The Swagman Trailhead hitch-mounted bike rack carries four bikes on dual arms that provide superior stability during transport. The dual arms easily fold down for storage - just pull a pin - and each arm features an integrated reflector at its tip.
The Trailhead has anti-sway cradles that rotate and slide along the dual arms to perfectly position your specific bicycles, reducing the need for a bike adapter bar. The cradles include durable rubber straps to hold your bikes firmly in place on the rack. Because the cradles secure each bike at three places (twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or down tube), rocking back and forth is virtually eliminated, preventing bike-to-bike contact.
Trailhead tilts forward, away from your vehicle, when you remove a pin at the base. This allows easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.
Trailhead comes with an anti-rattle, threaded hitch pin and clip to secure the rack to your trailer hitch and eliminate rattle during transport. To lock your rack to the hitch, replace the pin and clip with Swagman's anti-rattle lock (S64029; sold separately).

Today we're going to review part number S63381 from Swagman. This is our trail head bicycle rack. We'll start off by covering some the features of this bike rack. Now this is a non-tilting design bike rack that carries four bicycles. Now this design can be used with motor homes and RV's. This bicycle rack has two arms to give stability to the bikes.
Now on one cradle you'll have two straps that'll go over the top tube. Now the arms of this bicycle rack do tilt down all the way for storage. The second cradle has a strap that goes over the top tube and the other strap goes around the seat tube. That one keeps the bike from swaying back and forth. Now this bike can load up a variety of different types of frames, however with some womens bikes or step through frames and some full suspension bikes you may need an adapter bar.
Also included is the anti-rattle, threaded pin and clip that secure the rack to the trailer hitch. This allows the rack to stay stable in the hitch so it won't move around. Then you can also replace with the anti-rattle lock, part number S64029, and lock your bike carrier to your vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and take the bicycle rack and install it in a hitch and see how it works. First off we'll go ahead and tighten down the anti-rattle bolt.
Then install the safety pin. As you can see here that the bike rack will not tilt out of the way so you won't have access to the back of the vehicle. At this point let's go ahead and load the bike and show you how the bike interacts with the cradles. First off we'll go ahead and remove the straps in the cradles we're going to use. We're going to load the bike on the very end of the rack to make things a little bit easier to see.
However, when you do load up the bikes make sure you start with the heaviest bikes going towards the front, or closest to the vehicle, and work your way out to the back. Now let's go ahead and take it for a test ride. We'll go ahead and move the bicycle rack to the correct closer to the vehicle and we'll see how ti rides. That'll finish it for our review of part number S63381 from Swagman, the trail head bicycle rack.
