Load up for a weekend adventure with this economical, roof-mounted Yakima RocketBox Pro cargo box. This box offers 12 cubic feet of exterior storage space for your luggage, sports equipment or other gear.
This cargo carrier installs in minutes with an easy-to-use clamp system. The clamps slide along tracks inside the box to accommodate your vehicle's crossbar spread. The jaws tighten onto your crossbars with hand knobs and are secured in place with the turn of a dial.
This box interferes less with your rear hatch than standard boxes. The rear mounting clamps can be positioned close to the rear of the box, enabling you to mount the box toward the front of your vehicle.
To ensure the security of your gear, the cargo box has two keyed locks - one per side - with Yakima Same Key System (SKS) lock cores. These lock cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima locks keyed alike. Large push buttons on the locking mechanisms make it easy to lock and unlock the box.
The cargo box lid opens from either the driver's side or the passenger's side for maximum accessibility and convenience.
The interior of the cargo box includes four anchor points so that you can tie down your gear. The anchor points are built into the sliding mounting clamps that attach to your roof-rack crossbars, allowing you to reposition them to accommodate your cargo.

Today well be reviewing the Yakima RocketBox Pro12 Rooftop Cargo Box, part number y07191. Now with the RocketBox already assembled, well start up our review by installing it onto the vehicle. To assist us in our review today, we will be using the HitchMate Adjustable Tire Step, part number he4040. Set the RocketBox onto the vehicles cross bars and open up the lid. Well first loosen up the black circle knob on the inside of the lid to slide and adjust the arms to fit on the cross bars. This also allows you to position the rear clamps so that the box sits far enough up that it wont interfere with your hatch.
Once weve spaced out the brackets on the underside of the RocketBox, well unscrew the red T-handle to loosen up the jaws. Well do this for all four of the red handles and all four of the black knobs to loosen up the jaws to fit the jaws around the cross bars. Well then first tighten on the black knob to secure the jaws in position, and then turn the red T-handle to tighten down the jaws to secure the carrier to the vehicle. This economically priced roof-mounted cargo box provides storage for your gear. Its short and wide design is weather safe and perfect for vehicles with short roof lines.
The box opens from either side to allow you to access cargo from either side of the vehicle. It used key locks with Yakimas same key system course on both sides of the box, and the SKS course can be changed out to make all of your Yakima locks key alike. - It sounds like the lid is not coming down all of the way or it is uneven. The lids on cargo boxes like # Y07191 are solid but flexible so one side may be slightly ajar even if it looks closed. The box will not lock unless the lid is closed properly. The lid has to latch all the way in 3 places (per side) to close correctly.
