Surco Ladder-Mounted Bike Rack

Surco's ladder-mounted bike rack attaches to the vertical supports of your RV's ladder instead of to its rungs so that it can fit a wider variety of applications. In addition, the rack arms have a unique, built-in pivot feature that lets you swing them away from the ladder. Now you can maintain complete access to your ladder - as long as no bikes are mounted at the time - with no need to remove the rack.

Surco Ladder-Mounted Bike Rack Swing Away

To pivot the arms of your rack to the side, simply remove the pull pins from the top brackets of each arm, swing the arms out and replace the pins to secure. Now you have full use of your van or motor home ladder. To use the rack, pivot the arms back and secure them in place in the same manner.

Surco Ladder-Mounted Bike Rack Clamps

The arms of the rack attach to the ladder supports with sturdy, secure clamps that hold the rack firmly in place, eliminating the bouncing and jostling that can occur with racks that simply hook onto your ladder. Just attach the arms, individually, to the 1-inch-diameter posts of your ladder, and you're good to go.

Wow this was a great fit and works great. The price was right and thanks to the mount being on step, the carrier is rock solid. Just a note, it says in the instructions to center the bike on the axle. Not correct wording - center the bike(s) on the frame next to the rear wheel and not the axle. Thank God for the picture!40627

This bike rack worked very well and kept the bikes from hitting each other and the RV. The only thing we had to do was use a couple bungee cords to strap one of the bikes to the rack. I was able to use 3 of the 4 rubber straps to hold the bikes on the rack. Overall, it is a great rack and worked great. We used this in conjunction with a platform rack in the hitch to haul 4 bikes to Florida.75907

Assembly was quick - directions suck a little - note: the arm with the "brand name sticker" goes on the left side as you look at the ladder. Works best if bike "seat bar" is placed in the right hand rest and the frame - (just above the derailer) is placed in the left hand rest. Bike tire when mounted almost blocks our (Freelance Class C) right turn signal - but not a real issue. Well designed because the arms and lock out of the way of accessing the ladder. Covered my ladder with black foam "pipe" insulation between the rungs firsts to prevent any scraping/noise from the bikes - worked well. Etrialer rocks too! Right parts, first time, very quick!! Would recommend both to anyone!74877

Installation was a snap. Hung our bikes on it easy enough, I was worried because mine is a beach Cruiser with huge handle bars, they fit with no problem. I have not actually used it for hauling, I do think it is over priced but well built. I do like the way it hangs on the vertical part of the ladder rather then the ladder rungs. As always, customer sevice is the greatest! 68987

I purchased this rack after spending considerable time on the phone with the eTrailer.com rep. She was very knowledgeable about all types of racks, including hitch and ladder racks. I might have gotten this rack for a few bucks cheaper on eBay, but the support from the rep more than makes up for that! The rack went on easily, although it was help to have a second pair of hands to hold the clamp during installation. The only problem I had was installing the two rack pieces in reverse. I wasn't aware until after I tried to pivot the rack off to the side that there was a definite left and right side. I don't think I saw anything about this in the instructions. But luckily, it was easy to remove and reinstall them on the correct sides. Our bikes (Trek) fit fine, although we had to remove my husband's water bottle cage, because it was installed on the vertical part of the frame where the bike rests on the rack. We reinstalled it on the diagonal part of the frame (as in product photo), where it doesn't interfere with the rack. We'll be heading out soon with our bikes on the rack and don't anticipate any problems. 56738

Expert Answers about Surco 2 Bike Carrier for Vans and RVs - Ladder Mount - SP501BR Do you have a question about this RV and Motorhome Bike Racks?

  • What Is the Width Between the Swing Arms on the Surco 2 Bike Ladder Mount Carrier # SP501BR
  • On the Surco 2 Bike Ladder Mount Carrier, part # SP501BR, the distance between the arms will be determined by the width of your ladder on your RV. This part is two separate arms that are attached individually to each side of the ladder. So you would need to measure the width of your ladder to determine the width between the swing arms. The width of the other RV ladder racks that I have that attach to one of the rungs of your ladder is listed below. Swagman RV and Motorhome 2 Bike Carrier,

  • Motor Home Bike Rack Recommendations for Two Manhattan Beach Cruiser Bikes
  • The first issue that you will run into when trying to carry your Manhattan beach cruisers on a motor home or trailer bike rack is the weight capacity. All of our motor home and trailer bike racks will only accommodate bikes that weight no more than 35 lbs each. I did some research on your bikes and it looks like most cruiser style bikes weigh between 40 and 60 lbs. If your bikes weight 35 lbs or less, then we may have a solution for you. The Surco 2 Bike Carrier, # SP501BR, can support two b

  • Towing Trailer and Carrying Bikes with Motorhome
  • The Surco Ladder Mounted Bike Rack, part # SP501BR includes one strap that would typically be passed through the bike frames, the front wheels and around the ladder, which would prevent the wheels from spinning and would do a pretty good job of keeping the bikes in place. Adding bungees and foam padding of some sort would probably be a good idea if you are wanting to prevent the bikes from being scratched. The Swagman S80600 would most likely interfere with a trailer, but it would depend on h

  • Is there a Bike Rack Available that Will Not Block the License Plate
  • That really depends on where the license plate is located. Since you were looking at the Surco bike rack, # SP501BR, I assume you have a van or RV that has a ladder with the license plate in close proximity. What I recommend is to use the bike rack you want to use (trailers and RVs can only be equipped with certain racks, see link) and relocate the license plate to an area of the vehicle, trailer, or RV that is more visible. For a license plate bracket, if you need one that has a light y

  • Preventing Bike Movement on the Topline RV Ladder Mount Bike Rack
  • Part of the problem might be that you are loading the bikes horizontally instead of vertically, Loading the bikes vertically will reduce or eliminate how much they overhang to the side of the 5th wheel. If little or no part of the bikes are sticking off to the side and susceptible to wind, they are less likely to move. Also, make sure the straps are as tight as you can get them. The tighter the straps are the less likely the bikes are to move. If possible, add another strap like # 753-2030-03

  • How Do the Bikes Secure to the Surco 2 Bike Carrier for Van and RV Ladders
  • On the Surco bike rack, # SP501BR, the bikes rest in the cradles and are strapped in with rubber straps. The bikes need to be mounted vertically. The down tube on the bike frame (below the seat) is where the bikes will mount to the cradles. You can click on the small pictures on the product page and then run your mouse cursor over them and they will zoom in. This should allow you to see them better.

  • Weight Capacity and Mounting Configuration of Surco Ladder Mount 2 Bike Rack Part # SP501BR
  • The Surco RV Ladder Mounted Bike Rack you referenced attaches to the uprights of the ladder, not the rungs. As long as your uprights have a round profile, the ladder bike rack will fit regardless of the profile of the rungs. I have edited a photo for you that shows this. As long as the ladder is not right at the edge of the 5th wheel, the fact that the ladder is on the drivers side should present no problem. The rack itself has a weight capacity of 75 lbs, which might work for you if you can

  • Will Bikes have to be Removed from Surco RV Ladder Mount Bike Rack to Open Rear Door on Camper
  • Most likely, yes, you would have to remove the bikes before opening the rear door on the camper. If the ladder is near the door the bikes are going to be wider than the ladder and could overhang the ladder on either side. If they are wide enough they could block part of the door. The best way to tell if there will be an issue is to measure the total height of the tallest bike, dived by 2, then measure horizontally from the center of the ladder over towards the door, half the height of the bi
