The first step in installing this bicycle rack is to go ahead and disconnect the wheel mount as it comes packaged already installed on the rack. We will take the wheel mount and put it behind the spare tire and then we will re-install the rack. The next step is to take off the spare tire cover if you have one, then the spare tire itself. Next we can slide on our adapter plate, it has a variety of different holes in it for different makes and models of vehicles. With the spare and the mount installed we can put our rack on using its locking bolt. The cradles are mounted loose so you can adjust them for the different tilts of the top tube on your bike. We will leave them level for now and we will install a couple of bikes to show how they fit. The cradles are loosely set on the rack, we will set the bike on there to get the tilt we want. That is how a standard frame bicycle will work on this rack. Now we will show you an alternative frame bicycle.
We will do the same thing, we will test fit it and set the cradle where we want it, and tighten it down. As you can see an alternative fame bike will work just fine on this rack with a simple adjustment. Now we will go to one final detail of this installation. What we need to do next is install the stabilizing strap that catches the top edge of the door, and goes down to the bike rack through the buckle to give it additional support. We will show you a few of the features of the cradle here on this rack. First off as you can see, you can offset the cradle to match or fit the top tube of the bike. What is also nice is that this rack comes with caps to go over the bolts so you do not scratch up your frame. Lastly, you have a nice rubber edge going all the way through which has grooves that allow your cables to fit and not rub up against the frame. Also, the security of this rack is really good too. You have one simple key for two functions. One locks this cradle in place so you cannot take this bike or the ones behind it off. Also to take the whole rack off, there is a locking knob too, one key does both. With the knob locked, you cannot unscrew it or clamp it down. With it unlocked, you can clamp it down or loosen it up. I ordered this for my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. However, I will be exchanging it for another product as the hole in the stock Rubicon rims is not large enough. This product requires the inner hole to be at least 2". The Jeep Rubicon's is 1/16" too small. For other vehicles, be sure you remove the plastic logo cap and measure inside. I did not pop out the cap and upon installation I discovered an inner lip. Hope this helps others! I gave this a "Good" rating as I needed to rate to submit. This product seemed to be well built and I was interested in the locking ability of the bikes.9847

Stronger than a Fed-X truck This is a great unit that fit great and mounted easily on my Tracker. I had used it about two years when a delivery truck backed into it. It bent the rack a little to the right, which was straightened with a come-a-long, but put a nice deep dent in the truck. Still works great; this is one heavy duty unit. I especially like how everything can be locked on and how easy it is to put on and take off the car. 4118

Excellent delivery service - much faster than I expected. We had some nice weather yesterday so I went outside and installed the bike rack on my '02 Honda CR-V with no major problems. It looks like it will be a tight fit for three bikes though. I wish the mounting arm for the bikes was about an inch longer. We put two of our bikes on it, and drove a few miles around our area over some bumpy roads for a little test drive. When we got home, it was just as tight as when we left. Make sure you tie the front wheels of the bike to the frame to keep them from moving around. After you take the rack off, you can place it in the storage area of your car easily. We will be using it a lot this summer.32871

I'm a single, 63 year old woman who has decided to get back into biking. I bought a beach cruiser this summer and it is a real pain getting the bike into the back of my 2002 RAV 4 by myself. I did a lot of research to see which rack would work best with my car and emailed etrailer.com with some questions. I received an instant reply saying it would be best for me to get the Sport Rack 3 Bike Carrier Spare Tire Mount Bike Rack and a Swagman Easy Out Women's Alternative Frame Bike Adaptor so I could carry my woman's bike easier. I actually got two of them so I could carry my friends' bikes also. It came quickly in the mail. A male friend helped me take off the spare tire and install the rack. It was very easy to install-especially since we had watched the video. I practiced putting my bike on it and locking it and taking it off. I know it will be very easy to use. I especially like the idea that I can lock the rack onto my spare tire while I am biking. I didn't want to have to take the entire rack off while I was biking. Good product! Simple and solid. Straightforward installation. Shipped out super fast! One tip for Jeep liberty wheels; the square sleeve mount that slides through the center of the spare tire is slightly larger than the center opening for the aluminum wheels. Solution; use a file to make v shaped slots (about 1/8" deep) allowing enough room for the sleeve. Since it is behind the center cap it won't be noticeable if you later mount the spare wheel for full time use.2918

CAREFUL!!!! won't work!!! If you have a big wheel, the mount won't work, it's too short to fit.. and there is no extension bar to have it stick out more.. you are stuck with taking the tire off to get it to work.2523
The rack measures 4-1/4 inches from the backing plate to the upright bar of the rack. If you measure through the pilot hole on the wheel to the mount, and it takes more than 4-1/4 inches to get past the tire, then the rack will not work.

Excellent Product!! I've owned mine for nearly a year and have had zero problems. It perfect for my FJ Cruiser. The clamps adjust for bikes with sloped top tubes. Install and removal takes minutes so you don't have to drive around with the rack when you get home. The rack stores easily in the garage or your trunk. Although I don't have this problem, this rack also appears to be the best choice for off-center rear tires. I've seen the competitor Thule Spare Me 2 on several vehicles, damaged by stresses using its off-center mount feature. Good luck on your choice - I have had it on mine!1491

On of a kind bike rack. After I watched the video for rack installation on line, then I give it a try. Wow! It really is a clever design and well solid material, I've never seen and tried a product like this on market before. This rack is super easy to install, remove and in compact size, light weight too. I can even carry it in my trunk without taking much space, slip it out and install in only couple minutes. It is safe and stable as well, and the price is right. I really love it.1122

nice rack but the mounting bracket and rack should be longer to accommodate an suv tire. i mounted mine on a suzuki xl7 and it barely fit. these are 16 inch tires on a small SUV so i can't imagine it working properly on a larger car. everything else seems strong and well made.19131

Great value, great features Anyone looking for a spare-mounted bike rack would be wise to look into this one. I compared it with models with arms that wrap over the top of the tire, and models that strap on and hang down from the roof, and found this to be much more stable and more reassuring. I also looked at installing a square hitch and buying a hitch-mounted rack, but the price differential -- ~$100 for this wheel-mounted model vs. ~$350 for a self-installed hitch and hitch rack -- made this a no-brainer. I spent about $100, waited three days for shipping and took about 20 minutes to install the rack -- and haven't had any issues at all.2221

Ordered online and received my bike rack in a few days. Was able to track it and it came a day ahead of schedule. Went on my car very easily, a 2002 Toyota RAV4. I am very pleased with the SportRack 3 Bike Carrier. We use the Mountain bike size bikes and agree with other users that we need the 3 Bike rack to carry two bikes. Other than that, attaching the rack was easy and the only issue we found was the bracket used to attached the rack to the rear tire mount allowed only one angle and it was not the one recommended in the instructions; although, it works fine and allows the bikes to be more centered behind the 2003 Honda CRV.67500

This product was as easy to install as the video demonstrates. I liked how your site had the video demonstration first because you could see how it installs before you buy it and it took a lot of the guessing out of the assembly. I like this model because it allows you to put three bikes on it. The two or four bike models didn't meet our needs. This way here my daughter can bring a friend with us with no problem. I'm a single parent so I really couldn't see myself lifting our bikes on top of a roof rack model. With the SportRack 3, I simply lift, load and lock. The only thing that would make this model absolutely perfect is to be able to lock all three bikes in place instead of just the first one. The prices were reasonable The website was very informative. I liked how there were a variety of styles to compare and choose from. The delivery was quick and efficient and the customer service rep was extremely polite, courteous and helpful. I would definitely recommend this site. to any one looking to purchase 32699

I have a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara and after doing ALOT of research on what type of bike carrier would be good for this vehicle I finally purchased the SportRack 3 spare tire mount rack. The rack fits perfectly on the rear spare tire. I can even leave the mounting bracket on the spare with the rear cover on. Also etrailer was awesome at getting my product to me quickly. I choose the standard shipping because it was free for the amount of my total purchase. When I received the email regarding my shipment going out they also notified me that they had changed it to express shipping. I acutally ended up receiving my carrier much sooner then anticipated.
