Today on a 2012 Dodge Journey, were going to do a test fit of the Yakima Roof Rack System. Well be using a Yakima RailGrab Towers and the 48-inch slide crossbars part numbers Y00408, Y00138.Ok, were gonna start off our install with our roof rack already assembled according to instructions. Well start off by placing the first crossbar onto to our factory roof rack then well go ahead and make sure theyre square with the factory roof rack. To make sure theyre square, were gonna measure from the edge thats on the factory roof rack to the leading edge of the railgrab. For this test fit, were gonna use a measurement of 10 inches. Ok, well take a second and make sure that the railgrab is tight against the factory roof rack and that the crossbar is even on both sides.Alright, well go ahead and repeat the same process for our second crossbar.
However, were gonna measure from the center of the first one to the center of the second one to square them both up. In this case, well be using a measurement of 27 inches.Now we go ahead and tighten the Yakima Roof Rack to the factory roof rack. Now, there are two screws inside the railgrab. Theres a silver one that tightens the railgrab to the crossbar and theres a black screw that tightens the railgrab to the factory roof rack. Now, its a good idea to tighten the black screw first because it will move around as you tighten it down.And those are the steps to install our Yakima Roof Rack.
Now well give you one more measurement of the added height to the factory roof rack. And that measurement will be 2 inches.And with that, thatll will finish it with our test fit of the Yakima Roof Rack System on our 2012 Dodge Journey.

Attached are a few pictures of the Yakima 00138 Rack System Towers for my 2011 GMC Terrain. UPS delivered it this afternoon and it was on the Terrain within one hour. Easy assembly and rock solid on the Terrain factory installed side rails. The Yakima Crossbars are spaced 29 1/2 " apart. I am very pleased with the quality of components and I will buy Yakima products again.6127

I ordered the Yakima RailGrab Kit with 48" round bars and the Gunwale Canoe Carrier Brackets on the advice of friends who have used a Yakima rack for years. I want to carry a canoe on my Subaru Forester, equipped with factory flush mounted rack, but needed something wider to hold my canoe, which is 38.5" at its center. This system is just the thing. It installs easily and the towers fit my the contours of my factory siderails perfectly. The Gunwale Brackets adjust with a twist-knob to snug up to the canoe for a secure fit. Once they're adjusted to the correct width, loading the canoe is easy-ever-after. Note: the endcaps are included in the RailGrab package, as are two cam straps, so you don't need to buy these. At $300 for everything, etrailer has a great price, and the order was on my porch in less than a week. Emails to customer service were answered promptly, and a follow-up email to ask about my experience prompted me to write this very enthusiastic review. Thanks!48761
