes on. That's going to hold it in place and protect our rim as we drive down the road. The chains come with a nice carrying case. When we open it up we're going to find we've got our package of protectors in there, of course we're going to have a second chain that will be two in a pack; theyre sold as a pair, we're also going to have our instruction manual, we've got a repair packet here in case we we're to damage any of our links, we've got a nice inaudible 00:02:27 and a set of gloves there to protect our knees while if we're using a snow chain, it's in the snow, isn't it So, it helps to keep us dry. We'll come around here to the passenger's side to show you how to get the chain installed.

We feed the yellow end around to the rear to the tire. As you can see, itll join up here. We, then, connect the two blue ends of the cable just by sliding it in and pulling it back. We'll do this right up behind our tire. Get those in and now we'll kind of lither our cable go back around to the rear side where we connect our red link with our red clip here on the front. We now gather up our chains around the rear side here. We'll bring in the tension. It'll go right into the gap here and we'll just bring the tension out of it and we'll bring our auto-tensioner down and connect then right there. Now we're ready to head down the road. That will complete today's look at the Thule XG-12 Pro soft tensioning snow tire chains. .

Do you have a question about this Tire Chains?

  • Tire Chains for a Mercedes Sprinter RV with LT215/85-16 Tires
  • The first thing you are going to want to do is consult the Sprinter owners manual for specific information on the use of tire chains. If you need Class S chains which require the least amount of clearance around the tire I reocmmend Glacier square-link chains # PWPLC1146. The square-links offer the best traction and they are constructed of low-carbon steel so they should last you a long time especially if they will not be used very often. You would also want rubber adjusters, # PW99...

  • Choosing Correct Snow Tire Chains for 235/55-18 Tires on a Lexus 400H
  • The clearance that appears on the product pages for tire chains refers to how far the chain rises above the tire. For example, with Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, # TH01594245, when installed the chain would stick up 12 millimeters from the tire. Anything less than 37mm is considered a Class S. You will need to check the tire size on your Lexus 400H to see if the # TH01594245 chains will fit your Lexus. In order to determine if tire chains can be used and if there are any restrictions...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2005 Honda Odyssey with 235/65R16 Tires
  • The Glacier Tire Chains, # PWPLC1142, are listed as a fit for a 2005 Honda Odyssey with 235/65R16 tires. However, you will want to check a couple of things first before installing any chains. Start by turning the wheels to either all the way right or all the way left. Then measure the distance from the inside of the sidewall of the tire to the nearest part of the van on both sides. This is clearance that you cannot exceed with chains. You will also need to check the owners manual...

  • Class S Tire Chain Definition and Recommendation for a 2007 Honda Odyssey with 235/65R-16 Tires
  • The Glacier Square-Link Snow Tire Chains, # PWPLC1142, are compatible for use on vehicles that require a Class S or smaller tire chain, like your 2007 Honda Odyssey. Class S refers to limited clearance tire chains that measure 15mm or less at the side walls and 37mm or less across the tread of the tire they are designed to fit. Because your vehicle has limited wheel well and front suspension clearance you will want to make sure these chains are as tight as possible when installed on...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation For 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty
  • I spoke with my contact at Titan chains and they told me that their chains are made in China. We do offer tire chains that will fit your 20000 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4X4, but are not made in the U.S. Tire chains are based on your tire size. If your tires are 215/85-16, I recommend the Thule XG12 Pro, part # TH01594245. These are self-centering and self-tensioning dual-sided, D-shape links, which are designed for a smoother ride while still gripping in snow and ice. Thule chains are made...

  • Use of Snow Tire Chains on my 2006 LEXUS RX330 AWD
  • You would want to have snow tire chains on all the powered drive wheels of your 2006 Lexus RX330, but you also want to follow the guidelines of the vehicle manufacturer. Having the chains on the front will be beneficial since the front axle is a powered drive axle. Also with chains on the front wheels, there is an increase in steering stability. Your Lexus should have a 225/65-17 size tire. For tire chains for your Lexus, I would recommend the Thule Tire Chains, part # TH01594245. Installation...

If the chains are going to sit in the rear of the van and will only be used once or twice a year or for emergency purposes, an inexpensive set of chains like the Glacier Twist-Link, part # PWH2229SC you mentioned would be a good choice. • Tire Chains for a 2014 Roadtrek RS Adventurous RV with 215/85-16 Tires
  • For Thule tire chains, the XG-12 Pro chains are what Thule recommends for SUVs and the XB-16 chains are what they reocmmend for Vans and RVs. Some of the tires sizes for these different vehicles overlap so that is why you see both when you enter a tire size or go through the fit guide. I would go with the XB-16 chains, # TH01571245, since they are designed for for RVs.
