Quick and easy installation of Thule XG-12 Pro Chains

How to Install the XG12 Pro Snow Chain

  1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.
  2. Connect the plastic-covered, yellow and blue cable on the back side of the tire.
  3. Pull the chain over the top and around the tire. Connect the red hook to the red loop.
  4. Make the last connection by running the red loop through the buckle and then to the red hook attached to the tensioning cable.
  5. Simply drive forward to activate the patented self-centering, auto-tensioning system to ensure a perfect fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches

Thule XG12 Pro Tire Chains Review

Video Transcript for Thule XG12 Pro Tire Chains Review

Today we are going to review Thule tire chains part number TH01594255. This is one of Thules top of the line chains. This is their XG12. With this part number you get two chains and you have also a repair link. And you get plastic pieces that go on the chain itself to protect the rim, of course instructions, a mat to kneel on and some plastic gloves. A few features of these chains are a patented self-centering and self-tensioning system that makes it for easy, really quick installation and a very good fit. These chains also have a feature of D-shaped links to increase traction and also have double steel plates as well to dig in for superior grip into the ice. 0:39

Alright, next we will go ahead and show you how they are installed. It is very easy. First off, take the one end of the chain. In this case, we are taking the one end with just the little red link. We are just going to run it behind the tire. Grab the one yellow end and kind of pull it up behind the tire a little bit and then make your connection. Next you want to go ahead and take the chains and pull them out to the front of the tire. Then we will take our red link and hook it to this res hook here that is next to the Thule adjuster. Then take the chain and shift it towards the center of the vehicle. And then you want your little bars right here in the center of the tire. Go on and pull the rest of the chain around. And when you are doing this in the snow, it is easier if you can to dig out around the tire so it makes it easier to grip around as close to the bottom as possible. Take the cable, put it through this buckle and then just pull it on through hand tight. Then you just take the cord from the adjuster and pull it down tight. 1:38

OK, once you have your chains installed, it is always a good idea to do a test fit by the way, before you actually need them. And if a part of the chain hits the wheel, what you can do is use the included protection pieces here. They fit in like so. And put the cap on them. And they just press into place and that is it. Within 30 seconds we got our chain on and we are ready to drive. With our chains on, let us go ahead and take them out for a test drive in the snow and see how they perform. With that, that will finish our review of XG12 Pro tire chains, part number TH01594255.

Review from a similar Thule XG12 Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains

I am really pleased with this purchase. I recently put them on in the midst of a nice snow shower and it took less than 5 minutes. The fact that they self correct as you drive means you don't have to have them perfectly centered to start with. The links are a lot smaller that I expected, so they are easy to handle. I have learned that as the roads get better to leave them off because you definitely don't want to use them on pavement, as the vehicle will shake like crazy. You also don't want to go more than about 20 mph with them on. 116104

It is going to dump 10 inches of snow with some ice on us tomorrow and I am looking forward to chaining up. These chains install so easily. I was very impressed. I put on a set and watched my wife install the other set. No problem. As soon as you drive off, they center and tighten themselves perfectly. I was amazed. Given the quality of workmanship apparent in this product, I am confident they will perform above my expectations. Do not waste your time with cheap import chains. Buy these and be very satisfied. 6426

Review from a similar Thule XG12 Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains

After receiving these, I put them on one tire in good weather. My 2012 Ram with 265/70 17 was setting in a gravel driveway. I had the chain on in about two minutes. I have no idea when these will be needed but when the time comes I certainly won't hesitate putting them on. When I drove truck, I hated getting out and chaining up. Nice to be retired. Even nicer not worrying about having to chain up. And if I may, it's nice NOT to see....made in China. Way to go Italy! 59288

Have not had a chance to use it in snow yet. Did a trial run in garage and setup was easy compared to regular chains. No more driving back and forth - self tensioning pulled it all together as soon as car started to move. Parts look good quality. Pretty much as expected from Thule. 59712

  • Choosing Correct Snow Tire Chains for 235/55-18 Tires on a Lexus 400H
  • The clearance that appears on the product pages for tire chains refers to how far the chain rises above the tire. For example, with Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, # TH01594245, when installed the chain would stick up 12 millimeters from the tire. Anything less than 37mm is considered a Class S. You will need to check the tire size on your Lexus 400H to see if the # TH01594245 chains will fit your Lexus. In order to determine if tire chains can be used and if there are any restrictions...

  • The Glacier Tire Chains, # PWPLC1142, are listed as a fit for a 2005 Honda Odyssey with 235/65R16 tires. However, you will want to check a couple of things first before installing any chains. Start by turning the wheels to either all the way right or all the way left. Then measure the distance from the inside of the sidewall of the tire to the nearest part of the van on both sides. This is clearance that you cannot exceed with chains. You will also need to check the owners manual...

This chain kit is easy to install, as you can see in the product description video I will link you to. • Local Regulations Regarding Tire Chain Usage
  • Laws regarding the use of tire chains vary greatly from state to state, and even from area to area within a particular state. If road conditions warrant it, many states will use highway signage stating that any vehicle that passes that particular point must be equipped with tire chains. I would recommend contacting the state DOT or State Police in the area in question for more specific information. • The Glacier Square-Link Snow Tire Chains, # PWPLC1142, are compatible for use on vehicles that require a Class S or smaller tire chain, like your 2007 Honda Odyssey. Class S refers to limited clearance tire chains that measure 15mm or less at the side walls and 37mm or less across the tread of the tire they are designed to fit. Because your vehicle has limited wheel well and front suspension clearance you will want to make sure these chains are as tight as possible when installed on...

  • You would want to have snow tire chains on all the powered drive wheels of your 2006 Lexus RX330, but you also want to follow the guidelines of the vehicle manufacturer. Having the chains on the front will be beneficial since the front axle is a powered drive axle. Also with chains on the front wheels, there is an increase in steering stability. Your Lexus should have a 225/65-17 size tire. For tire chains for your Lexus, I would recommend the Thule Tire Chains, part # TH01594245. Installation...
