The multipurpose child carrier is specifically designed for use in several sports - it has a low center of gravity for stability and a stylish, raked-back design that leaves lots of room behind the carrier for a runner's kick stride. The bike hitch and safety equipment allow you to quickly and easily hook up the child carrier to your bicycle for a trip. The bike hitch arm is inserted into a VersaWing bracket on your child carrier. It snaps into the bracket in seconds. This hitch arm is then connected to your bike using the ezHitch system. A longer, quick-release wheel skewer in this kit replaces your rear wheel's quick-release skewer so that you can attach a hitch cup to your bike's rear axle.
Once you have installed the skewer and hitch cup, they can be left on your bike for use with or without the carrier. If you have a solid bike axle, simply remove the existing axle nut and then install the hitch cup. Reinstall the nut to secure the hitch on your bike and you're ready to ride.
After the hitch cup is mounted on your bike, the ball at the end of the hitch arm slides inside the hitch cup and is secured to it with a locking pin and safety strap.
The ball-and-socket design of this bike hitch makes a more flexible connection between your bike and the carrier than other bicycle hitches. This means that as your bike leans into corners, the carrier stays more upright because the bike and the trailer act independently, preventing twisting of the hitch bar. Using this hitch system stabilizes your bicycle trailer and helps to prevent the trailer from pulling or pushing on your bike as you turn, so you have a smoother ride.
This carrier is designed with your children's safety in mind. A second safety strap with a pin inserts into the VersaWing to form another connection between the other end of the hitch arm and the bike trailer. The carrier's suspension provides a smooth ride. Powder coated leaf springs are mounted on the outside of the carrier just above the rear wheels. The suspension's comfort level and shock absorption can be adjusted according to the weight of your passengers, providing a consistently comfortable ride as your children grow. When you're carrying two children, you can adjust each side of the suspension system to match the weight of each child, thereby customizing the suspension so that both kids ride comfortably. You can modify the suspension by loosening the knob on the clamp around the leaf springs and then moving the clamp to the appropriate weight setting for your passengers and cargo. Once you have selected your setting, tighten the knob and you are ready to go.
Unlike other child carriers that have a straight seatback, the Chariot's seatback has a recessed shelf so that your children's safety helmets don't get pushed down over their foreheads and eyes as you travel. Additional mesh side vents can be opened or closed, as needed, in warm or cool weather, and a mesh upper seatback provides ventilation for warm days. Today, we have one Of Chariots Child Transport Systems, the Cougar 2 with the Bicycle Trailer System, part number CH919503. There are three roofs on the Cougar 2. Theres a clear rain shield that protects your child from rain and moisture. It attaches to the screen with a hook and loop system. It can be rolled up out of the way and stored at the top of the carrier. There are elastic loops at the back so you can secure it when youre not using it.
The next layer is the screen layer. Whenever you have the Cougar setup for a bicycle trailer, you need to use the screen layer to help keep rocks and debris that are kicked up from your bicycle tire from hitting the kids inside. Also on the front is glow-in-the-dark material to help with visibility at night. Instead of using a hook and loop system like other carriers, the front edge is secured with a molded plastic clip. This is a much quieter system so if your child falls asleep, hopefully, you wont wake him up.
It too can be rolled up out of the way when not in use. Finally, theres the sun awning. Sun awning material over the top and a tinted visor to help shade your kids from the sun and it too can be folded up and rolled out of the way. Again, theres a set of elastic loops up at the top to secure it at the top of the carrier. Inside are two five-point harnesses for securing your children.
You can also remove one and reposition one to the center if youre only carrying one child. Theres a mesh back that allows plenty of air flow inside the cabin and theres also a little shelf built-in to allow room for helmets so that theyre not pushed down onto the childs face. Theres a padded seat back and a removable and washable padded seat bottom. There are three hook and loop strips that secure it so all you have to do is to pull the pad out, and you can wash it and reinstall it back on the hook and loop strips. On both sides of the carrier are mesh pockets for storing toys and snacks as well as an adjustable window vent so that you can control how much air is going in and out of the Chariot.
Included with the bicycle trailer kit are a pair of reflectors so you can install them on the wheel again to help with visibility. The Chariot trailers utilize a 20-inch spoke wheel with a quick release system so you can quickly and easily pop the wheel off. It also features an adjustable leaf spring style suspension system. There are four different weight ranges that you can set the carrier to to adjust the ride for your childs comfort. On the back, theres plenty of storage space. Theres a large cargo bag with elastic-fit top that provides plenty of storage for toys, snacks, and even diaper bags. The elastic top fits snugly around the aluminum frame. This bag can be lowered down for more space and easier access or it can be folded up against the carrier if you need some more space for jogging. There are two cam levers on either side that will secure it in either the up position or in the down position. Theres also a large mesh storage bag for additional storage space. Theres a stitch material pocket that you can use to store things like your cellphone, wallet or keys so that theyre secured, but theyre also handy. Included with the bicycle trailer kit is a hitch system for attaching the trailer to the back of your bike. Youll get a replacement skewer and a hitch that you leave attached to your bicycle. The hitch arm slides into Chariots Hub System. There's just a push button detent that secures it into place and theres also an extra safety pin that you can use at the rear. This will make sure that it does not come out of the hub. Up at the front, the ball will slip into the hitch thats mounted on your bicycle. You'll then use this pin to lock it in and wrap the rubber strap around to hold the pin in place. Now the ball cant come out of the hitch. Theres also a security strap that youll put around your bike, clip back to the trailer so should the hitch fail, youll still have the trailer secured to your bike. In addition to the hitch system and the reflector for your wheels, theres also a bright orange flag to help with visibility for the trailer. Also included is a red reflector for the rear that you can attach to one of the grommets on the cargo bag. The Cougar 2 with the bicycle trailer kit will quickly and easily break down so you can fold it up for travel or storage. Pull the safety flag out and break it down to its two pieces. Well fold our cargo bag up and lock it back into position with the cam levers. And well go to the front, remove our safety pin, and then remove the trailer hitch arm. Finally, well remove the wheels, pull the red knob on the inside of the frame and then you can fold the whole system down flat. This system is also available in a purple, silver, and gray color scheme part number CH918503 and a red, silver and gray scheme part number CH917503. The Cougar 2 is compatible with all five of the function systems: The stroller, the jogger, the hiking carrier, the bicycle trailer, and their cross country ski carrier.
