An affordable alternative to the Yakima SteelHead, the CopperHead is a no-frills, fork-mount bike rack with a new steel, lockable skewer and a wide range of tire fits. Roof-mounted carrier can be attached over either square or round crossbars.

Specs:
If your bike carrier budget is somewhere in the ballpark of a nice pair of jeans, Yakima offers the affordable CopperHead fork mount for roof racks.
Your bike fork attaches quickly to the CopperHead fork mount with an ergonomic, 9-mm stainless steel skewer, and the aerodynamic styling of the block provides extra stability. Bike forks without safety tabs should not be used with CopperHead. Safety tabs are small bulbs at the end of your fork, designed to hold the quick-release lever in place should the nut come loose.
The rear wheel of your bike is held firmly in place by a ratcheting strap. The ratcheting strap slides along the wheel tray to perfectly position for a variety of bike lengths.
A steel quick-release lever, identical to the skewer included with the Yakima Viper, makes installing and removing the skewer effortless, and a brass dial on the skewer makes tightening and loosening simple. CopperHead is not recommended for bikes with nutted front wheels, triple clamp forks, forks with dropout spacing - other than 100 mm - or disc brakes.
Installation of the CopperHead carrier is a matter of turning a few hex bolts, which reside inside the hard plastic fork block. The fork block includes a cap, held in place by the Same Key System-lockable skewer, that removes to reveal the hex bolts. Loosen the hex bolts and clamp the CopperHead to your crossbars, then tighten, and away you go. Once the skewer is locked, the carrier is locked to the crossbars.
For additional security, The wheel tray can be locked to your crossbars by replacing the hand knob (hex key) on the bottom of the mounting bracket with a Yakima Accessory Lock Housing (Y07220), which requires purchase of an additional SKS Core.
The CopperHead is compatible with both round and square roof-rack crossbars, so the carrier is likely to fit your aftermarket roof-rack system without a problem. However, it is not recommended that you mount CopperHead on a factory roof-rack system.
