This OEM-style muffler has two separate, perforated cores that enhance airflow. Both cores run through three chambers that contain tuning gates, called "baffles," which help to cancel out sound waves and reduce exhaust noise.
MagnaFlow XL Turbo mufflers have a unique combination of two cores and three chambers that significantly reduce exhaust noise.
A. Two separate, perforated cores allow more airflow than a louvered, standard OEM muffler. Some of the exhaust disperses through these small perforations inside the muffler before reaching the chambers, helping to quiet the airflow.
B. and C. Three chambers (B) contain calibrated tuning gates, called "baffles" (C), that allow a portion of each sound wave in the exhaust to pass through. These tuned sound waves then bounce off the muffler's back wall and pass through the baffle again, moving in the opposite direction. Next, they collide with the sound waves that did not pass through the baffle. Because the two groups of sound waves are traveling in opposite directions, they cancel each other out, reducing exhaust noise.
The inlets and outlets are lap-joint welded to the muffler body for durable construction that eliminates distortion and cracking. All materials are made from 100-percent stainless steel with a satin finish, making this muffler corrosion resistant.
