Stromberg Carlson's universal RV ladder can be attached to an RV with either a contoured or straight rear wall. The rustproof aluminum ladder fixes securely to the RV for a safe, strong hold when you're climbing up and down it.
Note: The legs of the ladder can be trimmed for length with a hacksaw or tube cutter. When you are installing mounting brackets and support pegs, make certain that all screws are fastened to the RV's blocking or subframe on roof. If you are uncertain if your RV has backing installed, you should contact your RV manufacture to confirm. It is unsafe to use a ladder that is not connected to the RV’s backing or sub frame
Stromberg Carlson's RV ladder is truly universal. Its unique design allows you to attach it to flat or curved roofs and to straight or slanted rear walls. Its length can be customized, and all necessary parts are included for installation.
The ladder attaches to your motor home's roof with pivoting mounting brackets, allowing you to position the angle of the ladder so that it remains parallel to the back wall of the RV. This works great for RVs with roofs that are curved toward the back. If the roof is curved toward the sides of the RV, you can simply trim the inside leg of the vertical portion of the ladder that attaches to the roof. In doing so, you will eliminate the difference in the slope between the inside and outside arms of the ladder.
For an RV with a slanted or contoured rear wall, install the included hinges between the lower and upper sections of the ladder at the point where the wall is curved or angled. If your RV has a straight rear wall, just slide the lower ladder into the upper ladder and bolt the sections together with the provided hardware.
Set the length of the ladder by trimming the lower portion where it connects to the upper portion. Make sure that the bottom step of the ladder sits between 6 and 12 inches from the top of the bumper.
The included ladder support pegs, or stand-offs, attach between the first and second steps from the top and at about 8 to 10 inches below where the two sections of ladder connect. These supports provide additional strength and keep the ladder 5 inches away from the RV's rear wall.

We had a problem with the new buildout of our teenage boy's bedroom. I started looking at ladders and then the RV ladder idea happened. I had no doubts about this and knew it was going to be a big hit. I made a believer out of everyone and now it's the talk of the town. Thanks guys! 85838
Heartland Bighorn 3580 RL bought in June of 2008. Ladder failed in two places. I was able to adapt LA 401 ladder by using the old extensions which were a bit longer than the ones that came with the LA 401. I also used the full extension of the LA 401. To make it fit better I took two steps off of the old ladder and placed them about 10 inches apart on either side of the swivels. I also secured the bottom of the ladder to the frame of a hitch I previously had installed. There are always ways of working things out if you have a good product to work with. Included is a jpeg picture of completed project. 125406

Product arrived with simple directions and all the required parts. My application required placement on a round roof and I was able to cut the parts easily with a common hack saw. There was no issue. I even installed it on the side corner of a rear lounge trailer that had a huge picture window. Great lightweight product that does exactly what it is advertised to do.108907
Very happy with my new ladder. Haven't yet installed it but looks and feels sturdy. I'm particularly proud to have dealt again with etrailer and to have enjoyed their awesome service and personal touch that I have come to expect from them. From hitches to RV supplies I have never been let down, and always with a personal touch that tells me they do care about my business. That's rare these days and yet means so much. Thanks guys63974
We actually bought this ladder to use as an attic access ladder for our house. It mounted beautifully to the wall and now we can scramble from our laundry room up to the attic storage no problem. We do have and RV, and oddly it doesn't have a rear ladder, so we may be purchasing another one of these for the RV at some point. 63312
