Swagman Spare Tire Bike Racks - S64920

Already towing a trailer? If your vehicle has a rear-mounted spare tire, it's not a problem with this spare-tire mounted bike rack. The backing plate is designed to be as versatile as possible, allowing you to take ALL of your toys with you!

This reliable two-bike carrier is constructed of steel and suited for extreme performance. Cushioned cradles rotate to keep wheels level to the ground. Additionally, the cradles help provide a scratch-free ride for your bikes by using thick kraton vinyl cushioning with large grooves for the bike frame cables. The thick grooves also help prevent the bikes from rocking back and forth during transit. This carrier accommodates bikes with up to a 2" frame, and the locking knob allows for a quick unload. Designed for vehicles with a rear-mounted spare tire, this rack is available with a 45-degree tilt to center bikes when the spare tire is offset. Included is a 2-1/2" deep backing plate and retention strap for additional support.

Features:

  • Heavy-duty steel design carries up to 2 bikes
  • Rack can be angled 45 degrees and cradles rotated to center bikes when the spare tire is not centered on the back of the vehicle
  • Cradles secure bikes to the rack using thick, kraton vinyl cushioning and steel plates
    • Deep, flexible grooves help prevent cables from scratching frames
    • Cushioning helps keep bikes from swaying front to back
  • Cradles rotate left to right to accommodate many alternative and women's frames
    • Keeps wheels level to improve ground clearance
  • Locking knob secures bikes to the rack
  • Designed for vehicles with a rear-mounted spare tire
  • Fits Honda CR-Vs, and 2005 and earlier Toyota Rav 4
  • For 2006 and newer Toyota Rav 4, a special backing plate is needed (P960)

I was forced to return this Swagman bike rack because it was so poorly fabricated that I could not install it on my Jeep Liberty. The welded together parts were not squarely mounted and the T-handled screw could not draw the upright tube against the tire leaving a one inch gap at the top of the tire. If I mounted the bracket upside down, the gap showed up at the bottom of the tire. The T-handle and screw were not square and the flat part of the T-handle approached the upright tube at an angle, not parallel, and would not have allowed the tube to be clamped against the tire securely. I really wanted to try this bike rack because it allows you to adjust the angle of the top tube bracket letting the bike ride more level but it was not to be. I ended up getting the Thule Spare Me and had it installed and the bike mounted within 30 minutes of unpacking.17176

Id love to see a reply to this review from the manufacturer or eTrailer. I can imagine how frustrating it would be to spend good $$ and then have the item be crappy necessitating a return. Was this highly unusual? How did the companys handle the situation? Is the customer satisfied?

We want to make sure our customers are happy with their purchases and we will always do what we can. We work closely with our manufacturers to make sure our customers are taken care of should something be amiss. With the P.H., he ended up ordering a different bike rack and returning the unit that didn't fit his car like it should have. The bolt was indeed bent or misshaped which isn't typical for all Swagman racks and it was a cause of the installation and fit issues. I've sent P.H. an email, so he can come back and let us know if he was satisfied when all was said and done. Our ultimate goal is making sure we help our customers find the right rack the first time and offer the best support we can in regards to installation and use. When a product is truly damaged or defective, we want to make it right.

Ive got this product have loved it. THe main thing you have to know before purchasing it is whether or not it fits your vehicle. It seems to work best with CRVs and Rav4s.

The Swagman bike rack is everything it is advertised to be. It fits very well on my Honda CRV. The 45 degree orientation option allows the bikes to ride squarly on the back of the car. Also, 2 bikes fit very comfortably on the rack. I previously had a "strap on" carrier where the bikes fit much closer than on the Swagman. This bike rack is obviuosly well designed. Additionally, I had purchased a different brand from e-trailer. There was some implication in the information on it that it could be mounted at a 45 degree angle. But the instructions said it could not be mounted that way. E-trailer was very professional in handling the return of it and repurchase of the Swagman. It's refreshing to deal with a company that cares about their customers. 76181

  • To determine if the Swagman Spare Tire Mount 2 Bike Rack, # S64920, or any of the spare tire mount bike racks will fit your 2011 Jeep Wrangler, you will need to take some measurements. The measurement you need to make is from the face of where the spare tire attaches out to the farthest out part of the tire. If it is less than 2-1/2 inches, the bike rack will fit. • As you have found, a roof mounted bike rack or trunk mounted bike rack is not going to have the carrying capacity for a 57 pound bike. But I do have a solution of how you can transport the bike with your 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara. To do so, you will need to install a class III trailer hitch like # 87007. With this hitch installed you could then use one of 2 bike rack. First is the Yakima Holdup 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Rack, # Y02433. This rack has a 120 pound capacity or 60 pounds per bik
