This convenient rack carries up to two bikes and provides clearance for a spare tire. Its rugged steel construction displays lasting toughness and ultimate support for bikes. The U-bolts are designed to clamp around a 4" to 4-1/2" continuous welded square bumper.

Today were going to review part number S80500. This is the Swagman Around the Spare Bike Rack. This bike rack is designed to fit on your RV when you have a spare tire on the back, and your RV does not have a hitch to be able to fit a hitch bike rack. So what you can do to still carry the bikes on your RV is you can install this bike rack. Basically what you would do is these U bolts would install around your square bumper on your RV. your spare tire would be located right here and youll still have availability to hang two bikes onto this bike rack.
Now just some measurements, these U bolts will accept up to anywhere from a 4 inch to a 4.5 inch wide continuous welded steel square bumper. You will not want to use this on an aluminum or a spot welded bumper. It would not be able to hold the weight of the bikes. This will also give you a clearance of 12 inches from the bumper to the upright bar. Twelve inches of clearance, so it will be able to fit around a spare tire that has a width of 12 inches or less.
With it installed and what you can do, is you would take the bikes and the horizontal bar of the bike that goes across from the seat post to the handle bar post, you would just set those up here on these two hanging bars. Basically these J hooks open up, like that, take your bike, set it up on here, the horizontal bar is right here, take the J hook, lift it up around the bar. Now the J hook does have a rubber coating you can see here on the top of it, and then you would just tighten this knob down and as you do that it would snug the horizontal bar of your bike down to this bar. It might be hard to see, but also on the top, both of these bars have a cushioned padding which will help protect any damage or scratching to your bike frame, also the rubber coating on the J hook will prevent any of that damage. So once you get those tightened down you can put your outside bike on here, if you want to carry two of them.
Now this bike rack does have a natural weight capacity of 70 pounds, which is about two 35 pound bikes. Once you get those tightened down, that does include these two nylon straps which will be used as tie-down straps. Basically you just take these straps once your bikes are installed in there and just run this around your bikes and put it back through the connector, and you can just pull it tight, as you want. Push down on this, and you can release it. It comes with two of them.
Now this bike rack is a rugged steel construction which is very tough, and it does have a good support for the weight of the bikes. It does come with a powder coated finish which will guard against any rust or corrosion. Now the other nice feature on this, is you might be thinking, Well once these are installed, and the spare tire is right here, what if I need to access my spare tire The easiest way to do this is just remove your bikes, and right here at the bottom there are two pins and clips which you can just pull right out. The others one is there. Just lift those bars out, and youll have full access to your spare tire. Once you put your spare tire back, just put the bars in, put the pin and clips back in, and youre ready to go to haul two more bikes. Instructions, were easy to follow, required simple tools, to install, fit and looks great. Just used it on our first camping trip, and it worked great. My only problem, was the locking knobs for the U clamps, were a little stiff to operate. I'm sure my arthritis, in my hands doesn't help. Anyway , a very nice bike rack!!!!! Thank You! P.S. Bike rack is very well built. The only thing I don't like about the bike rack is the knobs used to tighten the bikes down. They are very hard to turn and for an older person this could be difficult. Other than that it's a well built item. Shipping was fast and item was not damaged.80050

Product was easy to put together, but the J-hooks were too small for our bikes. I had difficulty getting them over the bars to secure the bikes. In addition, my bike has 2 bars by the seat as part of the bikes design and the J-hook did not go over them at all, thus providing no anchor for the bike except for the straps which came with the rack. This prevents the excellent rating.79900

Just mounted this on my camper this past week-end. Installation was very easy and fast. Overall I am satisfied with the bike rack, but I am having to install longer hooks to hold my second bike on the rack. The tubing the bike is made of is larger than what the hooks that come with the rack will accept. This will be easily done by bending a piece of all thread rod and then cutting to length. The service at etrailer was exceptional and I will be ordering product from them again in the future.50120

Installed easily but did have to add both washers so that the nuts would not scrape in the brackets and double nutted them so that they would not work loose via vibration. Other issue is that had to remove the end caps to allow more upward travel of hooks to go over my bike frame.45113

this picture and the instructions show mounting the brackets in a vertical position, so the upper frame can be removed, out of the way of the spare tire. to get the brackets to go beside my tire, I had to angle them, (as the picture on the box shows). that angle requires removing the upper cross bar to pull the upper frame out. NOT as advertised. The clamp on top that hold the bikes on have a plastic knob that is really hard to turn to tighten the clamps, do to a nylon friction ring in the nut. the caps nuts included are total crap. but it does hold the bikes on the bumper. 44235

Better quality than I expected. Heavy gauge. Sturdy with two full size bikes attached. I had to adapt the U clamps slightly, but I know they are trying to fit all applications and cannot forsee every situation. The lock nuts in the screw knobs offer a lot of resistance. However I know this is to be a safety feature. Knob size could be larger and easier to hold.17397
